If you have a MIDI interface or other device that can supply standard analog SMPTE timecode, the BRC can be slaved to the sequencer. However, it’s better if the sequencer is the slave to the BRC, since the sequencer has the advantage of random access. If the sequencer were the master, performing a locate would cause sequencer to immediately jump to the locate time, begin playing, and generating MTC. The BRC would then have to REW\/FF the ADATs to appropriate location and then sync up. This would require ten seconds or more to occur from the time the locate is issued. By having the BRC as the timing master, you would simply issue a command from the sequencer causing the BRC to go to a locate and enter PLAY. As soon as the BRC sends the ADATs into play, the BRC begins generating MTC\/Clock to the sequencer, causing it to start immediately. This method is preferred as it is both time saving and convenient.
