Excellent condenser headset mic for VP-770, or other vocoders!

The Shure WH20 is an excellent small condenser headset mic that is PERFECT for my Roland VP-770 Vocal & Ensemble keyboard. A dynamic mic will not work as the signal is too weak and needs a boost by using a condenser mic. I'm am totally happy with the quality and performance of the Shure WH20. I suppose it will work with any vocoder which supplies phantom power, as well as with any voice recognition software you're using such as Nuance's Dragon Naturally Speaking.

    rugged dynamic for noisy environment

The WH20 is a dynamic microphone (another reviewer mistakenly says that it is a condenser which requires phantom power) designed to provide intelligible speech (not high-fidelity) in a noisy environment. The element is mounted on a flexible gooseneck. For the best signal-to-noise ratio, the front of the element should be adjusted to stand about a finger-width from the lips, over to the side of the mouth. The element is comparable to the element used on the Shure headsets. It is designed for communication, as opposed to performance or recording. The behind-the-ear hooks at first feel a bit strange, but the headset is usable with eyeglasses. As a dynamic, the output is a bit on the low side, but adequate. The cord of the XLR model is a bit shorter than might be desired. The WH20 combined with a Tascam DR-40 (which has XLR inputs) is good and inexpensive solution for hands-free applications such as dictation while driving.
