Available bandwidth also depends on the session sample rate; the higher the sample rate, the more bandwidth is consumed. FireWire bandwidth is displayed in the \u201cFBW\u201d meter in the UAD Meter &amp; Control Panel application:<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.uaudio.com\/media\/assetlibrary\/m\/e\/meter-fbw.jpg\" alt=\"UAD Meter FireWire Bandwidth\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>UAD Bandwidth Allocation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The UAD Bandwidth Allocation setting reserves FireWire bandwidth for UAD plug-ins used within a DAW. The default value (45%) allows Apollo to run at higher sample rates (88.2 \u2013 192 kHz).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> If using sample rates of 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, we recommend increasing the UAD Bandwidth Allocation setting to allow more UAD plug-ins to run within the DAW. See the table below for recommended values.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended Maximum UAD Bandwidth Allocation Values<\/strong><\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Sample Rate (kHz):<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>44.1, 48<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>88.2, 96<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>176.4, 192<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Without<\/strong> external FireWire hard drive:<\/td>\n<td>80%<\/td>\n<td>70%<\/td>\n<td>55%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>With<\/strong> external FireWire hard drive:<\/td>\n<td>55%<\/td>\n<td>40%<\/td>\n<td>20%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>I\/O buffer setting for best playback results:<\/td>\n<td>512<\/td>\n<td>1024<\/td>\n<td>2048<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>To change the UAD Bandwidth Allocation setting:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Quit all DAW software and the Console application (most UAD hosts must be quit to change this setting).<\/li>\n<li>Open the UAD Meter &amp; Control Panel application. It can be accessed under the blue UA diamond icon in the OS X Menu Bar at upper right of screen (as shown below).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.uaudio.com\/media\/assetlibrary\/m\/i\/mixer-engine-menu.jpg\" alt=\"Accessing the UAD Meter\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the \u201cFireWire\u201d panel by clicking the menu button in the UAD Meter window, as shown below (or type Cmd-F as a shortcut).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.uaudio.com\/media\/assetlibrary\/m\/e\/meter-menu.jpg\" alt=\"UAD Meter Menu\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Change the UAD Bandwidth Allocation setting (shown below) by clicking the up or down arrows.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.uaudio.com\/media\/assetlibrary\/f\/b\/fbw-setting.jpg\" alt=\"UAD Bandwidth Allocation\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>UAD Bandwidth Allocation Notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To run more UAD plug-ins within a DAW, use USB, eSATA, or internal hard drives for audio session files instead of FireWire drives.<\/li>\n<li>Mac FireWire performance is better on some systems versus others due to the FireWire controller chips they contain. In general, newer Mac Pro, iMac, and Mac mini systems contain a superior FireWire controller chip and will deliver better FireWire performance than MacBook Pro systems. There is no simple method to determine which controller is used.<\/li>\n<li>Apollo has intelligent FireWire bus monitoring. If audio playback is compromised, a \u201cFireWire Interrupt Detected\u201d dialog appears. If that occurs, <strong>decrease<\/strong> the UAD Bandwidth Allocation setting for reliable playback. Note that even if the dialog appears during playback, audio file integrity is never compromised during recording.<\/li>\n<li>The UAD Bandwidth Allocation only applies when UAD plug-ins are used within a DAW.
