Finale does not contain any preset patch (instrument) lists other than General MIDI. Here’s how to make your own instrument list in 8 easy steps:<\/p>\n
1. Go to Window – Instrument List.<\/p>\n
2. Under Instrument, there is a pull-down menu which says None. Pull this down to New Instrument.<\/p>\n
3. Here you can type the name of the patch \/ instrument you are adding, e.g. Solo Trombone.<\/p>\n
4. For the Patch pulldown menu, select Bank Select 32, Program Change.<\/p>\n
5. Enter the appropriate bank and patch number which corresponds to the patch you want on the keyboard. e.g. Solo Trombone would be Bank Select 32 = 1 and Patch 30. Basically, the Bank Select 32 is the 100s part of the patch number.<\/p>\n
6. Ignore the General MIDI menu and channel number and press OK.<\/p>\n
7. You can choose to add more as necessary.<\/p>\n
8. When finished, go to File – Save Library and choose Instruments, press OK. Name your file something easy to remember- you’ll want to load this at the beginning of each new piece you start and add to it as needed. This basically saves only the instrument list you are creating.<\/p>\n
