Versatile X-Y Stereo

The Zoom XYH-6 Shockmounted XY capsule (included with the H6 Handy Recorder), uses a pair of cardioid condenser capsules to give you a broad range of XY stereo sound. In 90-degree mode, the X-Y field captures a focused stereo that's ideal for distance miking. When you rotate the capsules into 120-degree mode, the XYH-6 provides you with a much broader spread that's perfect for capturing wider ambience, which makes it particularly useful for close miking. Take it from Sweetwater - if you've invested in a compatible Handy Recorder, it makes sense to take full advantage of the versatility offered by interchangeable mic capsules. The Zoom XYH-6 lets you do just that!

Zoom XYH-6 Shockmounted XY Capsule Features at a Glance:
  • Compatible with H5 and H6 Handy Recorders
  • Incorporates two matched unidirectional condenser mics set at a 90-degree angle
  • Captures a solid stereo image across a wide range of applications
  • Shockmounted to minimize vibration and handling noise
  • Ideal for location videography and live broadcast/podcast applications
  • 140dB max SPL for recording in high-volume situations such as rock concerts
Enhance your Handy Recorder setup with the Zoom XYH-6 capsule!

120-degree XY Mic for H5. Largest diaphragm XY mics on any portable recorder!

I had sold my H4n and upgraded to the H5 about a year ago. I wasn't immediately aware how much I was missing the 120-degree setting that I previously had with on the H4n, until I purchased this mic. This is fantastic!I was on the fence for a bit about buying this; feeling it would be a little redundant to purchase the XYH-6 just for it's 120-degree setting (as I have the 90-degree setting covered with the XYH-5). I was holding out for Zoom to release a fixed 120-degree, shock-mounted capsule. Not sure that will ever happen. Although, the Zoom Q8's XY mic is fixed 120-degree (not shock-mounted), but not sold separately...What pushed me to purchase this was when I learned that it is the largest diaphragm XY mics ever found on any portable recorder. That's cool! So, it does offer something more than just an additional degree setting than the XYH-5. The sound is superb; very clean and clear. Even though it is not shock-mounted, the handling noise is low enough for me. The 120-degree setting is fantastic for capturing a wider stereo field. And the results for recording impulse responses for use with convolution reverbs I find to be better than a 90-degree setting. I'm very glad I purchased this and wish I would've picked it up sooner! I agree that Zoom should offer the H5 with a choice of any single capsule. Also, it's important to note that while the XYH-6 is attached to the H5, it still fits inside the case that comes with the H5. I thought that since the capsule is much larger it wouldn't work. But it does fit nicely. I saved this box to keep my XYH-5 or XYH-6 safe in my backpack. Now if only SKB would offer larger H5 cases (like the H6 cases) for us H5 users who own several capsules... I also have the SGH-6. Also a great mic.

Alternative Stereo mic for Zoom 5

Wider Stereo range is always better for me because I am a sound freak. So, this was a no brainer for me.The only down side is that I feel the better mic should come WITH the Zoom 5 itself for the money!
