If you\u2019re using a higher or lower pitched instrument, like the ukulele or upright bass, you\u2019ll want to load the matching firmware so your instrument sounds best. Training the ToneDexter for the first time is simple and doesn\u2019t require much. To train it, you\u2019ll need a microphone, preferably a small diaphragm condenser<\/strong>. The microphone input provides 48V phantom power, so condensers and active microphones will work. The idea is to get an accurate sample, or WaveMap<\/strong>, of your acoustic instrument, and some microphones aren\u2019t able to reproduce as clear of a sound. We found the first pass ended up sounding great, but you may prefer repeating the process with different mic positions to help shape the sound. Regardless of the instrument, the microphone should be one or two feet (no more)<\/em> from the instrument. The positioning and angle will determine the tonal characteristics.
