Import Audio command<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
- To import files with the Import Audio command from the Menu bar, click File > Import > <\/em>Audio<\/em><\/strong> (or use the keyboard shortcut Shift+Command+I<\/strong>).<\/li>
- In the Import Audio<\/strong> window, locate and select the desired audio file.<\/li>
- Add the audio files<\/strong><\/a>, click Done<\/a><\/strong>, then adjust the Audio Input settings<\/a><\/strong> as needed.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
Preview clips before importing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
If you need to listen to the selected audio clip before importing it, click the Play<\/strong> button near the bottom of the Import Audio box. The vertical slider will adjust the playback volume of the clip, while the horizontal slider lets you scroll through the clip to listen to a specific location within the clip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Add audio files<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
When you select a file, it appears in the Clips in Current File<\/strong> window. To add it to the Clips to Import<\/strong> list, select that file and click Add<\/strong> or Copy<\/strong>. If the file you\u2019re importing is at a different sample rate from your session, the Copy button will change to Convert, and that choice will be highlighted. While adding files with a different sampling rate to your session is possible, those files will play back at the wrong speed unless they are converted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You can also select all the files in the Clips in Current File window by selecting Add All, Copy All, or Convert All. Should you need to remove clips from the Import list, select the file you want to be removed from the list and click Remove (for a single file) or Remove All for everything in the Import list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Add or Copy files?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
If you select Add files<\/strong> to your current session (instead of Copy), then the audio files will stay in the source folder on the source drive where they currently reside. This will work as long as that drive is connected to your computer. If you are adding files to your session from a collaborator\u2019s drive that they will take with them, you must select Copy<\/strong> to transfer the files to your local drive. It\u2019s a big deal and a \u201cgotcha\u201d that has caused many files to be declared \u201cmissing\u201d when a session is opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What about Sample Rate Conversion (SRC)?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Since all files in a session need to be at a single sample rate (which was chosen when you created the session), any files that you import will need to be at the sampling rate of the session. Once you\u2019ve selected the file (or files) you want to add to your session, check to ensure that the Apply SRC<\/strong> button is enabled. Pro Tools typically recognizes the sampling rate of the selected file and will automatically enable the SRC button. If it doesn\u2019t, you can manually specify the source sample rate and the Sample Rate Conversion quality (higher-quality settings take more time, but the results generally sound better).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click Done<\/strong>. A new window will open that asks where the copied and converted files should be placed; the default location is the Audio Files folder in the current session. Click Open<\/strong>, or choose another location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Adjust Audio Import options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Finally, the Audio Import Options window will open. This window lets you specify both the destination of the new file, as well as the location in the session where the imported files will go. Choosing New Track<\/strong> will put each audio file into its own track, and the Location menu allows you to choose to place the track at the Session Start<\/strong>, the Song Start<\/strong> (if you have a Song Start Marker), the Selection<\/strong> (which aligns the session start with the cursor), or Spot<\/strong> (opening the Spot window, which lets you place the file at a specific time in the session).<\/p>\n\n\n\n - In the Import Audio<\/strong> window, locate and select the desired audio file.<\/li>
