Boutique-style Vintage Tube Tone

The Rivera Venus 3 combo guitar amplifier takes you on a tour of classic American tube amp tone. It delivers all of the sonic sweetness that made amps of the '60s and '70s legendary, plus a bag of tricks only made possible by modern circuit design. At the heart of the Venus 3, there's a standard combination of 12AX7 and 6V6 tubes pushing a 12" Celestion G12 Heritage 30 speaker. You couldn't ask for a more classic American tube amp sound! On top of that, there's a real Accutronics 3-spring reverb, advanced tone-shaping controls, a half-power vintage mode, and many other cool extras built into the Rivera Venus 3 combo amp.

Rivera Venus 3 Tube Combo Guitar Amplifier at a Glance:

All the tone-shaping tools you need onboard

Fueled by a combination of 12AX7 preamp tubes and 6V6 power amp tubes, the Rivera Venus 3 simply screams vintage American boutique tone. But despite its tastefully retro sound, the Venus 3 packs more than a few chic modern features you're bound to enjoy. For instance, there's a handy footswitchable gain boost you can dial in to perfection, letting you pull out that extra umph whenever you need it. A special middle pull notch lets you choose between distinctly more tweedy and Blackface-esque tones. And when you don't need the full 15 watts, flip the vintage switch and drop down to just seven watts, keeping the tone and dynamics you dig but at a significantly lower volume.

Sweeten your tone with classic spring reverb

Few people understand spring reverb the way that the engineers at Accutronics do, and it's one of their remarkable reverb units that lets you dial in lush and dimensional guitar tone right inside your Rivera Venus 3 combo amp. This 3-spring reverb features a long and remarkably vibrant decay, and when you kick up the Venus 3's presence control you can easily create bright and brilliant clean tones with the perfect touch of shimmer.

Advanced I/O options for flexible configurations

Loaded with all of the useful connections you need, the Rivera Venus 3 lets you configure your guitar rig any way you like. For starters, the Venus 3 makes direct recording easy by providing you with a line-level output right from the power amp section, which lets you capture the most important parts of its tone without ever touching a mic. On top of that, the Venus 3's I/O includes both a preamp output and a power amp input, which lets you patch in effects, tap off the preamp, or slave another amp altogether.

Very versatile, meets my needs

I was looking for a versatile amp for my home setup that could deliver both clean and classic American amp sounds in a small physical format, and also include an effects loop. I own multiple guitars, humbuckers and single-coil, and have been able to find the tones I want with the Venus 3. I found I wasn't able to get the tone I wanted for rock/crunch apps at reasonable volumes (probably true for most tube amps), and later decided to buy a Rivera RockCrusher attenuator (separately reviewed). Even at 15W or 7W, the amp in its sweet spot is too loud for where I live (nice problem to have I suppose). I don't play much high-gain music at this time, and don't have an opinion on what the amp can do in this genre. I can find great tones for clean, medium-gain rock/crunch, blues, jazz, and rockabilly with my Les Pauls, ES-335, Tele, Strat, Gretsch, and amplified acoustic guitars. The amp is very versatile, and I find the 3-range EQ and mid notch functions provide a wide range of choices. The blackface midrange notch setting has a particularly appealing glassy sound. After many months, I am still finding new ways to get different sounds from this amp. Each knob really does affect the sound significantly, so be prepared to sit and tinker for hours! So far I prefer the 15W mode over the 7W, but may yet find great sounds in 7W mode. I also don't turn the pre-amp gain up too much typically, favoring power-amp saturation, but that is my preference. This is a single-channel amp, and gigging musicians may prefer the convenience of a multi-channel model. I continue to receive great advice and support from Zach Bailey, who steered me to this particular amp after a lot of discussion on my needs.
