When I try to import videos into Pro Tools 11, I get a “missing CODEC” error.

If any unsupported AMA plug-ins are installed in Pro Tools 11, Pro Tools will post a warning stating that you may have a missing CODEC when attempting to import video.  An unsupported AMA plug-in on your system is most likely a result of an older Media Composer or 3rd-party AMA plug-in installation.

To resolve this either:

  • Uninstall Media Composer and any older AMA plug-ins and install a version that is supported with your current version of Pro Tools, or
  • Manually remove unsupported AMA plug-ins from the following location (Mac OS X): “/Library/Application Support/Avid/AVX2_Plug-Ins/AMA”

In some cases, this error is resolved by repairing permissions on Mac OS X.
