I Love This Mic!

By Jedediah from Wichita, KS on December 4, 2023 Music Background: Hobbyist

I don't plan on throwing this around, so I can't attest for it's ruggedness when compared to the Sm58, but soundwise, I absolutely adore the Se V7.

It's a little brighter than my "non-super cardioid" sm58, but it has an umph to it that I've been looking for.

Karaoke Shootout Winner

By Richard Lavin from BLUE JAY, CA on September 19, 2023

I tested my new sE-V7 by taking it to my local Karaoke club where we put it on a stand next to a Shure M58. Various singers used it over the evening; others used the Shure. At the end, I asked people what they thought, and the concensus was the sE-V7 was more natural sounding, like we were listening to a singer in a small room with no mic at all. Also, and I concur on this, one vocalist said she felt she had greater control of tone and volume with the sE-V7. This was, of course, an unscientific comparison between my new mike and the KJ's old M58, but I thought it was encouraging. It's a keeper.

sE V7 just what I needed.

By Rich Teter from Connecticut on June 27, 2023 Music Background: long time band guy covers originals blah blah blah...now a solo acoustic doink.

I called Bryan Campbell my guy at Sweetwater and told him the troubles I had with microphones- He said " I can get you a great mic ." Then recommended the sE V7. For it's responsiveness clarity and better-than-price-range quality. He was right on all of it. It is perfect for me as I move around the mic a bit while singing- It stays strong even when outside it normal sphere. I had SM 58s but this mic is my new favorite. I play acoustic solo gigs and often the din in the venue is -as to be expected. Now I can hear over that without using massive volume. My only negative is that I am not any better of a singer ...oy. Some things are beyond technology. RT

sE V7

By jimmy martin from Bellville, TX on April 21, 2023 Music Background: Country music vocalist

Great mic. After decades of using the old standard SM58 and trying e935,835.beta87.Blue encore,beta58,super55 the sE V7 comes out of my gig bag 95% of the time now. Such a clean sound with the just right amount of brightness. I got so many compliments after the 1st time using this mic. It's a keeper for sure at such an affordable price. Shout out to my sales engineer Matthew Klopfenstein for suggesting this mic after I was considering another brand.

A great mic!

Works for me and very good for the price

By Jack from tropical on April 4, 2023 Music Background: guitar player & restaurant entertainer

I'm no expert on mics, don't sing much, use a talk mic. Some customer wants to sing - my talk mic gets drafted. I needed a talk mic that wouldn't break the bank and wouldn't be embarrassing - this is it! The sound is just way better than I would have expected at this very affordable price, even I can notice that, and so the reviews that said it was good have not lied. The beveled collar keeps it from rolling away, great design detail!

Great Live Mic!

By Samuel Valla from NEW LONDON, WI on November 17, 2022 Music Background: Pro Musician (Drums/Vocals)

As someone who does live sound and sings in different bands I've been extremely impressed with the V7. If you're using a SM58 (which I've used many times aswell and still like) you might want to concider one of these. Their clarity and quality of sound is fantastic and worth checking out!

sE Mic - V7

By Bob Nasella from Melrose, MA on September 29, 2022 Music Background: Professional musician

These are great mic's for live bands. The supercardiod is terrific at reducing bleed so you get a much cleaner mix in your main speakers. Our band finds these mic's to be warmer than the Shure Beta in direct comparison. They look great, sound great, and are built like a tank. Highly recommend.

Great mic

By Lee Weaver from ATX on September 21, 2022 Music Background: Love Reinforcement, Studio Engineer

Got a call to mix a vocal dominant band for three days. I decided to carry my own mics and production to make life a little easier.
I have never been disappointed when buying Se, and this mic continues my confidence in Se.
The singers loved them and they are so easy to dial in.

Great mic!

By Sweetwater Customer on September 20, 2022

There's nothing not to like about this mic. I use it to sing with backing tracks and/or solo acoustic guitar played through a Fishman Artist amp. To my ear it has a very crisp and clear sound. I really like the internal wind screen and the way you can emphasize the bass tones by moving the mic closer or further away.

sE Electronics V7 Mic

By Robert from Leander, Texas on May 26, 2022 Music Background: Semi pro that has played in rock and country bands but now I donate my time as a worship leader serving God and love every minute of it.

I've been paying music for 40 plus years and have been purchasing equipment from Sweetwater for the past 6 years. They are the best! Ben Stokes has been my main go to rep and has always been a great help in everything I've purchased and/or returned. I've never had a problem with Sweetwater and will continue to use them as long as I am able to play music. The V7 mic is a great vocal replacement mic to the 58's I've been using forever. It seems to be clearer than the 58's. I highly recommend them.

Thanks for all your help throughout the years, Ben.

Great mic for baritone/bass voices!

By John Phillips from San Ramon California on March 30, 2022 Music Background: Serious long term musician

I bought this mic on the recommendation of Riley Koenemann. After intense nagging by my band mates, I decided to take up singing to add a low voice to the harmonies. I am familiar with most of the popular mics and didn't like the boomy, muddled sound in my lower range they produced. This mic does not have that characteristic. If you sing low, give it a try. It was just the ticket for me.

Incredible performance and value

By Jon V from Los angeles on January 31, 2022 Music Background: Studio and live sound company owner

I've owned all kinds of vocal mics, sennheisers, telefunkens, shures, EV, rode, Audix, AKG. The v7 stands in the top tier of live vocal microphones and will make you start using your sm58 for a hammer. It's that good.

sE Electronics V7 mic is a fantastic buy

By Tim Kuykendall from Asheville, NC on December 7, 2021

The sE Electronics V7 microphone is a fantastic buy-- capable of handling the rigors of the road, sensitive enough to add a certain distinctiveness to each voice you mic. We have used it as a weekly workhorse for a free-for-all style open mic as well as a much appreciated back-up for a nationally-known singer/songwriter and recording artist. Well put together, solid feel, and eye-catching looks. I can't say enough good things about this mic.

My new favorite mic

By Jeremy from Ohio on July 16, 2021 Music Background: Bass, Guitar, Sound Engineer

I bought this mic to replace a Shure Beta58a that we had lost. After hearing the vocals from my lead singer during the first practice I immediately ordered a second one for BGV and speaking. This mic sounds almost perfect with no EQ, has almost no handling noise, and almost no proximity effect what so ever. Normally, I hate the sound of mic voice in the PA, but with this mic it was actually enjoyable to hear myself through the mains.

Not what I expected!

By Terry Staton from Missouri on June 24, 2021 Music Background: 30 years of on stage entertainment

I had vaguely heard of this brand. It was on the suggestion of a Sweetwater representative that I order these mics. Our next concert we tried the mics. I was totally blown away! The clarity was supurb, the sound was spot on! After using other top name mics for years, this was by far the best sounding mic I have ever used! Thanks Sweetwater!

It has a little more finesse somehow than the Shure SM58

By Cristian from San Antonio, TX on May 1, 2021 Music Background: Serious Amateur.

I only own and ever used two Shure SM57s and one 58 before so my experience was limited.
I decided to get a whole new set from Se at the midrange of their price, because I looked at the ranges and they were slightly better than Shure, and I don't gig so I have no issues related to transport or manipulation; nobody else touches my equipment.
I record through a Focusrite console and use Logic Pro.
Just changing the microphones and recording the same parts in the same way I can notice a difference, mainly in the midrange that sounds rounder and more poised, and I may in the high range, but it may be me.
If you're careful with your equipment, and you don't have to use a bullet proof microphone for some reason, I think this is superior. Also: the beveled ring is gold, if you have the microphone around just for ideas and have it laying in the table.
One other thing I noticed: the Se its better rejecting sides than the SM58.

Voice Rocket!!

By Kaige on April 1, 2021 Music Background: Pro

There's not a ton of killer mic options in this price range but this has it all! The V7 looks great, it's built tough and it punches well above its weight in sound. Honest , powerful and beautiful!

The best mistake I ever made

By Roy C from Baltimore MD on March 30, 2021

I purchased this mic from sweet water recently thinking it was the vX7 model but I ordered the v7 which is more for vocal use instead of instruments. One of my favorite engineer/mixers using an se v7x on their snare so I thought I'd try it. When the mic arrived I immediately hooked it up and tried it on the drum tracking of a new song I'm working on and it was the sound I have been looking for with my snare. Detailed, crisp, plenty of bottom end and it just sounded more punchy and 3D over the sm57 top mic I had been using. Running this through the warm audio wa73eq sounds fantastic. When I went to review the mic, only then did I realize that there was a X version. I feel absolutely no need to try the vX7 with this sounding so amazing. This is my new go to snare top mic!

Hot Mic!

By J Alexander from Baxley Georgia on December 28, 2020 Music Background: Rock-N-4-Jesus

Usually like the SM57 as a hot vocal mic for the studio and have used the Beta 58A at church and really like both but wanted to try something different for home studio with better looks as this is kind of a gathering place of fellow musicians. Being honest I purchased this mic for the looks and the price point per the specs compared to the Sure mics previously mentioned. Glad I did!! Was expecting a good equal but it is actually better ran to the Bose L1 Model 2 with Tone Match set on SM58. If you are looking for a "hot" mic that can cut through the mix the sE Electronics V7 is it. Almost forgot, I like the flat grill design on top when playing guitar while singing. This makes it easy for the player to know they are aligned correctly with the mic if the have stepped off for a lead break or what not and they can get back on the mic easily by feel with out having to look as when using a full round grill. Simple things make a difference! J

Best Mic under $200

By Sweetwater Customer on April 5, 2020 Music Background: Worship leader

I absolutely love this mic! I use the wireless capsule version of this mic when I perform live and I loved it from the first time I used it!

When it came to the studio, I was using a MXL 990 condenser mic! It is good mic, but it didn't bring everything in my vocal the way that I wanted! So I wanted an upgrade but being on a budget! The SE V7 is the best mic you will find for under $200! Love it so much and it will be in my arsenal of mics for years to come! Definitely recommend!

Fantastic mic for the money

By Terry Monroe from Portage WI on March 18, 2020 Music Background: Working musician for over 35 years.

I have played in bands and always have owned the PA systems, mics etc. This little gem is really a nice addition for anyone. It is great for vocals and instruments as well. I use it for my vocal mic and I love how it is so directional to the top of the mic. It cancels out noise from the sides very well. You won't be dissatisfied at all.

Serious upgrade from the SM58

By Jeff Van Dyke on February 4, 2020 Music Background: Almost 30 years of singing

Like so many others out there, my go to was the SM58. That has now forever changed with the V7. This mic has a much clearer, and more crisp/powerful sound. Most impressive is the ability to gain without feedback. As others have stated, it is difficult to get feedback, unless you are doing something stupid at the time.

Thanks to rep Jacob for suggesting this purchase... VERY PLEASED! Don't hesitate...pull the trigger you too will be very pleased!

WOW! 5 STARS ALL THE WAY

By Douglas Ostarch from New York on December 24, 2019 Music Background: Over 30 years in the Audio field from ENG, Corporate Installations, FOH/Touring and House

I bought this as a all around everyday microphone in place of the Shure SM58! They have served us well and looking the part. I do FOH and with all the acts that come through the door, the variation from The Spoken Word, Comedy, Acoustic Acts and Full Back Line Driving Bands. At SLBOH we are well stocked with Shure SM58's and Beta 58's so I know what we have, their sound and they are great microphones. Been around for decades but I wanted to try something else for myself. Heard great things about SE Electronics from Chris Arnold of Sweetwater and SE V7 proves him and them all true.

This microphone wowed me out of the box, It had crisp clear vocals that cut through the mix with little effort and minimal EQ. Simple fine tuning and it was good to go. Voices were smooth and warm with excellent clarity and not harsh or abrasive.

Had great gain before feedback and good noise rejection on stage live. Drummer singing on a Beta 56 kept asking me to pull back the the other background singer on the SE V7 in her drum wedge. The SE V7 cut through the mix very well.

I really loved the way this mic performed and sounded. Very natural in the house and monitors with great clarity. Really cut through the mix in the house and did a super job in the monitors. The artists loved this microphone and it makes my job easy. This is a microphone that should be in every mic locker. Its modest price... makes it affordable but what you get is a excellent microphone that goes far beyond that!

I have numerous microphones for many different applications and that is the purpose of a mic locker. Now if I had only 1 mic to buy and deliver the most bang for the buck it is hands down the SE Electronics V7! In My Opinion it is the most dominant dynamic microphone in the $ range and sounds great on vocals. It would also work well on instruments, guitar cabinets and drums like a SM57 does. The best choice is to use a SE Electronics V7x for instruments and the SE Electronics V7 for the vocals. Bottom line, this is a great microphone and the price makes it a sure winner in its class!

Precision beyond belief

By Paul Boliver from Lowville, New York on November 28, 2019 Music Background: Singer and Guitarist

If you use a harmonizing processor, you HAVE to get this mic! I am a singer / guitarist. I lead a church worship team and occasionally play solo gigs. I began using a Boss V8 vocal and acoustic guitar processor to enhance what I was capable of performing when on stage. The problem I started having was that when I would use the harmony feature on this pedal, I would hear strange warble in my vocals as well as with my guitar. The harmonies seamed to get confused and off key, while the guitar sound would have an out of tune twelve-string sound. It was distracting and confusing. What I found was that the mics I was using were picking up way too much "ambient" noise. The standard cardioid mics that I loved, could not keep my voice and guitar separated and isolated enough to keep the processor from trying to harmonize everything it was hearing. This mic fixed the problem and even surpassed my expectations! Its precision in the way it rejects off axis sound is simply amazing! When I first hooked it up and began playing, the first thing I noticed was that I was actually able to see the difference by watching the meter on the sound board. No longer did my guitar and vocals look like a stereo signal. Then sonically, I was blown away! My preconception was that super cardioid mics would sound thin and that I would have to remain perfectly still and centered on the mic. While I have to keep where I'm directing my voice in mind, this mic is remarkably forgiving and its tone is second to none. I went from having to have huge dips and peaks in the eq to having an almost straight line and even having to roll back the low end just a bit. Its naturally neutral eq is perfect and allows you to actually eq your voice and not have to compensate for the mics inadequacy. As soon as I switched on the harmonizor, everything fell into place. No more warble or strange second guitar overtones. Just the sound of my voice being processed. It was absolutely perfect! I am so glad I went with this mic!

Great Microphone for a great price!

I own/use several microphones in the 90-120 dollar range (EV, Shure, Samson)

I like this one the best; my vocals sound crisp and no feedback issues. Great sensitivity.

My Sales Engineer, Chris Lewis, recommended this microphone; as usual, his expert advice was spot on. Thanks Chris!

Perfect for podcasting

Brilliant

By Mike Pulice from Temecula, CA on June 23, 2019

So after purchasing the MC1 capsule for my Shure wireless setup, I decided to get the wired counterpart for when I practice at home or for gigs that refuse to use my wireless rig (silly sound guys).

Anyway, I plugged it in and decided not to mess with any of my channel settings or anything just to see how it felt against my other mics. AT first, I was meh and unimpressed. So I soloed and hit the gain adjustment and it came to life big time. Still no feedback. I also noticed vs my other wired mics OM5 and an EV I was able to get some high and mid back into the mix without it being offensive.

If I add up performance along with price point this mic is ridiculous!! Thank you, Chris Goldbach, for giving me the lowdown on these V7s!!

sE V7

By Mike Shaffer from Walker, WV on May 24, 2019 Music Background: Podcaster

Already having reviewed this, I'd like to make an update: After a bit of time in post, and equalizing this mic alongside the Tascam DR-40 to the very same specifications, they both sound exactly the same. I'm blown away! The V7, with only a bit of vocal boost, matches exactly, to my ears, the output of the onboard mics of the Tascam. For my podcasts, I've decided to record with both the V7 and the Tascam, just to be sure of getting a clean recording. Once again, as an amateur, I'm very happy with the V7. I can only imagine what a pro could do with it. Thanks, Sweetwater, for your prompt and courteous service! If you're a podcaster, it's my recommendation that you look no further than the sE V7 microphone.

I'm in Love!

By Mike Shaffer from Walker, WV on May 9, 2019 Music Background: Podcaster

This microphone is phenomenal! My sometimes heavy, sometimes sibilant voice is handled beautifully! I wanted a vocal microphone which sounded good with just a simple boost in post, and this is it!

Some background: I let myself be talked into the reviews of Behringer's XM8500. People said they'd stored away their 58s in favor of it. Why, I asked myself, would I pay $... for a microphone many say is either bested or equaled by the... XM8500? Needless to say, and am speaking for myself, I should've listened to the counsel I'd received on buying the best microphone I could. This isn't a slam of the XM8500; it's just that it isn't fit for my voice. The hours spent in post trying to get some sort of pleasing sound out of it is proof of that.

One test with the V7 has proved to me that THIS microphone is now my go-to for everything. As an amateur podcaster with a baritone voice, I can truly say that this microphone is a revelation. I'm so glad for the many reviews made of this microphone, and am so glad to have it. Trust me, if you've been fighting with sibilance and overbearing muddiness, get an sE V7 and live a simpler life. I'm so happy, I almost can't stand it.

Better than expected. The V7 just works!

By Joshua J from NJ on February 6, 2019

They are not lying when they say this Mircrophone is way better than the SM58! For studio or on-stage vocals there is no comparison. It sounds cleaner and works so well with mixing with live instruments. I have many SM58's and I compared them. The V7 just sounds much vibrant on vocals. I bought 10 more because ever since I introduced these microphone to the people. They requested it as a daily driver moving forward. The SM's just became backup microphones for us.

Best stage mic so far

By Steve from Los Angels on April 16, 2018 Music Background: Worship Leader / Concert sound engineer /Graduate

After years of happy SM-58"s, 57"s, OM-2"s and OM-7"s usage, I"m blown away with this V7 mic. I ordered 6 of these. I do sound in an abusing church environment and also on the road, even do gigs outdoors (once in the rain!), and so far V7 is working better than expected. The freq range, the low-cuts, the brilliance, and the very clear highs is amazing. Now my problem is the singers addicted to SM-58"s now can"t stand it! So I ordered another 5 V7"s.

This was the perfect companion for my vocal stye Ben Porter knows my style well after buying from him over the last 6 years. I was having to nearly eat my SM 58 to get enough out of it. I can back off to about 6 inches from the V7, which is right in my comfort zone.

Awesome Full Frequency Microphone

By Robert Grajeda from CA on October 4, 2017 Music Background: Been playing in bands since 1970.

This sE V7 mike is a winner! It has a fullbodied wide frequency range, projects over the band without feedback when we are doing a rave up and really captures my vocal's nuances when singing ballads. This microphone performs on a par with microphones in the $150 to $200 range. A solid value! Highly recommended!

One Great Mic!

By Scott from Flagstaff, AZ on August 4, 2017 Music Background: Singer Songwriter almost five decades

Based on Tom Koch's recommendation, plus my experience using a friend's sE V7s, I bought a couple. And, they are great! I've used them inside and outside, and these vocal mics perform at the highest level. Very pleased.

Surprisingly Good

By Robert W. from NC on March 13, 2017 Music Background: 20+ years performing live

Wasn't sure what I would get when I purchased this mic, but let me tell you, you will not be disappointed. I have used this mic with both male and female voices with great... unbelievable performance and tone. I use this mic mostly for live situations, and you can get a serious amount of volume before feedback. I have replaced my beta 58's for these. Honestly, this mic's value to perform is really hard to beat. If you need a solid, good sounding and quiet mic that out performs more expensive mic's, the sE V7 is the way to good.

Love this mic

By David from New England on November 23, 2016 Music Background: Keyboard player/songwriter

Using this as my vocal mic. I am blown away by the clarity and reproduction of nuances in my singing.

On mine, the under-material on the grill is a very dark red. not the bright red that appears in the photo. So it's visually quiet on stage.

According to the specs, it is half a db hotter than an SM58 so it will produce minimal surprises at the desk, other than how much nicer it sounds, when you sub it in. No need to swap the clip over either.

I'm a baritone, but I think this would work for anybody given that it is very neutral sounding. Tried it on flute as well and that sounded very nice too, and no trouble with blast. So there would be no problem playing flute through it while sitting at the piano.

My first mic

By Rob from North Florida on January 4, 2024 Music Background: Amateur guitarist/singer -- playing for 45+ years

I've been playing guitar and singing since about 1979 -- mostly folks, blues, ragtime, and classical music. Never had much opportunity to play through electronics as I mostly played with friends (most of whom did perform publicly) or small parties. This is my first PA setup and I guess I didn't realize how much difference a mic makes to help with singing, particularly the nuanced portions of songs. This mic really makes that easy -- looking forward to getting out and playing in public now that I'm retired.

True sound

By William from South Central Tennessee on May 4, 2023 Music Background: BFA Music, Univ FL 1963. Band Director (one year). Play Baritone Ukulele since 1968, Teach music theory and performance

This is probably the most widely used vocal recording microphone and I understand why. The sound is the truest I have ever encountered. The quality was so good, I bought another. Best results are obtained by keeping it within a few inches of your mouth although it does well for groups when placed several feet away, the gain just has to be increased. Because it is super cardiod, it does have a fair degree of sensitivity on the back side so speaker-mic placement is critical; allow yourself enough time during set-up for adjustments. I use an Orange Crush 30 amp for practice and rehearsal (makes a great stage monitor too!) and it has to be placed at least 8 feet from the mic and facing away. I have a cardiod and the amp can be closer with that but the sound quality does not come close to the V7. It comes with a carry pouch and a foam windscreen. Don't pull that down owver the capsule, turn it inside out, put the "top" on the capsule and roll it down. Great mic, just be aware of the backside lobe and you will love it!

Church worship use

By Sweetwater Customer on December 8, 2022

Sound good. Really helped us reduce feedback in a wedge monitor environment. They have a bit of added low end when board is eq'd flat but it's easy enough to notch that out. Overall very please considering the price. Very good value

Vocal Mic

I am a male vocalist and guitarist. Vocals have always been the thing I get most nervous about. I don't have an outstanding voice. I don't have a lot of natural volume or projection. I often find myself struggling to be heard in the mix. I guess most would say I have a nice voice but I know it isn't one of those voices that people find captivating. So that means I'm just average. I'm okay with that as long as I don't sound bad. That brings me to this microphone. I know most people consider the Sure SM58 as the industry standard. I have never been a fan. I don't hate them but I don't love them either. I started out using a Sennheiser e835, which I find has a little more clarity than a 58. However, my voice seemed to get lost in the mix (live performance). So, I moved up to the Sennheiser e945. It definitely had more top-end clarity but sounded a bit harsh with my voice. So, I was searching for another mic to try and my Sweetwater Rep (thanks, Greg) recommended the sE V7. Although it is priced more in line with an SM58 or e835, it ended up being a good choice for me. My vocals immediately became clearer in the mix. Some may find it a bit bright but it doesn't take much EQ adjusting for me to find a good balance for my voice. No mic is going to change your voice but the right match to your voice makes a difference. The sE V7 has helped me.

Great mic, wish the sensitivity was better

By Greg from Pittsburgh on June 8, 2021 Music Background: 29 yrs doing live sound

I started of buying 3 of these, now I have 7. These are great for noisey stages and isolating vocals from a lot of ambient sound. Great sound quality but needs?a lot more gain to match the Sennheisers and Shures. That's why the 4.5 stars

Great sound

By Nestor Palacios from California on March 19, 2021

I own a few shure beta 58's so I had a chance to compare them side by side. The V7 is as good as the beta 58 I couldn't tell them apart but that's just me. I really love the sound of the V7 and strong built.

Pleasantly Surprised

By Kevin from Arlington, TX on January 15, 2021 Music Background: singer songwriter, dabbler and noodler!

I bought 5 of these mics for my band to use for rehearsal. I've been a Shure guy for 25 years, but I'm glad I bought these great sounding V7's. Comparing them to my 58's they are a little more present on the top end to my ears. Maybe a slight boost in the high Mids? Whatever they've done, bottom line is they sound really good for $... Everyone in the band thought they sounded nice and "crisp" as well. I'm running them through my DAW and out to a Mackie headphone amp and I'm loving the sound I'm getting from them.

My Goldilocks go-to Stage Vocal Microphone

By Charles Razzell from Pleasanton, CA on May 5, 2019 Music Background: Church sound tech and mixing engineer

I purchased two of these and ended up buying two more to have four of these as background and lead vocal microphones. These have replaced SM58s in the same locations, and I've been delighted with the results. I have a few alternative microphones (Beta87A, E935) that I tend to substitute for particular lead vocalists but, for the most part, I'm very content to use these by default.

I've found myself not needing to fight low-end mud that can sometimes arise from proximity effect, and the high-end is nicely extended. This is achieved without any harshness or exaggeration. The mid-range is articulate and natural. Overall, I spend less time EQ'ing vocals than with microphones I've typically experienced in the past.

"Just right" about sums it up!

Pro sounding mic

By heyrey from colorado on April 9, 2018 Music Background: full time pro

I have been using a Shure Beta 58A for at least the last 5 years. prior to that for my live use was an EV Ndym (?) for many years as well. So this is my first live use mic i have purchased in a long time
I have used this SE V7 for 3 live shows so far.
I am very impressed.
The step up in professional sound quality is noticeable to me especially since I use in ear monitoring.
The first thing that strikes me is it is a more dry, isolated sound, probably having to do with its Super-cardioid pattern. Almost "studio" quality.
Has great off axis pickup with no noticeable level drop though i am pretty good at staying on point with my mic technique even when banging on the guitar and trying to make eye contact with my audiences.
I am interested in trying the V7 out in my studio for some tracks because as i said the sound approaches that dry, warm, and present"studio' tone.
I am very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend the Se electronics V7
My only problem?
i couldn't justify the extra money for the chrome plated Billy Gibbons signature model :-)
I like this mic so much though who knows.........................................

Great Microphone

By Joseph from Auburn wa on February 1, 2017 Music Background: set up for church

This is a good looking microphone lookingthat sounds great it has low handling noise somebody dropped one on the carpet and it hardly made any noise solid and well-built Rejects feedback well and is a good mic for on stage singing

Awesome Mic

By RAYE LALOTA from Jamaica Plain, MA on December 1, 2016

Honestly this mic is almost same level of that SM58, which I owned too or If I am not mistaken this much better. I love this mic.

sounds great. looks cool, weird smell

By Paul Wisner from Arlington, MA on December 21, 2023 Music Background: gigging musician, small venues

I liked the sound very much but after a song, we noticed a chemical smell that filled our practice studio. It's the sort of smell that leaves you feeling poisoned. I'm setting it aside in the hopes that the smell will fade - it's been a couple of weeks though...

Present and high gain before feedback

By Adam Parmenter from Michigan on August 28, 2022 Music Background: Amature singer/songwriter, bass/vocals in Coffee With Friends

I love the Sennheiser e835 for my live dates. We use a Bose pole for sound, and I stand right in front of it. The e835 has good gain before feedback, but I was still getting some. I needed a hyper directional microphone.

The V7 is that mic. It's taking me time to get used to it, because for a decade I have only used the e835. However, the v7 is present in the mix like no other microphone that I've used before. Solid in the hand and does a good job with plosive. There is a proximity effect when I'm "eating" the mic, but I've ended up working with to alter vocal tone for particular songs. I have to be disciplined and stay very close to on-axis, but that's why I bought it.

No feedback so far and great performance.

Amazing for the money

By June McTaggart from Nashville, TN on February 4, 2022 Music Background: Sound engineer and musician

I mean. It sounds better than an SM57 IMO. For its price you really can't beat it. Obviously it's not perfect, but nothing is in the world of sound lol.

Good, but not Great

By Greg from Pittsburgh on April 15, 2021 Music Background: 28 yrs doing live sound

I bought 4 of these during the march madness sale. I used them for a church live stream with a choir and an extremely live(noisy) stage. The plus, the super cardioid pattern is excellent much more gain before feedback. The sound isolation was much better than the Shures or Sennhiesers I've used. I've also used Blue, Telefunken etc. mics for live and studio. I would honestly rate these a 8 out of 10. The main reason being that I had to give them much more gain to get the same output as my Sennheisers or Shures. The mic that I like the best thus far is the Telefunken M80 - its expensive, but Its a beast of a mic. Excellent sound. A 10 out of 10.

4 Star Mic!

By Mark from Vancouver, WA on February 22, 2021 Music Background: singer-songwriter and recording

This sE 7 is a very good mic. It is well built, nice and solid and looks great. Like the red pop screen in it, or you can switch it out to a black wind screen. The mic had a decent vocal sound and all things considered is worth the money. I'd choose it over an SM 58 if that is your regular go to. Only reason this is not my only 'live' vocal mic, is because it is a bit thin in the low freq. and over-all output is not as strong as another mic I use. It has decent high and mid (like the SM 58) but when I tweak the eq a bit by adding a bit more high end - a boost in the low - and a slight cut in the mid, I can then increase my regular level enough to make it sound good for my voice. Remember - a more expensive mic might already do that - but hey, this baby - for the money... I'll do my tweaking myself and save $.

SE Electronics V7 Is Terrific With One Minor Issue

By Sweetwater Customer from Chicago on March 1, 2019

I have several stage mics and was looking to upgrade. I researched the SE V7 and purchased one. When I opened the box, there was a very strong odor coming from the head of the mic. I tried leaving the mic in the open for a few days and it didn't improve. I narrowed it down to the foam pop filter in the mic head and tried replacing it with the spare filter that comes with the mic. No luck. I returned the mic and Sweetwater was great about sending a replacement. I had the same issue with the new mic. It just smells like chemicals. I've had it now for about three weeks and it's a little better, but still has the odor. It's a shame, because the mic is terrific. This is a great mic, please fix the smell!

Almost similar in sound to a Sennheiser e935

By Robert from Norfolk, VA on December 18, 2018 Music Background: Singer, Soundman

Smooth, clear sounding microphone. It has the right amount of loudness with the channel gain set between 11:30 and 12:00. Fader set just at 0 DB. Sweet spot is about 3 inches from the front close to a 45° mic angle. Can get up to an inch or two for slight proximity effect. Cupping the mic is possible but sound is smoother at 2-3 inches. Solid build quality but has a slight odor just out of the package. This gets less noticeable after a week or so. I also purchased the V3 due to many highly favorable reviews. V3 is a bit louder with a non-adjusted switch out. V3 also less neutral with a nice presence boost. I like both of them but my voice sounds a little better with the V3. For the price, both are great bargains.

One Of The Best Values In Handhelds

By Customer on April 26, 2018

This is a "GREAT" mic, using Sweetwater's rating system. The SM58 is our main stage mics;we have a couple Blue enCore's and several V7's for extras/ backups. The V7 has proven to be a keeper. Depending on the vocalist, the V7 may even be 1st choice over an SM58. sE Electronics makes some high quality gear, from dynamics to ribbons. The V7 is literally a great mic at a really nice price, with the build quality to meet any mic out there. Check 'em out, they sure surprised me.

Great mic for the price. Nice clean sound.

An Interesting Alternative to the Shure SM58

By Chris Novak from Havre de Grace, MD on May 31, 2023 Music Background: Most of it.

Patrick @ Sweetwater suggested I give this much a try instead of buying a new Shure SM58. He particularly liked the low-no feedback this mic delivers (and it really does) and also loves the tone. I still prefer the Shure SM58 over this mic. The E7 has a low-mid bump, which is simply bad for my vocal tone/style. The effect you get from cupping it has almost none of the coolness you can get from a 58 if you do it properly. The E7 sweet spot is significantly more pin-pointed than the sweet-spot on a 58 as well. Did I return the mic for an SM58? No, I keep my E7. I can't say I "get it" regarding this mic's popularity overall. But - it works. The low-feedback brag is no joke. This mic is super solid regarding feedback issues. When you hit the sweet spot, the E7 does deliver. It's simply not as easy to move and be entertaining when singing into this mic, especially when compared to the ruggedness of the SM58. I'm keeping the E7 and buying a brand new SM58 so I have both every time I go on stave, Oh! I diD use the E7 to test-record on some light percussion. Honestly this mic (to my ears) has more potential if used as a dynamic studio mic than it does on stage.

Birghter than expected dynamic mic.

By Hector Nunez from Chepachet, RI on March 30, 2023

A quality microphone!
It sounds good, a bit brighter than my sm58.
The levels are nice and loud without requiring too much gain from the opamps.
great buy.

A Good Live Vocal Mic for Certain Music Genres

By Eric Snodgrass from LOS ANGELES, CA on September 11, 2018

3.5 stars because I'm not blown away by this microphone. I've done a side-by-side comparison with a Shure Beta 58 through an Allen&Heath SQ5 and L'Acoustic 112P wedges. (Not showing off - I just had access to the equipment and thought it would be a good combination to do the comparison.)
The sE V7 takes a bit more gain to match the Beta 58. It's not as "bright"-sounding as the Beta 58. Like the Beta 58 it does have quite a bit of proximity effect to it when getting very close to the windscreen, but to me the difference in this low-end boost is that it sounds like the V7 low end extends a bit higher, giving it a "rounder" sound. Given these observations, one could say that the Beta 58 sounds "more aggressive" and will cut through a dense Rock mix better.
The V7 handling noise is as pronounced as the Beta 58, but said handling noise is actually a lower frequency than the Beta 58 - it extends into the lower frequencies. A High-Pass Filter at just above 100Hz takes care of that noise, thus making it comparable to the Beta 58.
The supercardioid pattern of the V7 definitely gives it more gain-before-feedback through the floor monitor than the Beta 58. While bringing up each microphone to loud levels, the Beta 58 started to ring while the V7 stayed quiet. I was not going to damage my hearing to see how loud it could go before feedback.
The V7 would not be my go-to mic for Rock in almost all its various sub-genres or Hip-Hop; the Beta 58 should cut through the mix better. But I am definitely using the V7 for Jazz, Cabaret singing, A Capella singing, etc. I will also be using it for any singer who has a nasal or sharp quality to their voice as I believe that its smooth response will make a perfect complement to that type of voice. I also think that this would be a good choice for background vocals.
It's definitely worth the money to have it in my live microphone collection.

Not For All Voices

By Gordon K from Oregon on March 11, 2024 Music Background: Pro singer-songwriter, composer, guitar instructor

I was looking for another "flavor" of dynamic mic for stage and studio. I traded up to this, after returning another mic. (Sweetwater was great on the exchange.) I knew the V7 was a little brighter than some dynamics, but the reviews were good, and I thought I'd give it a try. Turns out it's not a good fit for my voice. Too much bass roll-off, and not as articulate as I'd hoped. It's also only so-so on plosive rejection. The well-known artists who rave about this mic seem to all have higher-pitched voices (tenor and up). I'm guessing that is the issue, so baritones best look elsewhere. I should mention that the mic is very well-built.

Don’t Understand Why This Mic Is So Popular

By Chris Novak from Gwynn Oaks, MD on July 25, 2023

I tried this mic and found it to not be as usable or sonically comparable in quality to the SM58. I understand many people like this mic and prefer it over the 58…but don't understand why. True, it has super low feedback issues…in fact I couldn't get it to feed back even when trying (within reason, of course). It also has what is to my ears a nasty low-mid bump and a highly limited sweet spot. The best quality of sound it puts out requires limited activity such that veering outside its sweet spot even slightly makes the mic sound cheap and muddy. Using this mic for live vocals seems therefore pointless. Maybe it's good for guitar or other amp mic-ing but since I have no use for those applications I returned the mic and will continue using an SM 58 for live vocals.

Good stage mic bad youtube video mic

Works well for stage and preformance, but for video recording. This mic was a nightmare to setup correctly. Always sounded off.

Ringing Noise! Returned first and then got a new one sent with the same issue.

By Ryan Dunn from FAYETTEVILLE, NY on November 17, 2021 Music Background: Music Major, Singer Songwriter, Guitarist

I wanted a Supercardioid Dynamic Mic for studio recording. This mic looks amazing but it didn't work out for me. For some reason their was this ringing noise that changed with the way I moved my mic. It was not the cable or the audio interface. They both worked fine with my AKG P420 microphone. Don't know what it was. Sweetwater was great though. They sent me a new one and then after I returned the second they set me up with a Beta58a microphone which has worked much better.
