This article explains how to activate your MIDI keyboard or controller in KONTAKT and how to assign it to the KONTAKT Instrument you wish to play.<\/p>\n

Activating your MIDI Device<\/h2>\n

  1. In KONTAKT’s Main Control Panel, click the\u00a0Options<\/strong>\u00a0icon to\u00a0open the Options window.

  2. In the Options window, click the MIDI<\/strong> tab. The Inputs\u00a0section displays all MIDI input devices detected on your system.\u00a0As seen in the screenshot below, these are\u00a0not yet\u00a0activated; their status is\u00a0set to “Off<\/strong>“.

  3. Click in\u00a0the status\u00a0display next to your MIDI device’s name\u00a0and select the KONTAKT MIDI port you want to assign your MIDI device\u00a0to. In this example, we assign our MIDI keyboard Origin25 to KONTAKT’s Port A<\/strong>.

    Defining a MIDI Port and Channel for your KONTAKT\u00a0Instrument<\/h2>\n

    When loading a KONTAKT Instrument into the Rack, a MIDI Port and MIDI Channel will automatically\u00a0be assigned to the Instrument. This information is displayed\u00a0in the Midi Ch<\/strong> box\u00a0in the Instrument\u00a0Header. In this example, the Instrument is assigned to Port [A]<\/strong><\/strong> and to MIDI\u00a0Channel 1<\/strong>.

    \nWhen loading\u00a0more than one Instrument to the Rack, KONTAKT automatically assigns the next available MIDI channel\u00a0to any additional Instrument.\u00a0If you want to change this assignment, open the Midi\u00a0Channel<\/strong> drop-down menu from the Instrument’s Header\u00a0and select the MIDI Port and Channel you want to use for this particular Instrument.
