Awesome clarity and monster sustain
Had been using GHS Boomers and decided to give these a try, just to experiment. I had been curious about steel strings but was concerned about premature fret wear. These are steel with a nickle coating, so they shouldn't be much harder on frets than regular nickle strings.
When I put them on my SG, I was immediately impressed. I had expected them to be loud and have some difference in tone, but I wasn't expecting them to be so much brighter and with more clarity than the Boomers. Breathed new life into the SG, as they made the neck pickup (which tended to be a bit muddy) really clean up and come to life. Might actually get some use out of the tone knob now!
I was also impressed with the increase in sustain.
There was a noticeable difference in tension with these, compared to the Boomers, but no difficulty in bends as they aren't too stiff. Pinch harmonics are excellent with these as well. I did have to tighten the truss rod and readjust the action, but that's to be expected with really low action when you change brands or string gauge. Easy enough if you do your own work, but you may have to get someone to redo the setup on your guitar if you aren't comfortable adjusting a truss rod.
I would highly recommend the Wylde strings though. having a blast with them!
