A complete and total shred machine

From its basswood body to its maple neck and fingerboard, this EVH Wolfgang Special just screams quality - and that's just the tonewoods! This gorgeous guitar is made for serious playing, with a compound-radius fingerboard, an EVH Floyd Rose bridge and locking nut, and direct-mounted EVH humbuckers. The controls are top-notch, too: you get a handy 3-way pickup selector switch and low-friction volume and tone pots for total control over your tone and volume. All the components come together to make a guitar that looks absolutely stunning and plays even better.

Quartersawn neck for stability and playability

The neck is one of the most important aspects of any instrument, which is why this EVH Wolfgang Special features a quartersawn maple neck. Besides looking good, the straight grain of quartersawn necks is significantly more stable than plain-sawn necks and less likely to warp, twist, or shrink. You'll also love the playability and feel of the compound-radius fretboard on this Wolfgang Special. The fretboard radius goes from 12" at the nut to a comfortable and flat 16" radius on the upper frets.

Floyd Rose tremolo allows for twisting, bending, and huge dive-bombs

First gaining popularity in the 1980s, the Floyd Rose tremolo's locking design keeps your guitar in tune, even if you like to perform extreme pitch pyrotechnics. You can force the whammy bar all the way down to the guitar's body for psychotic dive-bombing. You can pull the whammy bar up to the stratosphere, raising your tone by as much as a seventh. No matter how hard you're shredding, you'll maintain your tuning stability, thanks to the Floyd Rose tremolo's locking design. On top of that, you can easily switch to drop D tuning, courtesy of the Wolfgang Special's D-Tuna tremolo device!

EVH Wolfgang Special Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • Designed by rock legend Eddie Van Halen for ultimate shredability
  • Basswood body and dual EVH pickups deliver resonant tone, sustain, and crunch
  • Compound-radius allows for exceptional speed and comfort
  • EVH-branded Floyd Rose tremolo allows for twisting, bending, and dive-bombing
  • D-Tuna tremolo device gives you instant drop-D tuning
  • Belly cut allows the guitar to fit comfortably against your torso
The EVH Wolfgang Special solidbody electric guitar puts the tonal tool of a legendary guitarist in your hands!

A New Wolfgang

If you have done some research, you should know that this guitar is one of the most engineered guitars on the market today. EVH (Edward Van Helen) is a legend him self and has an extensive and impressive resume as a musician. He takes his experience and growth and many years of experience as musician and explodes with technical innovations in the development of his ultimate guitar. More than Decade later and a few jumps! between companies he lands with fender and bring us a new inception of the Wolfgang. in 2012 the Wolfgang Special was manufactured in Japan and after a tragic flood, operations move to China. In the process EVH did not changed the price tag which brought discontent among fans. Later in late 2014 EVH moved operations to Mexico and dropped the price tag from $1349.00 to $999.99. This made the Wolfgang Special affordable but not without some compromises. No case, no stainless steel frets and not sure yet, but possibly no graphite reinforcement of the neck. I have not find anything to support it or deny it. What you get instead are a carve top (originally flat), a quarter saw neck and jumbo frets. The quarter saw neck is beautiful and straight. The Wolfgang Special while budget minded is an incredible guitar, light, comfortable, versatile and fast. The Wolfgang pick up is overwound. It does best on a tube amp. This pick ups are very responsive to the pick attack. The low friction volume pot works great, but takes some getting use to it. It would not be a Van Helen guitar without and Floyd Rose and a D-Tuna, both included as part of the package. My Wolfgang came well set, sweetwater always does a great job. The craftsmanship in my guitar is superb. The paint job is flawless and the frets are well detailed with no sharp ages. The neck feels smooth and while EVH claims it is a oil rub finish it actually feels unfinished. Warning: clean your hands before playing. My guitar came without the Floyd Rose tremolo bar and Allen wrenches but Josh Estock did a fantastic job in making sure I get them. This guitar can do anything with the right amp. While it is made to rock and rock hard, it cleans up well. it all comes to what you are in to. Basically this guitar is amazing and delivers very well. It is my opinion that it is not a one trick pony. it can do much more. Some may disagree, but I recommend you test drive it and get a good feel for it. I also believe this guitar is really responsive to your pick attack and will overdrive your tubes well. It is agronomical, light and comfortable. I think the most likely improvement you can do is replacing the strap buttons for strap locks. Get the case it is a jewel and deserves to be treasure. I would love to see the stainless steel frets back on the Wolfgang Special. This can easily become my go to guitar.
