By the time the signal travels to the end of a long (25\u2019 or more) unbalanced cable, it\u2019s so weak that it may end up sounding noisy. However, with speaker cables, the signal has been amplified by all the gain stages in the mixer and power amp. Power amps make the signal much larger than the signal which goes through an instrument cable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared to how much we\u2019re amplifying the signal, the amount of noise in a 20\u2019 unbalanced cable is roughly the same as a 50\u2019 cable. That means there\u2019s much more signal but approximately the same amount of noise inside a speaker cable.
