Massive. The Vienna Symphonic Library Vienna Dimension Strings puts a million string samples under your baton. Sporting over 300,000 violin samples alone, this library is the most ambitious production in VSL's history. It's not only the staggering amount of incredible-sounding content that makes this collection special - it's also the unprecedented control you get. Individual microphones for each player let you access each voice individually, and each string of every instrument is recorded in its full range - giving you a stunning array of sonic and performing options. For the ultimate in virtual strings, you need Vienna Dimension Strings.

Vienna Symphonic Library Dimension Strings Features at a Glance:
  • Imperfection is your key to jaw-dropping realism
  • You get access to each individual voice
  • Creating your signature string sound
Imperfection is your key to jaw-dropping realism

Imperfection - really? You bet. Recently, sample libraries have been getting increasingly "perfect," (and, dare we say, a tad sterile sounding). Enter your new best friend: imperfection. To attain a jaw-dropping level of realism, VSL captured the real-world imperfections in timing, dynamics, timbre, intensity, vibrato, intonation, bowing - and more - exhibited by real string players. The resulting realism is staggering. It's truly stunning what a little "imperfection" can do for your music!

You get access to each individual voice

The 24 string players recorded for Vienna Dimension Strings were captured in homogenous groupings - eight violins, six violas, six cellos, and four double basses, with all the interaction and minute imperfections of a live performance. The kicker is that VSL used individual mics on each player, giving you to access each voice individually. This opens up a ginormous sonic candy store that's certain to spark your creativity.

Creating your signature string sound

For Vienna Dimension Strings, VSL even recorded each string of every instrument in its full range - roughly one octave plus a fifth. The included presets let you decide whether the musicians will play on all strings - with a change to the next string in fifth intervals - or force them to play on a particular string. You can even omit open strings. With Vienna Dimension Strings, nailing your "signature" string sound has never been easier!

Well Worth the Price

Okay, where to begin. In the world of finite amount of choices for strings, and for orchestral instruments you can easily empty the pocketbook finding the right sounds/samples to create your sound. But I can now tell you from experience that these samples are the end all. The vast amount of articulations are amazing!!! And as the title states well worth the price. Yes they are a bit pricey but I have found nothing sounding better. You can actually hear the wood of the instruments vibrate and with the extra bits for noises, it doesn't get better! Please take a closer look at these as a purchase. VSL has all different type for all different styles of music. I highly recommend these and am going to make many more Vienna purchases. Now with that out of the way, on to usage and tools to go with it. The VE Pro and VI Pro are a must to pull every last detail out of the samples. These two items cannot be more stressed as a MUST HAVE toolset. With the Humanization feature you can tweak each and every player and or desk/group to sound absolutely real. I myself score using Sibelius and every sample is detailed and chronicled in the VSL support site and if it is not in the playback dictionary, you can certainly add it yourself. The Customer service at Vienna is fantastic and response times are very good.Sweetwater has the best prices and options for purchase and I would highly recommend to everyone, GET THESE SAMPLES!!!

Vienna Dimension Strings

I love it.......The Vienna stuff is really pricey. The gooey interface isn't as bells n whistles 'purty' as some of the other player's interfaces... BUT... since I obtained it for the samples and the playability which it comes with in spades.. hand of fist..... truely 'OMG'.... I'm really happy with this purchase. Thanks Sweetwater

A dimension of Strings

At first glance this did not seem like much. However, getting into the details really changed my mind. The expressiveness and articulations that are available in this library are massive. Being able to split your violin section up is a massive helper when it comes to working out more realistic mock-ups. Another huge benefit is is splitting those instruments as played. Again, another great help. Also, the humanize function is welcomed and appreciated. It really does help add a sense of realism. Though currently this product does not contain all the sections yet, as they are released this will become a more and more important part in my rig.

VSL Dimension Strings

I have to say, I am incredibly impressed with this library. I've been using VSL products for almost a year now, I have to say this is one of the best. While there may not be as many articulations as the Chamber Strings or the Solo Strings, the customization is almost limitless. I was able to use a couple of the soloed violins in a recent project, and they sounded absolutely fantastic by themselves. While there is a bit of bleeding when using a solo violin, when it's played with ensemble, it's hardly noticeable. The other benefit I found is that I am able to "audition" 8 individual players when I'm looking for a small solo for a soloist. Some samples sounded better than others, and that's the beauty of it all: imperfection. When playing the violins as the ensemble, the little imperfections stand out as a good thing, giving it a new level of realism. I was able to tweak each individual player to my liking, and with VI Pro, the humanization adds a whole new level. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking to expand their sample library, or even take their first step. The learning curve is a bit tricky at first, but it can be learned within a short amount of time.

Very Nice Small Sound

I've tended to shy away from Vienna because of the complexity and steep learning curve, but their most recent plugin player software makes a lot of sense, is fairly intuitive, and very powerful. The sounds in this collection are exactly what I needed - small and intimate with a wide range. I have large sounding collections that I love (Hollywood strings), but sometimes they are just too big, particularly when one writes divisi and delicate parts. These strings really sound great for a smaller section, and perhaps just as importantly allow you to create variations in the performances within the sections. Each desk on the same part can have different attacks, tuning variations etc. This really adds realism while retaining a nice warm intimate sound. The only caution is that you must take the time to really dig into the interface to get the true potential of the library. It's deep with a fair learning curve, but worth it particularly if you write real string arrangements that benefit from intimacy and detail
