The sampling option provides a 16 bit stereo digital output, with both coaxial and optical connectors. This digital output is actually the output of the sampler’s Analog to Digital Converter, and can convert external analog signals, or the K2600’s analog mix output, into AES/EBU or SPDIF format. This can be at a selected rate, either 48, 44.1, 32 or 29.6kHz, or can be slaved to an external clock.

Here’s a step by step explanation of how to make the sampling option digital output work:

1. Go to the Sample Mode page. (In Program, Setup, Quick Access, or Master mode, press the Sample soft button.)

2. Set the value of the Input parameter to Digital to access the Format parameter.

3. Set the value of the Format parameter as needed. SPDIF is the most common setting. You may want to use AES/EBU in professional environments.

4. Set the value of Input to Analog to access the Source and Rate parameters.

5. Set the Src parameter to Int for the K2600’s own analog mix output, or if you want to convert an external analog source to digital, set it to Ext.

6. Set the Rate parameter as needed for cases where the K2600 is the master. If you need to slave to an external clock, connect the master signal to the digital input, switch Input to Digital, and set the value of the Cable parameter to coaxial or optical, based on the digital input.

The Input parameter controls whether the K2600 is the master (Input=Analog) or slave (Input=Digital).

For a K2500 With KDFX or a K2600 With the Digital I/O Option
Once KDFX is added to the K2500 (or the Digital I/O to a K2600), you will see a new parameter added to the page called Out. If it is set to Dir (Direct), you have the ability to send a 16 or 20 bit stereo AES or SPDIF digital output at a fixed rate of 48kHz, as well as an eight channel digital output using Kurzweil’s KDS format, also at a fixed rate of 48kHz. The stereo digital output is a copy of the signal routed to output A, dithered to either 16 or 20 bits. This digital output cannot slave to an external clock, so in cases where you need to slave to a master clock, either the K2600 must be the master, or you need a sample rate converter (like a DMTi). The eight channel output is a copy of the signals routed to the eight separate outputs, and requires a DMTi or other KDS compatible device.

Only the signal routed to the A Out on the OUTPUT page within the Studio Editor will show up at the regular Digital Out on the K2500/K2600. (This can however, contain all of the different FX Bus routings. Please see our KDFX Audio Routing FAQ if you have questions on this.) You can send all 8 channels of digital audio if you have the K2500/K2600 connected to the DMTi.

If you switch the Out parameter to A/D, then the signal is run through the Digitech circuitry and the information described in the Without KDFX section applies.

Make sure that the Src parameter is set to Int (Internal). (If it is set to Ext, you can use the Kurzweil as an A/D convertor, taking the signal coming into the sampling input and routing it to the Digital Out.)

[24235,24243
33482

<meta property="og:description" content="You need to have the sampling option in your unit if you want to be able to have Digital Output.
