The standard method of doing this is via Wi-Fi, connecting your iPad or Android tablet or your desktop computer to the X Air\u2019s internal Wi-Fi access point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are alternative connection methods that offer certain advantages depending on your needs, for example, with an Ethernet cable to your computer or tablet, with an external Wi-Fi router, or wirelessly through the Wi-Fi Client feature. That app is no longer supported. You will be using the new-generation Behringer <strong>MX-Mix app<\/strong> for iPad or Android instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Getting-Started\"><em>Getting Started<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Since your Behringer X Air mixer has no physical knobs or faders, you control it from the <strong>MX-Mix app<\/strong> on your iPad or Android tablet or from the <strong>X-Air Edit app<\/strong> on your Mac or Windows PC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get started, we recommend using your mixer\u2019s built-in <strong>Wi-Fi Access Point<\/strong> to connect to an iPad or Android tablet running the MX-Mix app. Set up your system according to the instructions in our SweetCare <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/x-air-quickstart-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Behringer X AIR Quickstart Guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/x-air-quickstart-guide\/\" class=\"relatedcontent_link\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-related-content\"><div class=\"relatedcontent_block\" style=\"background-image:url(https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2018\/12\/X-AIR-Quickstart-Hero-Image.png);background-size:cover;background-position:center\"><div class=\"relatedcontent_overlay_content\"><\/div><div class=\"relatedcontent-text relatedcontent_content\"><p class=\"relatedcontent_title\" style=\"color:#fff\">Behringer X AIR Quickstart Guide<\/p><p class=\"relatedcontent_subhead\" style=\"color:#fff;border:none\"><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Behringer X AIR Quickstart Guide<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Other-Options\"><em>Other Options<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides using the Wi-Fi access point, there are two options for configuring your mixer\u2019s network connection: as a Wi-Fi client or via Ethernet cable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The X Air mixer\u2019s Ethernet port can be used to connect a cable directly to a computer or to an external Wi-Fi router.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wired control from the app on your computer over an Ethernet connection is a reliable alternative. Tablets are not officially supported, but you can connect one via a network cable with the appropriate Ethernet adapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While your mixer\u2019s built-in Wi-Fi access point is sufficient for most cases, you can also set up your mixer to use an external Wi-Fi router connected with an Ethernet cable. An external Wi-Fi router can give you increased range and dual-band connections for more robust wireless control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"IP-Address-&amp;-DHCP\"><em>IP Address &amp; DHCP<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Network connection, whether over Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable, requires configuring your X Air and the computer or tablet with IP addresses. The X Air has three options for addressing this: DHCP Server, DHCP Client, and fixed IP address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It\u2019s a computer networking standard used by a router or Wi-Fi access point to automatically assign temporary IP (Internet Protocol) addresses to connecting devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more in the <strong>Behringer X Air User Manual &gt; 4. Network Connection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Ethernet-Cable-Connection\"><strong>Ethernet Cable Connection<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect a Cat 5e cable to the port on your X Air labeled \u201cRemote Ethernet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The port labeled \u201cUltranet Personal Monitoring,\u201d which has the same plug connection, doesn\u2019t work with Ethernet. The Ultranet port is only for connecting Behringer P16 personal monitor mixers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Mac-or-Windows-PC-via-Ethernet\"><em>Mac or Windows PC via Ethernet<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>On your X Air, move the <strong>Remote<\/strong> switch to <strong>Ethernet<\/strong>.<\/li><li>On your computer, launch the X-Air Edit app.<\/li><li>Click \u201c<strong>Setup<\/strong>\u201d and select the <strong>Connection<\/strong> tab.<\/li><li>Click \u201c<strong>Rescan<\/strong>,\u201d select your mixer, and then click \u201c<strong>Connect<\/strong>.\u201d<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Your computer should connect to the X Air mixer by being assigned an IP address over DHCP. If the mixer isn\u2019t visible within the app, then you may need to adjust your computer\u2019s network settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"iPad-or-Android-via-Ethernet\"><em>iPad or Android via Ethernet<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Connecting a tablet over Ethernet with a cable is not officially supported, but it should be possible with a compatible Ethernet adapter to a USB-C data cable with an iPad or Android tablet with a USB-C port running the<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/behringer-mx-mix-and-mx-q-mobile-apps-quickstart-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MX-Mix app<\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/behringer-mx-mix-and-mx-q-mobile-apps-quickstart-guide\/\" class=\"relatedcontent_link\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-related-content\"><div class=\"relatedcontent_block\" style=\"background-image:url(https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2026\/03\/20260326-BehringerMX-Mix-Quickstart_1600x838.jpg);background-size:cover;background-position:center\"><div class=\"relatedcontent_overlay_content\"><\/div><div class=\"relatedcontent-text relatedcontent_content\"><p class=\"relatedcontent_title\" style=\"color:#fff\">Behringer MX-Mix and MX-Q Mobile Apps Quickstart Guide<\/p><p class=\"relatedcontent_subhead\" style=\"color:#fff;border:none\"><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a>\n\n\n\n<p>A reliable Ethernet cable connection can be useful in a location where the Wi-Fi networks are crowded. Test your connection thoroughly before taking it to the gig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Use your iPad or Android tablet and the MX-Mix app to connect to the mixer over Wi-Fi as usual.<\/li><li>On the MX-Mix app, in the <strong>Network<\/strong> settings, set the <strong>LAN Settings<\/strong> to \u201cDHCP Server\u201d and then tap \u201c<strong>Apply<\/strong>.\u201d<\/li><li>On the X Air mixer, move the <strong>Remote<\/strong> switch to <strong>Ethernet<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Connect a Cat 5e cable to the mixer\u2019s Ethernet port and, with the Ethernet adapter and USB-C data cable, connect to your iPad or Android tablet.<\/li><li>On your iPad or Android tablet, turn Wi-Fi off.<\/li><li>On the MX-Mix app, enter the mixer\u2019s IP address (the default is 193.168.1.1) to connect.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"External-Wireless-Router\"><strong>External Wireless Router<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two modes for using an external router:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>You can connect an external Wi-Fi router to the Ethernet port on your X Air mixer. You must then configure your X Air to use the external router rather than using the internal Wi-Fi access point.<\/li><li>In Wi-Fi Client mode, you can use the X Air\u2019s internal Wi-Fi access point to connect to a venue\u2019s external Wi-Fi router wirelessly.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Connect-an-External-Wi-Fi-Router\"><em>Connect an External Wi-Fi Router<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>On the external Wi-Fi router, configure it for DHCP. Consult the router\u2019s user manual for instructions.<\/li><li>Power off the X Air mixer. Connect a Cat 5e cable from the X Air\u2019s <strong>Ethernet<\/strong> port to one of the Wi-Fi router\u2019s LAN ports.<\/li><li>On the X Air mixer, move the <strong>Remote<\/strong> switch to <strong>Ethernet<\/strong> and then turn on the power.<\/li><li>Use Wi-Fi to connect your remote-control device (your iPad, Android tablet, Mac or Windows PC) to the external Wi-Fi router. You can use its internal Wi-Fi access point to connect wirelessly to a venue\u2019s Wi-Fi network. Then your remote-control devices, which are also connected to the venue\u2019s Wi-Fi, can control the X Air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This requires some configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>On the external router, configure it for DHCP. Consult the router\u2019s user manual for instructions.<\/li><li>Connect your X Air to your computer using an Ethernet cable and use the X-Air Edit app to enable Wi-Fi Client mode.<\/li><li>On your computer, in the X-Air Edit app, click \u201cSetup\u201d and select \u201c<strong>Wi-Fi Client\/WLAN<\/strong>.\u201d<\/li><li>Provide the credentials to connect to the external network:<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Security: Password type<\/li><li>SSID: Wireless network name<\/li><li>KEY: Network password<\/li><li>MODE: Select \u201cDHCP\u201d unless you are using a manual IP address.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Using Wi-Fi, connect your iPad or Android tablet to the external network and launch the MX-Mix app. Select and connect to your X Air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2
