Intense Vocal Effects Right Under Your Foot

With TC Helicon's VoiceTone X1, vocalists can have fun with stompboxes, just like guitarists have been doing all along. VoiceTone X1 gives you tinny megaphones, telephonics, amp effects, and intense vocal distortion, right under your foot (or at your fingertips, with TC's optional MP-75 mic). Although it fits the form factor, the "stompbox" moniker is actually misleading: as a member of TC Helicon's VoiceTone lineup, VoiceTone X1 is strictly studio-grade - complete with a clean, quiet mic preamp and studio-quality A/D conversion. Vocal distortion used to be something you wanted to avoid. Not any more.

You can turn it down but ...

Yeah the pre-set volume is WAY too loud when you engage the pedal. It can be lowered by holding the foot switch down while turning the drive to the left at the same time. If the drive already is left - turn it all the way right then hold the foot switch down then turn the drive knob left. I got it to the same volume as the mic without the effect engaged. The problem is when you power off it goes back to the default setting (way too loud) and you have to go through it all again every time you power it up. I like the effects and would use it more if it wasn't so much trouble. Solid construction for sure.

The TC-Helicon VoiceTone X1 Squealathon!!!

I wish I had of read these reviews before I bought this pedal!!! Sounded like every thing I wanted. Great through a home studio set up like the review clips display but put it through a p.a. and well it just about blew my head off and sent my whippett running and that was at a cautious volume. What a bummer!!! Should be a straight forward concept-can't wait until someone gets it right for live use.

Agree with the prior review

Its just not predictable and definitely tends to create massive feedback and volume is completely unpredictable. Great idea...bad pedal...

A must buy... If feedback is your interest!

This pedal distorts your voice alright! It makes you sound like ear piercing feedback! I hooked up the pedal to my amp, started singing, and immediately stopped when the feedback started. I tried every single type of feedback, with every combination of mic gain, mic volume, drive, and filter but could not get the feedback to stop. I even pointed my amp away from me and moved it 10 feet away and the distortion was still unbelievable. Plus, when the pedal is on, the volume of your vocals shoots through the roof! This would be a sound-man's worst nightmare during a live performance. There is no way this product would be usable during a show. DO NOT BUY!
