Awesome B3 in a light package

I just got done reading all of the reviews on this keyboard. I do own the xk1c, and the sk1. For the guys that were complaining about a 16 pound keyboard that has a true b3 tone wheel sound, I would recommend investing in a SKB keyboard case. And, I don't know, take better care of your gear? I've had both of mine for several years now, and I have not had one single problem out of either one. For those of you that specified that you are a "traveling musician", That pretty much goes without saying if you are going to invest more than $1000 in the keyboard. this is an awesome keyboard.

Jammin' Hammond

I bought this several years ago & was not disappointed! It sounds like the real big hammond without a lower manual. You can tweak it to a mellow sounding church organ to a roaring funky B3. It has all of the bells & whistles & great percussion effects like a real hammond.I have a foot pedal for the swirling leslie effect & friends of mine thought it was a real b. Putting it through a graphic equalizer which I do gives you anything you want. Lightweight & has a solid feel to it. I had an M3 which was a bear to carry around. This one has all the vibrato effects for jazz, rock, funk, ballad & church. Great sounding organ as in Green Onions! Steve Winwood too! Al Kooper did Green Onions. Everything @ your fingertips. You're in total control!

Nice modern combo organ

I had often kind of wished that someone still made combo organs, like the ones from the 60s. Something that's just an organ, not a keyboard that includes organ sounds along with all sorts of other sounds. The Hammond XK-1c does the job. Despite having 61 keys instead of 49, it's not much wider than a Vox Continental or Jaguar, due to the lack of a control panel to the left of the keys. The top panel layout is pretty simple. Maybe not as simple as some old combo organs, but probably simpler than a Farfisa. But the best part is, it can not only sound like a Vox or Farfisa, but also like a Hammond with a Leslie (or even a Vox or Farfisa with a Leslie, if desired), in a lightweight combo organ package. Yeah, there are other digital organs that do that as well, but they don't have the simple control layout as this one. My favorite part is this: there are presets if you want them, and there is an LCD screen with a menu, if you want to do things that would require opening up a Hammond or Leslie, like modifying the percussion soft/full switch to either not drop the drawbar volume or not drop the percussion volume (yes, this organ allows you to do those mods without cutting or soldering wires), or changing the ramp up & ramp down speeds for the upper and lower Leslie rotors. But if you simply want to just use the drawbars, vibrato, and Leslie controls, and not get into any menu diving, you don't have to; all of the controls are laid out, and regular manual organ operation does not require using any menus or navigation buttons. It's quite a nice little organ, and as lightweight as they get. The Fatar key bed is also very nice. I still prefer the keys on my vintage Hammond, but I'm getting too old and worn out to be hauling it around anymore. As far as complaints, my main complaint is, the end panels are MDF with a wood grain pattern printed on a paper coating. It looks nice when it's new, but it scratches VERY easily, leaving white scratch marks. I had to replace the left one due to a mishap that left it looking terrible, but the replacement, and the right end, are already showing little white ding marks. I'm tempted to make my own solid wood end panels. Another issue I found (and I noticed other complaints about this) is, it comes from the factory with most of the screws a bit loose. Once I tightened all of the screws, it was fine, but it really shouldn't have shipped out with loose screws. The only other thing I guess I could complain about is the ugly maroon knobs. Davies 1900 series knobs or something similar would have looked a lot better. But overall, this organ is a great option for anyone who either wants the lightest, simplest digital Hammond, or who wants a modern combo organ, or both. (Keep in mind though, it's just an organ; there are no piano sounds or string sounds or anything like that.)

Wonderful Versitity

I've had the XK1C for a few years now, and continue to be amazed at the variety of sounds and control! It's a joy to play and explore. There is nothing like a Hammond!! Early in my youth, my grandmother had the popular Hammond Chord Organ, and I became very familiar with its sound (though alas - no Leslie). That organ was given to me after she passed, but eventually it needed lots of service work. The XK1C was a terrific replacement. I use midi output to trigger a Roland D-05 module, and also use a MODX to add other sounds.

Yes!

This is it and it feels right! Great key bed feel and responsiveness, light weight, exceptional Leslie simulation (and I used the real deal for many years - still have it) and the ability to save lots of presets. If you want to add organ to your rig, this is the one.
