We provide a guide for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/line-6-helix-stadium-firmware-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Line 6 Helix Stadium family here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From time to time Line 6 provides free firmware updates for Line 6 Helix devices that fix bugs, improv performance, and may add new amp models and effects. Follow the sections below to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><a href=\"#Getting-started\">Getting Started<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Back-up-presets-and-settings\">Back up presets and settings<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Update-Line-6-Helix-firmware\">Update Line 6 Helix firmware<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Helix-\/-HX-3.80-Firmware-Update\">Helix \/ HX 3.80 Firmware Update<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff5c7\"><strong>IMPORTANT!<\/strong> If your Helix device is not detected by the computer, try connecting to a different USB port or using another USB cable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Getting-started\">Getting started<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In this guide, we will show you how to upload new firmware to a Helix guitar processor. And, because the firmware update affects your Helix device\u2019s presets and settings, we\u2019ll also show you how to back them up before continuing with the update. Follow each of the sections below to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Back-up-presets-and-settings\">Back up presets and settings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>HX processors have an updateable <strong>firmware<\/strong> for adding features and optimizing the software. It may also be necessary to reload the firmware when it\u2019s not behaving normally. Before performing a firmware update, use the HX Edit app to back up your Presets. The new firmware will likely have updated Factory Presets, so you\u2019ll want to reset the Helix after updating it to make sure the updated presets are loaded correctly. If you plan on archiving your backups, consider creating sub-folders with unique titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-4-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<p><strong>.hlx =<\/strong> Preset<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<p><strong>.hls <\/strong>= Setlist<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<p><strong>.hlb <\/strong>= Bundle<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<p><strong>.hxb <\/strong>= Backup<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/line6.com\/software\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Download the HX Editor<\/a> for your operating system.<ul><li>From the drop-down menus, select <strong>HX Edit<\/strong>, choose your operating system, and click <strong>GO<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Open your Downloads folder and launch the installer file:<ul><li><strong>PC:<\/strong> Double-click the <em>HX Edit v2.71 Installer.exe <\/em>file and follow the on-screen instructions.<\/li><li><strong>Mac:<\/strong> Double-click the <em>HX Edit 2.71.dmg<\/em> file. In the window that appears, double-click the <em>HX Edit.pkg<\/em> file and follow the on-screen instructions.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>After the installation completes, connect your Helix processor to the computer with a USB cable and launch HX Edit.<ul><li>(<em>note<\/em>) If your Helix device does not connect, try other USB ports\/cables and make sure Helix is powered on.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>In HX Edit, open the <strong>File<\/strong> menu and select <strong>Create Backup\u2026<\/strong>. Use either the default Line 6 folder or choose another location <em>(external hard drive, cloud storage, etc.)<\/em> to save the <em>.hxb<\/em> backup file.<em> <\/em>You can also choose to back up your individual presets, folders\/setlists, or entire HX library\/bundle: File &gt; Export <strong>Preset\u2026 <em>\/<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em><strong>Setlist\u2026 <em>\/ <\/em>Bundle\u2026<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Save-impulse-responses\"><strong>Save impulse responses<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Any impulse responses you upload are saved with Backups, but they&#8217;re not tied to the individual Presets, Setlists, or Bundles, rather their IR number is. Since the firmware is updatable, Line 6 is able to apply new features and optimizations; such as the Snapshots feature included since v2.0. Performing a Helix firmware update requires the <strong>Line 6 Updater<\/strong> app, which is installed alongside <strong>HX Edit<\/strong>.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Close all apps and use your current version of <strong>Helix\/HX Edit<\/strong> to <a href=\"#Back-up-presets-and-settings\">back up your HX presets<\/a> to a computer.&nbsp;<ul><li>If you need to install HX Edit, go to the Line 6 <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/line6.com\/software\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Downloads page<\/a> and download the latest version closest to your Helix\u2019s current firmware version <em>(shown on-screen while powering on)<\/em>. Don\u2019t use a more recent version of HX Edit until after performing the firmware update.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>After backing up your settings, go to the Line 6 <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/line6.com\/software\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Downloads page<\/a> and download <strong>the latest version<\/strong> of HX Edit for your operating system.&nbsp;<ul><li>Both the driver and Line 6 Updater app are installed alongside HX Edit and you do not need to install them separately.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Open your <strong>Downloads<\/strong> folder and launch the installer file:<ul><li><strong>PC:<\/strong> Double-click the <em>Line 6 Updater<\/em> <strong>.exe<\/strong> installer file and follow the on-screen instructions.<\/li><li><strong>Mac:<\/strong> Double-click the <em>HX Edit<\/em> <strong>.dmg<\/strong> file. In the new window that appears, double-click the <em>HX Edit<\/em> <strong>.pkg<\/strong> installer file and follow the on-screen instructions.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Once HX Edit installation completes, connect Helix to your computer via USB and launch the <strong>Line 6 Updater<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Select your Helix from the Line 6 Updater window and then click the newest firmware\u2019s <strong>Update<\/strong> button to start the update.<\/li><li>Follow the on-screen instructions and wait for the firmware update to complete <em>(about 5 minutes)<\/em>. When the update completes, Helix will restart and rebuild its presets <em>(about 2 minutes)<\/em>.&nbsp;<ul><li><strong>Helix Control:<\/strong> If you\u2019re using Helix Control with Helix Rack, connect and power on Helix Control. The inspector will ask if you want to update its firmware. Press Knob 6 (OK) and wait for the update to complete.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Restart your Helix device.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Update-Factory-Presets\">Update Factory Presets<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The included Factory Presets are optimized or updated with each Firmware version, but they won\u2019t be loaded until you restore them with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/how-to-factory-reset-a-helix-family-device\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Factory Reset<\/a>. When the device restarts, you\u2019ll see the new firmware version, and can then use <strong>HX Edit<\/strong> to load your backup file (<em><a href=\"#Back-up-presets-and-settings\">above<\/a><\/em>) onto your Helix device.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Restore-a-backup\">Restore a backup<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Backups are best saved in their default Line 6 Documents folder, but you can save them on cloud storage or on a USB drive for a handy backup.
