Avid: A Pioneer of Game-changing Technology
Founded by Bill Warner in 1987, Avid's pioneering development of their computer-based non-linear editing system, the Avid/1, allowed video editors to view, cut, and rearrange film sequences with unprecedented ease. Once the industry caught wind of this technology, it spread like wildfire. By the early 1990s, Avid's digital video tools began to replace Moviolas, Steenbeck and KEM flatbeds, and all other popular film editing devices of the day. The first feature film edited using an Avid product was Let's Kill All the Lawyers in 1992.Another Innovative Technology Takes Off
In 1995, Avid acquired the company Digidesign, who had developed a new type of software - the digital audio workstation. Although computer-based audio already existed by this time, the world had never seen anything like this. Dubbed Pro Tools, this technology changed the face of the recording industry forever, eventually replacing tape-based studios. The first number one single to be produced with Pro Tools was Ricky Martin's "Livin' la Vida Loca" in 1999.Award-winning A/V Solutions
Today, Avid continues to dominate the industry with their powerful software media solutions. Avid's Media Composer is used to create everything from television shows to Hollywood blockbusters. Pro Tools remains the preferred choice for countless composers, musicians, and recording engineers worldwide. There are very few modern movies, television shows, and audio recordings that weren't touched by Avid technology. In fact, Avid's audio and video products have received 14 Emmy Awards, one Grammy Award, and two Oscars!
