The problem here is actually quite simple. These drives are not partitioned or formatted. In order for the drive to show up in My Computer as a drive letter, you must run FDISK from the MS-DOS prompt.<\/p>\n
1. From the Taskbar click on “Start” then “Programs” then “MS-DOS Prompt.”
Or in Windows98 you can start from Command Prompt mode.<\/p>\n
2. Type FDISK [enter].<\/p>\n
3. Type Y [enter] to enable large disk support.<\/p>\n
4. Choose option 5 and [enter].<\/p>\n
5. Select the new drive number. The new drive will be the drive with a
number but no drive letter assigned. Example: 2 [enter].<\/p>\n
6. Choose option 1 and [enter] to create a DOS Partition.<\/p>\n
7. Choose option 1 and [enter] again to create a Primary DOS Partition. At
this point the integrity of the drive will be tested and you will see a
percentage status roll by.<\/p>\n
8. You will now be asked to use the entire drive for the Primary DOS
Partition. Y [enter] to do so. Once again FDISK will verify the drive’s integrity.<\/p>\n
9. Once done you will be prompted to hit ESC to exit to the main menu. Do so.<\/p>\n
10. ESC again to get back to the DOS prompt.<\/p>\n
11. Type exit [enter].<\/p>\n
12. Restart Windows<\/p>\n
13. In My Computer the drive will now appear with a drive letter. Double-click on the new drive letter just to make sure you selected the right one, and it will come up with an error. If it asks you to format it, select Yes.
