Using Harmony Engine with Sonar.

Here are the abbreviated steps for confirming that Harmony Engine is
properly installed and that Sonar is configured to load the Harmony
Engine plug-in.

Confirm that Harmony Engine is properly installed:
1. Plug in your iLok key which contains the authorization for Harmony
Engine.
2. Run the Authorization Wizard utility which is located in the
C:\Program Files\Antares Audio Technologies\Harmony Engine VST folder
3. You should receive a message at the end of the installation that ‘An
authorization exists on a connected iLok’. (PLEASE NOTE: If you do not
receive this successful authorization message and are instead directed
to our website to register the software, please stop the process and let
me know. I can then give you some steps to try to determine why your
iLok key is not being recognized by your computer.)

Configure your Sonar software:
1. After you receive the successful iLok authorization message, please
start up Sonar and open the Plug-in Manager window from under the Tools
menu in Sonar.
2. Then, select the option in the Plug-in Manager window to Start the
VST Configuration Wizard.
3. In the VST Configuration Wizard, select the option to Add the
‘Program Files/Antares Audio Technologies/’ folder as one of the custom
folders for Sonar to check for VST plug-ins.
4. After adding the Antares Audio Technologies folder to the list of
folders that will be scanned by Sonar, select the option to ‘Rescan
failed plug-ins’. This will refresh the plug-in list and Harmony Engine
should now appear in the effects listing.

If the above process does not help resolve the trouble, here are the
complete step by step fresh installation instructions. Following these
steps will insure that Harmony Engine is properly installed and
authorized on your system.

1. Plug-in your iLok USB key which contains the authorization for
Harmony Engine. If you have not yet authorized your iLok USB hardware
key, please complete the authorization using the following step by step
guide:

http://antarestech.com/downloads/iLok_Authorization_Guide.pdf

Once you have an authorized iLok key, confirm that your iLok is being
recognized by your system by taking the following steps:

A: Log in into your iLok.com account

B: Click on the Manage tab to access the “View the Contents of your
iLok” page.

C: Press the synchronize button on the “View the Contents of your iLok”
page.

D: Once the synchronization process has completed, there should be a
green button on the ‘View Contents of your iLok” page in the column
labeled ‘Inserted’. If this green button does not appear in the
‘Inserted’ column, please visit the RMA section of the iLok.com website
to determine if your iLok is working properly.

2. Select the option from the Add or Remove Programs section of the
Windows Control panel to remove any previous versions of Harmony Engine.

3. Search your system for the file Harmony Engine.dll and delete this file.

4. Download and install Harmony Engine from the following web link:

http://www.paceap.com/extensions/Drivers32.zip

7. After you have installed the latest Interlok drivers, please check
the Windows/System32 folder on your system drive to make certain that
the following Microsoft Runtime files are installed:

msvcp71.dll
msvcr71.dll
mfc71u.dll
mfc71.dll

If these files are not installed, you can download them from the
following web link:

http://antarestech.com/downloads/Microsoft_Runtime_Files.zip

Copy the four runtime files from this zipped folder into your
Windows/System 32 folder on your main hard drive. If you have other
versions of these files in the Windows/System 32 folder, you can just
select the option to overwrite the file with the new version that is
attached.

8. Next, please start up Sonar and open the Plug-in Manager window from
under the Tools menu in Sonar. Then, select the option in the Plug-in
Manager window to Start the VST Configuration Wizard. In the VST
Configuration Wizard, select the option to Add the ‘Program
Files/Antares Audio Technologies/’ folder as one of the custom folders
for Sonar to check for VST plug-ins.

9. After adding the Antares Audio Technologies folder to the list of
folders that will be scanned by Sonar, select the option to ‘Rescan
failed plug-ins’. This will refresh the plug-in list and Harmony Engine
should now appear in the effects listing.

Once Harmony Engine appears as a plugin, you can follow these steps to set it up for use within a project. To route MIDI to Harmony Engine in Sonar, there is a one-time setup operation that must be performed:
– Open Harmony Engine, right click in the FX bin of an audio track, and select the Harmony Engine from the AUDIO FX category.
– Click on Sonar’s [VST] button in the top panel of the plug-in
– At the bottom, choose ‘Plug-In Properties’
– Check the box “Configure as Synth” and click OK

Now, whenever you wish to use MIDI with Harmony Engine, when you select Harmony Engine as a plug-in, instead of choosing “Audio FX”, choose “Soft Synths” then the “vstplugins” tab, then choose Harmony Engine.

Harmony Engine will now appear as an available destination for any MIDI track.
