Make sure you have a Deck session open and that<br \/>a sound source is hooked up to the audio inputs.<br \/>2. To hear what you are recording, you should also<br \/>hook up the audio outputs to an amplifier with<br \/>speakers or a headphone amplifier. For more<br \/>information, see “Making Audio Connections” on<br \/>page 10.<br \/>3. Select the desired audio input from the pop-up<br \/>menu to the right of the track name.<br \/>4. Click the R button to record-enable the desired<br \/>track.<br \/>5. Choose Windows > Mixer. The Track VUs will<br \/>now be input level VUs and register any input<br \/>signal.<br \/>6. Begin playing from your source and monitor the<br \/>incoming signal to keep the VU meter as close to<br \/>the top without turning on the clip light (the<br \/>small square at the top of the VU meter). The clip<br \/>light indicates that audio recorded at this level will<br \/>be distorted. Turn off the clip light by clicking it,<br \/>and adjust the incoming audio and\/or the input<br \/>level as follows:<br \/>– If you are using the built-in 16 bit audio hardware<br \/>of your Power Macintosh, set the Analog Input<br \/>Level (from the Options menu) to 0 and turn up<br \/>the level of your incoming audio (instrument or<br \/>mixer) at the source until it registers correctly in<br \/>the input VU meters. An Analog Input Level<br \/>setting of 0 does not turn off the input; it turns off<br \/>the low-quality on-board preamp that causes<br \/>recording anomalies.<br \/>– If you have any other audio hardware, you may<br \/>need to adjust the volume of the incoming signal<br \/>at the source to get a good level.<br \/>7. Multiple tracks can be recorded at once, but two<br \/>record tracks cannot be set to the same input. If<br \/>you wish to record in stereo, simply record-enable<br \/>two tracks, assigning one to input 1 and the other<br \/>to input 2. For true stereo separation, remember<br \/>to pan one track hard left and the other hard right<br \/>to match the stereo image of your source audio.<br \/>8. Adjust the monitor level of the track you’re<br \/>recording by sliding its track fader up or down in<br \/>the Mixer window.<br \/>When you have a track record-enabled, the track<br \/>volume fader adjusts the volume level for<br \/>monitoring the track. It does not change the<br \/>record level. When the track is not record-enabled,<br \/>the track volume fader adjusts the<br \/>output level of any audio that is already on the<br \/>track. This volume can be set to a different level<br \/>than the input monitor volume, which is useful<br \/>during punch-in recording. You should use the<br \/>track faders to adjust playback volume to your<br \/>liking, but always make sure that the analog input<br \/>level or output level of your source is set so that<br \/>the channel VU meter registers a high signal level,<br \/>with no clipping.<br \/>Due to limitations in Apple’s Sound Manager, you<br \/>cannot change the monitor volume or pan of any<br \/>track while it is being recorded with a Power<br \/>Macintosh. Moreover, tracks being recorded will<br \/>always play back through the system at full<br \/>volume while you record, and will monitor<br \/>through the channel you’ve set as their input<br \/>channel. (In other words, you cannot record into<br \/>input 1 and monitor through output 2.) It may be<br \/>useful to use an external mixer hooked up to your<br \/>Macintosh computer’s audio output jacks to<br \/>better control playback volume and panning.<br \/>9. When you are ready to record on the enabled<br \/>track(s), click the Transport’s Record button, and<br \/>then click the Play button (Spacebar).<br \/>As soon as you click the Play button, Deck begins<br \/>recording.<br \/>10. When you are finished recording, click the<br \/>Transport’s Stop button (Spacebar).<br \/>If the recording ends before you stop it, you have run<br \/>out of disk space.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","categories":[],"tags":[],"storecat":[],"itemids":[20873],"manufacturers":[33221],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v17.9 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Check out the To record into the Tracks window: page at Sweetwater \u2014 the world's leading music technology and instrument retailer!\" \/>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/record-tracks-window\/\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_US\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"To record into the Tracks window: - SweetCare\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"To record into the Tracks window:1.
