If your computer has a built-in ethernet port, the protocols that control it can often cause distortion in audio playback and sometimes even in recording. The level of distortion can vary, but the cause is usually the same.<\/p>\n
If you experience this problem you will need to disable AppleTalk Networking and set TCP\/IP to PPP mode or disable it completely. Perform the following instructions:<\/p>\n
A) Disable AppleTalk Network<\/p>\n
1. Click on the Apple icon on the top left corner of your screen and select “Control Panels >” from the list, then from the window that appears to the right choose “AppleTalk.”
2. Select “Edit” from the top menu and then choose “User Mode” from the list.
3. In the “User Mode” dialog box, check the “Advanced” bubble item and click [OK].
4. Click on the [Options…] button, check the “Inactive” bubble and click [OK].
5. Select “File” from the top menu and then “Quit” from the list.
6. Click the [Save] button and restart the Macintosh.<\/p>\n
B) Set TCP\/IP to PPP Mode<\/p>\n
1. Click on the Apple icon on the top left corner of your screen and select “Control Panels >” from the list, then from the window that appears at the left choose “TCP\/IP.”
2. Set the “Connect via:” option at the top to “PPP.”
3. Select “File” from the top menu and then “Quit” from the list.
4. Click the [Save] button and restart the Macintosh again to finish.<\/p>\n
Once you have completed the steps above, test your UA-30 to see if the distortion is still there. Setting TCP\/IP to PPP mode will allow you to maintain your network connections, but may not completely get rid of the audio distortion. If the audio is satisfactory at this point you are all done, otherwise continue with the next and final step:<\/p>\n
C) Disable TCP\/IP<\/p>\n
1. Click on the Apple icon on the top left corner of your screen and select “Control Panels >” from the list, then from the window that appears to the right choose “TCP\/IP.”
2. Select “Edit” from the top menu and then choose “User Mode” from the list.
3. In the “User Mode” dialog box, check the “Advanced” bubble item and click [OK].
4. Click on the [Options…] button, check the “Inactive” bubble and click [OK].
5. Select “File” from the top menu and then “Quit” from the list.
