Quality
Every SJC maple shell is hand edged and finished. These steps are crucial not only to how an SJC drum sounds and plays, but also to how it reflects the personality of its player. SJC's top-shelf, Massachusetts-made kits are shaped, stained, painted, sprayed, assembled, and tuned in-house; each ships with a personalized birth certificate to chronicle its journey from conception to completion. Today, SJC has assembled a dedicated team of overseas craftspeople to bring its modern, focused tones and sumptuous looks to a broader audience via its import snares and drum kits.
Culture
SJC comes by its bootstrap culture honestly. Co-founders Scott and Mike Ciprari cut their teeth building drums in their grandmother's basement and shopping them out to bands on tour. A few "chance" encounters led to custom orders from Panic! at the Disco and The Aquabats! By 2006, exposure onstage and on TV allowed the Cipraris to turn their passion into a legitimate business with a proper workspace. The SJC family has grown steadily ever since. "When you buy an SJC kit, you're family," Mike says. "Whether you're a major label artist or a kid buying your first drum set, we want you to know you're just as valuable to our company and entitled to the same level of support."
Identity
SJC gives its artists complete freedom to express themselves visually. From the toothy, three-dimensional grin of Jake Massucco's (Four Year Strong) Jaws kit to the DeLorean graphics on Danny Duncan's (We the Kings) Back to the Future drums, no finish is off the table when you buy SJC Custom. Whether it's a vintage wrap, satiny stain, or custom paint job you're after, SJC's shell artists are committed to coming through on the most difficult requests. And with their iconic shield badges, lugs, and bass heads, you'll be proud to take the stage with your SJC drum kit in tow.
As a bootstrap company ourselves, Sweetwater is proud to stand behind SJC and its mission to provide drummers of all ages and accomplishments with the instruments they need to achieve their dreams.
