If you own a DAW controller and want to use it in Pro Tools, you must configure the settings before you can control it. That means you must select the controller\u2019s protocol and port settings within Pro Tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re unsure how to change your MIDI device\u2019s protocol (mode), check its user\u2019s manual for more information. Also, be sure to download your DAW controller\u2019s latest driver beforehand!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where Can I Download the Drivers for My Audio or MIDI Interface?<\/p>

Pro Tools supports a variety of DAW controllers and EUCON control surfaces. If you are setting up a DAW controller for the first time, we recommend reading Getting Started with DAW Controllers<\/a> first, then following the instructions below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Enable MIDI Devices<\/strong><\/a><\/li>
  2. Configure MIDI Controllers<\/strong><\/a><\/li>
  3. EUCON and EuControl Setup<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Enable MIDI Devices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    For your DAW controller to work in Pro Tools, it must first be enabled within the MIDI settings. If it isn\u2019t enabled, Pro Tools won\u2019t respond to the controller\u2019s MIDI data. While keyboards and MIDI notes will work once enabled, DAW controllers with faders, encoders, or transport controls will still need to be configured after enabling them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Open the Setup <\/strong>menu, hover over MIDI, then select MIDI Input Devices\u2026<\/strong>.<\/li>
    2. Enable your MIDI device by clicking its checkbox.<\/li>
    3. Click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>

      Configure MIDI Controllers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      DAW controllers (and control surfaces) must be configured further in Pro Tools before their control features will work. You must select a controller\u2019s protocol and ports in the DAW settings. Without the correct port or protocol, the MIDI device and DAW won\u2019t be able to communicate with each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      If you\u2019re unsure how to change your MIDI device\u2019s protocol, check its user manual to learn how. EUCON devices are configured a little differently with the EuControl app<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Open the Setup <\/strong>menu and select Peripherals<\/strong>.<\/li>
      2. Click the MIDI Controllers<\/strong> tab and select your controller\u2019s protocol Type<\/em>, Receive From<\/em> port, and Send To<\/em> port.<\/li>
      3. Click OK <\/strong>to save your changes and close the window.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
