Broadening my abilities and horizons! A luscious sound and an amazing visual experience!
I haven't used anything from VSL since my SoundBlaster came with the tools for changing sound fonts and stuff back in like 2000. But, when I saw that these plugins were on sale for a very deep discount, and I really needed plugins to up my 5.1 mastering game, well, it seemed like a perfect fit. And, it has been! These plugins are amazing, and there are so many to choose from, anything you need to add your polish, position and luster are here. The presets that are included with the Pro bundle are amazing and first class all the way, and since the license includes the standard edition of these plugins as well giving you lots of options in terms of CPU load, tweak ability, DAW host etc. For example, you may want the Pro Surround Balancer on your master outs but then just the simpler non-pro reverb tools on a single instrument or vocal track, helping to keep your cycles in use under control for those larger projects.
Whether you are mixing/mastering or engineering the classical and orchestral genres, or if you're grinding and thrashing some metal, these plugins are sure to please at any point of your creative process, from start to master. Enjoy them...I certainly have! As for the visual aspects, these plugins are AMAZING to look at, the color scheme is so comforting and "professional" I feel like I'm at a million dollar console with these, and they are SO VERY RESPONSIVE, I'd wager to say all the analyzers you can look at, are at what seems to be zero-latency and are at full throttle video wise, they look properly accelerated for OPENGL that is; because man, they are flying at like a billion FPS under my accelerated host (Gig Performer 4 in OpenGL mode), so amazing and responsive. Please excuse the hiccups/stutter portions, that's my PC being dumb and is NOT a fault of the plugin or host, more my Windows installation.
PS> DO NOT FORGET YOU NEED A VIENNA USB eLICENSER KEY DONGLE to turn these on, if you don't have one you can buy one here on the site, look at the bottom of the item page under related items, search for elicenser, or talk to your Sweetwater Rep about it. They're not expensive, but an additional cost/necessity nonetheless in today's world I suppose. It's not my cup of tea, but I understand they need to protect their products.
It's a learning curve for sure, but worth it.
Back in late summer of 2012 my cousin took one of my viola concertos and ran it through the normal Vienna Suite plug-ins (he had a trial version) and it really brought the music to life. Fast-forwarding to November of 2016 I bought the Pro Edition of Vienna Suite after saving up and I couldn't believe how much better the Pro Edition was than the normal version. The price may be steep but there is a good reason why, these plug-ins are top of the line bar-none. Word of caution though, do not use this with Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 because the entire program will crash; Suite Pro is best used with Ensemble Pro 6. I'm still learning more about the different plug-ins and the numerous things I can do to my music with them, but that's fine because I learn something new every time I use it. Here's what I like about Suite Pro:
1. Very eye appealing.
2. Easy to use.
3. Awesome presets.
4. So much mixing diversity.
5. Brings life into the music (especially with Exciter Pro).
6. For how much it is, worth every penny.
I cannot think of a single draw-back unless one uses it with Ensemble Pro 5. If I could imitate Simon's voice from "American Idol", I'd say, "It's a YES from me".
