User installation may  void warranty in some cases.   Please read your owners manual or documentation for more information.<\/p>\n<p>   1. Make sure the computer is turned OFF, but leave the power plugged in.  Open the G4 or (blue) G3&#8217;s side door.  Touch a metal wall or panel inside the computer to release any static electricity.  Avoid shuffling your feet (you can generate static this way).<br \/>   2. Locate ATA drive which is built into the Mac.  It is mounted on the &#8220;floor&#8221; inside the Mac<br \/>   3. Gently disconnect the IDE ribbon cable &#038; power supply cable from the &#8220;built-in&#8221; ATA drive.<br \/>   4. A single phillips head screw holds the &#8220;built-in&#8221; drive to the floor of the Mac.  It is located just below the IDE ribbon cable connection on the drive.  Remove this screw, and pull the HD (and it&#8217;s mount) out of the Mac.<br \/>   5. Remove your &#8220;new&#8221; ATA hard drive from its packaging.  Check the Jumper settings &#8211; usually documented right on the drive itself.  Set the drive to be the IDE &#8220;slave&#8221;.<br \/>       *  The Glyph \/ Seagate drives sold by Sweetwater have one black jumper installed.  Simple REMOVE that jumper completely.<br \/>   6. Your G4 \/ Blue G3&#8217;s Accessory Kit (small box  which the Mouse, Keyboard, CD&#8217;s, etc. come in) comes with a  small bag of 4 or 5 screws.  Use these screws to mount the &#8216;new&#8217; drive on top of the the &#8216;built-in&#8217; drive with the brackets provided.  <br \/>    7.  Remount the Hard drives inside the Mac with the single mounting screw.<br \/>    8.  Attach the power supply connection to each drive, AND the IDE ribbon cables to each drive<\/p>\n<p>   Once the new ATA hard drive has been properly installed, you may boot your computer.  The new ATA drive will need to be initialized before use.<\/p>\n<p>1. Locate the Drive Setup folder in the Utilities folder  of your Macintosh HD.  Launch Drive setup.<br \/>2. In the Drive Setup window, click once  the the drive listed as  &#8220;<not initialized>  ATA&#8221;<br \/>Then click the &#8220;Initialize&#8230;&#8221;  Button.<br \/>3. An Initialize warning will appear &#8220;Initializing will destroy all data on the following volumes&#8221;.   Verify that the &#8220;<not initialized>  ATA&#8221; is the selected volume.   Then continue by clicking the &#8220;Initialize&#8221; button again.<br \/>4. A new HD icon  named &#8220;Untitled&#8221; will appear below the Macintosh HD icon.  You may Quit drive setup.<br \/>5. you can rename the &#8220;untitled&#8221; ATA drive by simply clicking once on the name &#8220;untitled&#8221;.  After about one second, the name will be highlighted.
