I Love This Cymbal

I first heard it at the NAMM show in 2020, & was floored. Reached to my rep and got one to use with my Jazz Trio. I am so happy and please with the tone. The Darkness and even overtones really resonates well in low or loud volumes. It is dry but not Jack Dejohnette dry, it is a cymbal that truly speaks!

Stunned

When I asked my sales engineer, Derek Senestraro, to point me towards a cymbal that would "do it all" this is what he recommended. If you don't know, Derek is a very skilled drummer with exceptional taste in gear, so his recommendations are not just factory talking points. About the cymbal; unbelievable response and depth considering it's low price. Some wash, great stick articulation through a wide range of volumes, and sweet, dark overtones. Crashes, rides, swells, it does it all very well. Highly recommended...can't wait to try the 18"!

Give it a listen

This is a surprising cymbal, but I have to disagree with the first review. If I had to use one word, it"d be DARK, if I had 2 words - dark and DRY. It"s darker and drier than MUCH pricier rides that have "dark" in their names. Extremely defined, ride it at the midpoint and it"s dry, clean, not pingy. Ride it at the (very thin) edge and you get a nice wash going. Crash it (even with just a tip) and you get a quick, dark bwoosh... very fast decay. Bell is controlled and dry, not ringy. It"s a funky, dark and ever so slightly dirty ride - just dirty enough to be modern and unique but never clangy. Because it"s so crashable, you could easily use just this ride and a set of hats for a compact setup. Listen to the many sound samples online, they"re pretty accurate. A dark, dry ride that"s crashable (with super short sustain) is my go-to, add in great artisanal looks, b20 bronze, and it"s a no brainer at this price. Definitely holds its own with rides at 2x the price and more. Another winner from Sabian.

Great for the Price

I honestly wasn't expecting what I got. If you breath on it, the cymbal speaks. It gives a brighter (but not bright) dirty sound. It is actually a little hard to ride on because of how easy it is to speak. However, the sound you get out of it is fantastic at all levels. You don't get a lot of stick definition on the low end, but using nylon instead of wood helps a lot. The bell for how small it is, isn't horrible but nothing to write home about. it does exactly what it was made to do and does it really well.

Value+character

Slightly dry and dark lots of wash and sustain so much that I had to put some tape on the underside. Not pingy it has a subtle attack.
It crashes well very thin for a ride. I would almost categorize as a Crash/ride with more emphasis on the ride. Kinda get that Radiohead-reckoner vibe. Good for that kind of rock folk or jazz. Personally would not use this when I need more cut for pop or harder rock etc. overall good value with distinct Tone that's sits well with my other non Sabian cymbals.
