If you want Motif to work like a drum machine here are some step by step tips. <\/p>\n
– Go to Pattern Mode and call up a blank pattern.
– Press F4 [Pattern Patch] You will see 16 Tracks and next to each track are two set of three dashes.
– Cursor to the left set of dashes, this is where you can select either Preset or User phrases to “Patch” in to your pattern.
– Press the increment button once so that Pre :001 appears in the screen. You have now selected the first phrase in a Preset bank of 128 drum patterns.
– If you cursor to the right and highlight 001, you can now increment to call up different phrases. Phrase 65 – 88 are all rock drum phrases. <\/p>\n
Lets’ put phrase 65 on track 1. <\/p>\n
Now let’s press the section button so it’s LED is lit and press the B button. You will know see a blank Pattern patch. Repeat the process above, but “patch” in phrase 66. You know have two sections finished but you can have as many 16 sections with different patterns and call them up in real time. <\/p>\n
This is how Motif basically works like a drum machine. Here is tip for quickly creating your own phrases using the presets as a starting point. <\/p>\n
Let’s say you like the basic groove of Preset phrase 65, but want to change the snare. On the Pattern patch page, you can copy user or preset phrases. <\/p>\n
Press SF5[Copy] and it will select the currently highlighted preset phrase and you can copy it to a User location. Once it is a User phrase, you can press Rec, select overdub as the recording type and add new parts to the phrase. <\/p>\n
If you want to remove and change a particular sound ( in this case the snare), while the sequencer is running in Rec Mode, press and hold down the key the snare is on and the erase button [SF6]. This Erase feature lets you easily erase specific notes at specific times. <\/p>\n
You can continue to use preset phrases, copy presets to user phrase and modify them or just start from scratch if you want to build a complete Pattern Style with up to 16 sections and 256 phrases. <\/p>\n
When you have all your drum parts finished, you can arrange your song using the Section buttons and Pattern Chain. <\/p>\n
Push pattern chain [F6], and select the pattern style you have created and set the tempo.
