They provide FreeMIDI with the default factory patch names for various synthesizers. When FreeMIDI detects that no editor/librarian program has been used for a device, it looks up the factory default names in the appropriate file. The name of the synthesizer’s manufacturer is used to determine the subfolder, and the name of the synthesizer model is used to identify the file.

The expansion board text files are for use with the JD-990, JV-80/880/90/1000, JV-1080, JV-2080, XP-50, and XP-80 synthesizers, and include the correct bank select numbers for any possible configuration. They are located in the ROLAND folder (within the Default Names folder) and are divided into subfolders which represent the physical expansion slots in these synthesizers.

When using with JD-990, you must “Convert Load” patches, and then a “Load” of the patches must be performed. Refer to JD-990 Manual for further instructions.

When using with JV-80 or JV-880, a “Load” of the patches must be performed first. Refer to JV-80/880 Owner’s Manual for further instructions.

HOW TO USE THESE FILES:

1. Launch the SimpleText application. From the FILE menu, open the default names file for the Roland synthesizer you have. [System Folder: FreeMIDI Folder: Default Names: Roland]
For example, if you have a JV-1080 module, open the file called “JV-1080”.

2. Leave the file open, and also open the expansion board file for the card(s) currently installed in your synthesizer.
For example, if you have a JV-1080 module with a Pop expansion board installed in slot A, open the file called “1 Pop Expansion A” (in the JV-1080/2080, XP-50/80 Expansion A folder).

3. Select all of the text and copy it to the clipboard (from the EDIT menu).

4. Close the expansion board file.

5. Scroll to the bottom of the default names file which you had previously opened and paste the text into it (from the EDIT menu).

6. Repeat this procedure as necessary for all currently installed expansion boards.
For example, if your JV-1080 module also has a Dance expansion board in slot B, open the file called “6 Dance Expansion B” and repeat steps 3 – 5.

NOTE – If you encounter the “This document is too large to accept text from the clipboard” message, you will have to launch Word Perfect™ or another word processing program to continue to paste additional expansion boards. Don’t forget to save the document as a “Text Only” file.

7. SAVE the changes and quit the SimpleText application.

That’s all there is to it! You should now see the expansion board patches in the pop-up patch lists in your FreeMIDI applications. For more information about creating your own default names files, read the file called “About Default Names” which is located in the FreeMIDI folder.

[20986,32992
33566,33684

<meta property="og:description" content="The pop-up patch lists you see in Performer™, Digital Performer™, Composer’s Mosaic™, and FreeStyle™ are text files which are stored within the Default Names folder (which is in the FreeMIDI folder, which resides in the System folder).
