The magic behind the Moog sound
In a 2003 interview with Sweetwater, Bob Moog illuminated the secret behind the Moog sound: “I don’t think you can define the Moog sound with any sort of precision. You can say it’s ‘fat,’ it’s ‘warm,’ it’s ‘rich,’ it’s ‘smooth’ — you know, words that describe feelings — visceral feelings — that don’t tell you exactly about the sound. What gives rise to the Moog sound is just hundreds of small details that we’ve taken care of in designing synthesis equipment. And in all, any one of these probably wouldn’t be noticed, but you put several hundred together, and suddenly, you have something that feels right. Sounds right.”
Starting from entrepreneurial roots
Inspired by the hobby electronics culture of the ’40s and ’50s, a young Bob Moog became enamored with the theremin, a uniquely expressive electronic musical instrument that was played without touching. At the age of 19, Moog founded his first company to market and sell his own theremin design. Today, Moog Music is the world’s leading manufacturer for theremins.
Making vintage Moog's available for all
Using traditional wiring methods and old-school production techniques, Moog Music continues to handbuild the iconic modular Moog Synthesizers of the ’60s and ’70s, giving new generations access to the enormous sonic depth and dimension found only in vintage Moog synthesizers.
The power of modular synthesizers
Moog semi-modular synthesizers pair the elegant simplicity of an all-in-one analog synthesizer with the endless reconfigurability of a modular instrument. Explore a patchable sonic playground with one, and then add more to create your own personal electronic music system.
Modernizing the synthesizer with no compromises
Moog Music bridges the gap between the organic experience of a classic analog synthesizer and the high-precision demands of the contemporary digital workflow with modern analog synth designs that can integrate seamlessly into today’s digital environments.
