Closet guitarist

By Larry Gast from KS on April 23, 2024 Music Background: Classical guitarist

This Amp outperforms even my Fishman solid state Amp. It almost sounds like surround sound every time I play the guitar. It's a great investment for the novice guitarist and advanced guitarists alike. You will enjoy the musicality you get from the Amp.

Best sounding amp by far

By Steve from Phoenix AZ on March 7, 2024 Music Background: Live performer for 50+ years

I know that guitar amp sound is subjective and what sounds great for me won't cut it for the next person. But I gotta tell you, I have owned this amp now for 10 years and been playing in church and for classic rock bands for 50+ years. It is, by far, the best sounding amp I have played through. They say that tone is in the fingers, and I agree. But this combo amplifier makes my tone shine. I have had more than one compliment. It's loud enough for a bar gig, but portable enough to play for any circumstance. I currently mic the speaker and let the sound man take over. That's the way to go if you have the opportunity.

Junk

By Ronald Angora on February 9, 2024

Nothing but trouble. There is no such company as Bugera. You buy this trash and your stuck with it. No customer service at all because there is no Bugera company. Can't even find an amp tech willing to look at it. Everything Bugera is disposable. Even with to he two year guarantee it will cost you more to ship it back and forth than you paid for it. Dave your money and buy something better

Problematic

By Ronald Angora from Burlington NC on January 28, 2024 Music Background: Playing for over fifty years and now ready to give it up because I can't afford a real amplifier.

I bought one these from you several years ago. It was bad right out of the box. You gave me hard time about returning it. I since bought another one from the bugera repair shop in Vegas, which no longer exists. That one too has been giving me troubles. I can't see myself buying another one no matter what the price or what anybody else thinks about them
I can only go by my own experiences which have not been good

Great amp

By Sweetwater Customer on January 22, 2024

I have had one for about 6 years. It has a warm, clean sound. It even sounds good with an acoustic guitar. I wish it had a line out. The tube monitor is helpful and had to change them once. I did replace the speaker with an Eminence Cannabis Rex which is warmer.

Sounds Great

By Christopher Dube from Aubrey, TX on December 29, 2023

I had this amp and it sounded like a million bucks. However, it would blow up all the time. Always thought"what a shame" it sounded so good. I sold it. I would consider getting another. I hope they work out their QC issues.

V22 combo amp

By David Rose from Fayetteville AR on December 5, 2023

I am loving my new amp. I like the fact that you can switch between triode and pentode modes.I live in an apartment and triode mode at 11 watts is perfect.I spend most of my time playing blues through the clean channel and it sounds great. The only problem that I had was after playing for a while the jewel light started flickering and then flashing on and off. After checking, I found that the factory had the speaker plugged into the external speaker jack. When I tried to plug it into the correct jack it wouldn't reach. After fiddling around I was able to get it into the correct jack.So be sure to check that everything is set right before plugging in. It works great now and I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I love it.

By Michael Swanson from PORTLAND, OR on November 24, 2023 Music Background: 35 years of playing

I love this amplifier. Bass tones are rich without being muddy, highs are crisp without being tinny, and its overall clean tone is just so full and satisfying. I find the gain channel to be too brittle sounding, and the reverb is weak and sounds downright cheap, but for this price point this thing is a treasure. I was worried about buying a "cheap" tube amp, but I like this one quite a bit more than the Fender Reverb Deluxe and Peavey Classic 30 I've had. Those are great if you want to tear the wallpaper off the walls with searing rock and roll, but for a more well-rounded sound I'll take the Infinium. And while its on board distortion isn't the best, it makes my overdrive pedals sound gorgeous.

Love it!

By Greg on September 1, 2023 Music Background: Guitar player

I purchased this amp a few years ago. I wanted a Fender, but the price of that made me look for other options. It has been one of the best gear purchases I've ever made. She growls! It sounds good with humbuckers, but it shines with single coils. My tele sounds great on this amp, but my partscaster with the P90s... Wow. Loud and dirty with a natural distorted hamonic tone. A great buy and an incredible value.

Decent amps. Versatile and reliable..

By Sweetwater Customer on August 31, 2023

I prefer the original VT22. I've been using one for years. If you want a "lush" reverb (it's digital.. not a tank) this isn't the amp for you without a good pedal in the fox loop. It's a great platform for pedals. I play next to Mesas, Fenders, and Marshall's all of the time. Took the badge off and people ask me if it's a boutique amp. Tone is in the hands. 2 channels is great. One Fender(ish) and the other British(ish). Great for clubs. I had to retighten all of the screws in mine after 2 years. It's a bit heavy for a 1x12" combo because of the mdf. The original speaker is fine but you have to BREAK IT IN. I didn't have any issues with the OEM Chinese tubes..

Extremely Pleased with the Bugera V22 After 4 Years

By Sweetwater Customer from Minnesota on July 25, 2023 Music Background: Benn playing professionally since the 80's...

Well I have had my Bugera V22 Infinium now for around 4 years, and I thought that I'd update my review. My amp is all stock other than upgrading the tubes, and putting in an Eminence Swamp Thang speaker.

I will start by saying after 4 years, I simply love this amp more and more as time goes on! The tubes that Bugera put in the amp were good, but of course as a guitar player I had to upgrade them. This was only for personal preference though, and not because there was anything wrong with the stock tubes! The same is true with the speaker. The stock speaker was very good, but the Swamp Thang adds a little more bottom and roundness to the tone with a smoothness of the highs in general, which is what I like.

The amp is broken in now, and has only gotten better! It has the headroom of a fender, although I think there might be even more headroom on the clean channel of the Bugera. The tone is slightly darker than a Fender, leaning slightly toward a Vox, but with a warmth and smoothness that in my opinion is better than both! Of course, sound is very subjective, but I personally think that the Bugera V22 has the foundations of the Fender and Vox tone, but combines them into a uniquely Bugera sound that is slightly better than either a Fender or Vox! It sounds simply quality, and professional! The reverb is very good, although I personally wish it had a bit longer tail, more reminiscent of a spring reverb. But its fine as it is. The amp is solidly built, looks cool, but is somewhat heavy. Of course, the weight is primarily equal to any tube amp, which tends to be heavier than say a modeling amp, but the tone of the Bugera is so much better, the extra weight is worth it!

My review is based on the clean channel, since I do not use the overdrive channel, so can not offer any meaningful opinions. If you play Country, classic Rock'n Roll, Blues, Jazz, or other similar music this amp is perfect! It will probably do good for heavier music with pedals. It will easily go over a drummer, as long as the drummer doesn't beat the hell out of their drums! The technology that's in this thing works great, and I have not yet had to change the tubes after my initial upgrade when I first got the amp. When I do have to change the tubes, it is really convenient to not have to pay for a rebiasing! I will just put the new tubes in, and the amp will do the rest!

In conclusion… The Bugera V22 Infinium combo is a professional quality amp that has a quality professional sound! I tend to baby my equipment, so the build quality seems fine, and I have had no problems! If you want to prestige of owning a "big name" amp, then of course you will probably lean toward one of the more prestigious named companies. But if you are looking for a solidly built, wonderful sounding, and truly professionally oriented amp, I don't think that you could do better than this amp! Bugera had some quality issues way back in the day, but they have gotten their act together and now produce a truly great amplifier! And then we can talk about their amazing pricing on this amp! I have not said anything before now, because I do not think that the Bugera V22 is a good amp "for its price", but rather I think that it is a great amp in general, and the fact that it is so reasonably priced is an extra benefit!

I hope that this review has been helpful! If you are thinking of buying a 22-watt 1-12 tube amplifier for your guitar, then I don't think that you could do better than the Bugera V22 Infinium combo!

Not one bit disappointed!

By Carlos on May 31, 2023

After so many years hearing about all the wonders of tubes, compared to transistors, I finally decided to get one ...

First up, looks classy! Good asthetics as well as solid. As for the sound of this thing: You can't compare, period. The cleans are crystal clear and it doesn't seem to bother much when you crank it a little. Comes with a very decent Reverb and the dirt channel does have a nice vintage feel to it ;)

Im running a Boss GT-1 effects processor on it and the sounds I'm getting are simply mind blowing.

I'm sure there's a lot of other nice tube amps out there, for double the price tag. You can't ask for more. Great buy!

Second review, the amp is worth it.

By Barry from North Carolina on May 26, 2023 Music Background: Playing since the 60's, still rattling the windows and shaking the walls.

I submitted a rather lengthy review of this amp a year or so ago, won't write a book this time, I knocked a half star off back then for some trivial reason. I bought it from Sweetwater 3 years ago, the first one had some problems, shipped it back and had another within a couple of days, excellent customer relations and service. The clean channel is awesome, takes pedals very well, I have a $ Caline Pure Sky that just sings through this amp, also a Zoom G1 Four Multi effects Processor, very underrated because it sounds super, at least through this Bugera. A direct out would be cool, can't have everything. Despite the pedals, I use the dirt channel a lot, I like the gritty, vintage tinged blues/rock vibe it puts out. The stock speaker is excellent, give it some time to break in. This is a dam good amp and very flexible, you can't go wrong purchasing it, especially from Sweetwater.

Bugera new tube

By Steve Barry from Gordonville, TX on September 14, 2022 Music Background: FB Music videos, teen bands

I like a standby switch, got one, I like super style, I like amp covers, and amp stands, I wanted the sound I heard on demos. Totally nice and is a rounded clean not a rattlesnake bite, and the sound is Vox-ish. I use it as a clean amp, and it is so mellow the sound has shape. I stole one from Sweetwater. Companion Marshall Code rounds out Studio 1.

Great Amp

By Mike from WA on September 6, 2022 Music Background: 40 year beginner

This is my first tube amp so my experience is limited. However, I love this amp, I have a couple of digital practice amps that are okay but they don't come close to this amp. I gave it a four star rating only because of my limited experience.

Awesome!

By James Rezza on August 30, 2022

As per usual, Sweetwater delivered. I've had this amp for almost a year now and it's great. It can do so much and for such little cost. The sound quality from this amp is amazing and the tonal diversity is wonderful. What a bargain!

Bugera V22

By Mike from North Carolina on April 19, 2022 Music Background: Playing ~ 3 years

To be fair, I'm relatively new to playing guitar and have just recently begun to explore the technology side of things. Most everyone I asked when researching the purchase of my very first amp was that tube amps have the best sound. I'm sure there's truth to that and some of it may just be nostalgia, who knows. None the less, I purchased the V22 for a number of reasons. 1) A friend bought the V55 and loved it. 2) Esthetically, I really like the look of the Bugera's. 3) Weight 4) Price.

Overall, I've been happy with the sound, look and weight, it's relatively easy to move around and the price point for a tube amp was pretty reasonable I thought.

My only issue with the amp is that it blew a tube after using it less than 30 times, maybe less than 20 times. Maybe blowing a tube is not uncommon but I have to say I was a pretty pissed given I hadn't used it much and I was just getting ready to jam with my brothers when it blew and I of course, didn't have any replacement tubes handy. Would I buy it again?? The jury is still out which is why I gave it 2 stars.

Best money I ever spent on an amp and a "right on" speaker

By Barry from North Carolina on March 30, 2022 Music Background: Been playing for many, many moons, in a few bands and for the pure love of it.

A big hello fellow guitar players, I've owned this amp for two years thanks to Sweetwater's excellent payment program, long enough to feel confident about giving my honest opinion and 3 cents worth. First off, I no longer play in a band, maybe it's around the corner, hopefully. That being said the amp has never left the den, luckily, I live in a house, it would be too much of an amp to crank in an apartment or similar dwelling, even on the lower power setting which I always have it set on. A tube amp needs to be played a certain volume to get the tubes glowing and smoking (metaphorically speaking of course) no problem with this amp and it sounds super, the speaker and amp are much more compatible than most marriages. I tried a very good, fully broken in Eminence GB128 speaker in it I had lying around, it didn't take me long to put the original Turbosound speaker back in, a lesson learned, the factory installed speaker is killer, Bugera knows what they're doing. The amp itself is a bargain, I had tried out and given costlier Fenders, Marshalls and a Peavey, all tube amps a good workout at various guitar stores, I bought the Bugera V22 from Sweetwater without ever having touched one, I haven't looked back, it's a dam good amp with enough usable knobs and switches on it to be very flexible for any musical genre one wants to play and I cover them all despite my love of Southern Blues/Rock and Country Rock, I also have to get my daily dose of Santana in. I won't go into all the settings and particulars on the amp, you can look them up online but I will say they are all sensitive and very usable, I can't speak for the boost because I have had no need for it, playing out would be a different story, I can see where it would be necessary. Moving any knob one click one way or the other gives an audible difference, not all amps accomplish this regardless of their price. I love this amp, the clean channel is super and takes pedals very well, I've played numerous ones through it and a Zoom effects processor, now I'm down to a delay and one OD pedal, it's all I need. The dirt channel took some getting use to but once the speaker was broken in everything came together, it's very good except for one observation, the Bass drops out the more the gain is cranked, one of the reasons I gave it 4 and a half stars instead of 5, the other being that the clean and dirt channel share the same equalization settings, I can see where this could be a problem playing out, maybe not a major one but it is what it is, some sort of pedal in the very good effects loop could compensate for that. I've said enough, if you want a tube amp, can afford one or can get qualified for the Sweetwater credit card, this amp is excellent, all the positive reviews aren't BS, this amp is a bargain, take the money you will save and buy a good pedal or whatever, I did. Last but not least, a big thank you and tip of the hat that I don't wear to Sweetwater and Aaron C, you have been very helpful and you work for a truly great American Company, I have a new Sales Engineer now, will be doing business with him in the future, a fellow Veteran, Semper Fi and play on.

Introduction to Tube

By Jim from WA on February 27, 2022 Music Background: Professional Amateur 36 years

Had this amp almost two years, and frankly played it only a handful of times until just recently. Reason being I have three young children and need the plug and play convenience of my solid state Blues Cube, especially late at night. Try playing a tube amp when everyone else is asleep. So I could never get a decent sound- good enough with pedals, but I knew something was missing. Lately however, I've abandoned pedals for the most part, feeling pretty good about playing clean, ditching all the cables and pedal board nonsense- and plugging just guitar into amp. As good as it sounds on the BC, I knew tubes would take it to a whole different level. But first how to tame the beast? Did some research, figured out it has an attenuated setting, 11w instead of 22, as well as a dirt channel (which I never really liked before with all the pedal noise and confusion I was throwing at it, and knowing squat about effects loops). Add a clean boost in front, along with an eq pedal in the effects loop, now the dirt channel comes alive with satisfyingly smooth crunch, sweet violin like sustain, that edge of breakup tube saturation with the gain rolled back- whatever you want really, all at comfortable bedroom volume. The kind of sound and touch and feel that makes you want to keep playing all night long. (BTW I actually do have a Bugera attenuator, still trying to get it to work- but what a pain in the ### to set up everytime to play).

Very Impressed

By AP from NEW ORLEANS, LA on January 19, 2022 Music Background: Touring and session guitarist

I am VERY impressed with the tone of this amp and that is not something I say easily. Might be my favorite clean amp I have ever played. Overdriven tone is quite usable as well. Couldnt be happier.

Great amp especially considering the price.

By Zachary Myers from Mount Zion, IL on January 15, 2022

This thing sounds fantastic. The clean channel is probably my favorite of all my amps. I have a Marshall, an Orange and a Fender. All tube amps. The dirty channel is really good also. This thing takes pedals very well also. It won't get metal sounds but I have a Mesa Throttle Box and a Freedman BE-OD hooked up for that. They sound really good through this amp too. You really can't go wrong with this amp. Buy it.

Only issue is the dirty channel does not work

By Chris Phillips on January 14, 2022 Music Background: Living room rock star

I bought mine several years ago and the dirty channel stopped working about 2 years into owning it. I'm a living room player so it was not mistreated or anything. I paid to have it repaired but no luck. The tech could not repair it. I still use the clean channel and just use a pedal for distortion which is probably the best thing to do anyway. Overall its a good amp for the money and I'm pretty sure the issue I had is not common.

Great amp

Great tube amp for the price

By Sweetwater Customer on December 14, 2021 Music Background: Old school rocker, session player

Can't beat the price for a tube amp at 22watts.
Has a classic tube tone the clean goes from crisp to slightly broken and the dirt can get real edgy and lush.
I don't hear a big range in the high, mid and low pots which is a negative but the verb is nice. This won't compare to a $1200 tube combo but it blows the doors off of most "budget" tube amps and since my gigging days are long behind me this amp completely satisfies my tube Jones.
If I had to have just one amp for all my needs it would be ….a katana mkII ….but since I can have multiple amps I am enjoying this one to fill a niche:
It's a good amp and... punches above its weight.

Love it!

By Billy Hines from Akron, OH on December 8, 2021 Music Background: 7 years playing guitar

This is my first tube amp, and I have no complaints. The only downside, for myself, was the reverb from the amp, but it's really no big deal. I've heard that people aren't that impressed with the dirty channel, but I quite like the sound. All in all, I love this amp, and I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Great amp with some mods

By Peter McArdle from Malone,NY on November 19, 2021 Music Background: More than 50 yrs on guitar and bass, which I play in our Band

I've had my amp for about 2 years now, great amp. It did however sound too British for me. I swapped out the Turbosound speaker and replaced it with an Emminence cannibus rex, Mellowed the tone somewhat. Then one of the Bugera el84 power tubes crapped out. Time for replacement. Selected Groove Tubes matched set(med-7), they are in my Blues Jr. and these really mellowed the tone. I play an Epiphone Dot Studio with Seymour Duncan Phat Cat P90's and a Squire Classic Vibe Telecaster with Vintage 50's pickups. Both sound great through this amp with great bottom end with classic mid range a sparkling highs. Kept the stock Bugera 12ax7's, but may replace with JJ's. Have them in my BJ 4. Worth the money spent.

Good Amp

By Alden Griffis on October 27, 2021

I love mine! It really gets the job done. It has much more volume than I need and the distortion channel is significantly quieter than the clean channel when both are dimed, but those are really the only complaints I have(and one is subjective!). It has a good tone that fits in a mix, and it takes pedals well. Thanks again to Sweetwater for delivery!

Another shiny new gear item from Sweetwater

By Sweetwater Customer on October 26, 2021

I've had my eye on this Bugera V22 since 2020.
When Sweetwater offered a $ promotional discount on this item, I just couldn't resist.

I love the the vintage look and the all-tube feature. I also ordered an amp cover which looks awesome. I'm happy to have this amp as part of my collection.

In my case, this is strictly for studio rehearsal and the occasional backyard gig with friends.
I'm happy with the look, the sound and the price.

Also, I appreciate the continued excellent service from Sweetwater. Thanks to Aaron Cieslikowski for the follow-up work and great customer service.

Owned this for over two years

By Sweetwater Customer on September 27, 2021

I saw this pop up on some ad on my google feed while I was looking around for some tube amps and I thought I'd write a review about this little bad boy. I bought the Bugera V22 around two years ago with the real primary purpose to use it as a practice amp in my bedroom. I've changed the tubes twice over the course of two years (I know, purists would hate this) but I absolutely adore the quality this amp has at the price it's tagged at. I took it to band practice a few times and it had to compete with a very loud drummer and another guitar player (who was playing through a hot rod, fully cranked) and I had to mic it up... the Bugera couldn't compete with them. I was well aware it probably couldn't, but I had to hear how it sounded at full volume (great). So, just keep that in mind when purchasing this thing. It gets five stars from me because you really can't beat the price for something that sounds so good. My ES335 shines through this thing!

Good first tube amp for me

By Sweetwater Customer on September 15, 2021

Beats any practice amp. Had a 2x12 solid state amp that I sold right after getting this. Not going to look back. Had bought five pedals to get the sounds I wanted on the solid state amp. For rock and blues you really don't need anything with this amp. I still keep an overdrive to push the channel for some metal.

So much for so little

Bugera 22 Watt Tube Amp

By Jeffrey B Crosson on September 7, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist

The only negative thing about this amp is the weight. Of course a tube amp is going to weigh more than a solid state amp. The good thing about this amp is that it rocks. It dishes out a massive amount of warm overdrive/distortion or whatever you want to call it. This is the second time I've purchased this exact amp. I sold the first one with the idea that amp modeling equipment going through PA speakers would be just as good but sadly I was wrong. So anyway if you are in the market for an amp that is loud enough to gig at a small venue but still sounds great at lower volumes I would fully recommend this amplifier. Also the price is right.

Bugera V22 Combo

By terry from indianapolis, indiana on August 7, 2021 Music Background: On the road for 10+ years in a rock band. Currently in a Christian rock band called True Revival

Rocking little amp! Lots of tone and thump! I've only played it at 1 gig so far but it sounded good! One thing... the power light started flashing. It flashed at a consistent rate for the last half hour of the show. Not sure yet what that means, time will tell...

Really nice with certain modifications

By Sweetwater Customer on July 24, 2021

I am a amp collector and have 30 amps ranging from hand wired Fenders to Marshall Plexis. I picked on of these v22s up second hand in great shape primarily because i love the way it looks and wanted to put it on display in my amp room. I sat down and played it a little while and saw potential in it but it was just a little to thin sounding for my taste to be of practical use. I love to modify amps so i said to myself you know im gonna try a few things because I thought I could get it sounding good. So the first thing i did was replace the preamp tubes with JJs and popped in some old Sovtek powe tubes and that immediately livened the amp up but it still wasn't there. I have a bunch of speakers laying around as you can imagine and i had a Swamp Thang I wasn't using and i said to myself, that speaker should work perfectly with this amp. It has a great low end and a great full meaty sound which is exactly what the v22 needed. So i put it in there and man that was a difference maker. At lower bedroom volume this amp is absolutely beautiful now. I cant stop playing it. To me the weakness of this amp is it gets a little muddy at high volume so I don't think it would be useful for gigs. But at lower to moderate volumes it may be my favorite amp now. I have heard several comments that replacing the speaker in this amp doesn't help but I submit that it does tremendously if you find the right speaker. For me the Swamp Thang did the trick.

Sweet sounds

By Tom Deaton from Winston Salem on June 16, 2021 Music Background: Playing over 40 years

I love the fact that you don't have to wade through a bunch of useless effects. Reverb is all you need. The amp has a sweet bluesy tube sound. But you can get country or rock and definitely jazz.

Bugera v22

By Jeremiah from Massillon ohio on April 21, 2021 Music Background: Played in a few bands but only jam with friends now

Sounds stellar, reviews will say don't buy Chinese junk but the fact is most of anything even remotely affordable is made overseas yes even our phones lol. In all seriousness this is my 2nd time owning one. Had to sell first one for bills but I'm in a better financial position now and out of all the gear I've let go over the years this is what I chose to purchase again. Just listen to josh Smiths YouTube video and that is what it sounds like for real. I was in a band when I had the first one and it's plenty loud no joke and does not get crispy till well over half volume. It has taken every pedal I've thrown at it with no issues, I have heard it does not like tube screamer type overdrives but midrange bump is not my thing anyways so I lean towards transparent overdrives because they simply dirty up the fantastic clean tones this amp has. Buy it

Not too Shabby

Wonderful clean channel. Feel like the Gain channel could be a bit better. I can get great tones at bedroom levels. On the other hand gets way louder than I'll ever need. Heavy but seems to be of really nice quality. Hard to beat the price!

Bugera V22 Infinium Amp

By Robert from Denver, CO on March 14, 2021 Music Background: Always in love with the guitar. Play daily.. Never on stage.. :)

Very nice amp. Versatile. Great sounds. Tons of tones. My Jazzmaster certainly loves it. My acoustic\electric guitars sound sweet as honey paired with this amp as well. I have 4 other amps. None super costly but this one tops them all honestly. I read\viewed everything I could find and although I don't always subscribe to the opinions out there... in this case I agree wholeheartedly with all the positive reviews. Price at this time is great as well... A true value. No regrets at all.

A really nice sounded tube amp

The Bugera has very sweet clean tones and is really versatile, it sounds good with a couple of different guitars. The controls are very usable. It sounds great with peddles in the clean channel. I do find that the gain channel goes into distortion too soon, I am planning on swapping out the pre-amp tubes to a lower gain tube in the future. For a tube amp in this price range this is an excellent buy!!

Love it

Great amp... I have had 2 of them

Best amp ever.

By Logan from Kingwood Texas on February 16, 2021 Music Background: 18 years of playing guitar

I will never go to guitar center. They are dishonest. But Sweetwater is the best they sold me this amp and boy it packs a punch. Knocks every amp out of the ball park.

Good amp for the $$

By Manuel Gonzalez from Miami, FL on February 6, 2021

Looks good , sounds good, great bang for the buck, both clean & drive channels sound sweet, loud enough for live club gigs. reverb is ok, kicks in at about 6 . Self biasing feature is grand.

Perfect!

Awesome amp. More than exceeds my expectations!

Knock on wood

By Joel B. from Brooklyn, NY on January 24, 2021 Music Background: apartment rocker

I was so close to buying a Marshall or a Vox, then watched a vid for this amp and bought it for the price and tone. I love the look, I love that it comes with a pedal, I love the sound. Unless something goes wrong, this amp is an absolute steal.

The other amps I was looking at were 10-15 watt, and I don't need a lot of in-apartment volume, so I grabbed a Bugera power attenuator. Now I can get crunchy tones while playing at volumes that let me hear my pick hitting the strings.

It's heavy-ish, but hey -- two channels and reverb!

Take it From Me

By MJones from Seattle, WA on December 29, 2020 Music Background: Industry Streetwalker

I have been in the music biz for 40 years. Never held a day job in my life. Former "A" room performer and current songwriter/producer/recording artist/engineer. Guitar is my primary instrument since 1978, and aside from a '83 Marshall JCM-800 2X12 50w combo, modded by a friend in LA, this little amp sounds as good as any 12AX7 platform I've owned. I rented a '59 Plexi from Mick Mars once to record a project in the early '90's, and that sounded a bit better too. But you can own this amp for less than I rented that one. Durability issues and tubes are a problem that goes with the territory in valveland. Suck it up or buy a Kemper. Take it from me...this amp will get the job done.

Bugera V22 AMP

By Mark from Otto, NC on December 17, 2020 Music Background: Intermediate player for many years

My Bugera V22 came in this afternoon by FedEx and I'm jumping for joy! I've always wanted a tube amp to get that vintage sound of the Stones and others from the 60's and the Bugera delivers it. I recently purchased through Sweetwater an Epiphone Firebird with the bone nut and the Pleked fretboard and it fits nicely with the amp. There are so many ways to tweek the sound and it is warm and clear which makes listening to it a delite. A power conditioner and overdrive pedal are on the way to me to come in by this Monday and that will make the sounds even more inviting. The amp comes with two channels and a footswitch where you can select between channels and also reverb. What more could you ask for? I got this amp on sale and it was a better price than any other source. Great work Sweetwater and I will continue to purchase from you as you sell quality equipment and have top notch customer service!

Very Impressed

By Nicholas Di Paolo from COTTONWOOD, AZ on December 2, 2020 Music Background: Playing long enough...

Wow! That's the best way to say it. It's so much cheaper than other Valve amps with not even all the same features that I was just hoping it was passible, but it sounds amazing at 1/2 and full power, the Clean & Dirty are both great and the Bright and Normal channels with or without the Boost all do their jobs well so you don't feel compelled to redial in the EQ when you switch. I don't use pedals except for a Wah and a clean OD and I am amazed at the tones I'm getting and how responsive it is to my playing. I've been trying to get an all Valve amp since I went from an apt to a house but not trying to spend a whole lot with things being so slow during covid. This amp seemed like a great compromise but exceeded all expectation. It feels well built, sturdy and has a nice classy look to it. If it stands up to the mileage I put on it, I might even get it's big brother with the 6L6 valves.

Excellent tube combo that outperforms its price point

By Troy from Austin on November 21, 2020

Checked out multiple reviews/demonstrations of this amp and have not been disappointed. Sweetwater's customer service is remarkably stellar, as well!

I've been satisfied with the tone straight out of the box: Stock tubes, no pedals. Nice organic sound.

They got it right with this amp—well-suited for blues, jazz, funk and classic rock. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a versatile tube amp without compromising quality or cost.

Bugera v22 infinitum 1x12 combo and mesa boogie el84 power tubes.

By Charles Sago from Kentucky on November 7, 2020 Music Background: Bluegrass to hard rock. Been playing for 47 years. I do sessions work for classic rock, blues and hard rock bands.

Bought this amp on may 5th,2020. I've had the amp for six months. This is a great p if you use it for what it is meant for. Great for blues, classic rock and some heavier rock. The speaker is great and if you would consider replacing it, it will take some serious cash to do better. The controls are very good and responsive. The inputs are good and I use the bright input for all my playing, blues, rock and hard rock. I never use the boost. On October 25th a power tube went microphonic. This is after playing thru the amp for almost 5monthson average 4hourd a day, 7 days a week and about 80 hours doing sessions work. Called Nick Rice at sweetwater and he said the best tubes for my style of playing would beesa boogie el84's. Man was he right. Nick your the man. Mesa boogies changed the amp to be perfect. Tighter and brighter on the bottom end and smooth and perfect brightness on the top end. Perfect thickness in the mid range. The cleans are beautiful, but the crunch and distortion are as good as it gets. No fuzz are muddiness on any pickup position. Get the amp, don't listen to the haters. Put mesa boogies in the power amp section and rock on. Once again, Nick Rice, your the man. Thanks

GOOD AMP

By WILLIAM PULVER from PHILADELPHIA, PA on September 18, 2020 Music Background: Life long GIBSON player

The 1st one I got was an open box discounted amp that the Distortion channel blew up in less than 3 weeks, so back it went.
Then SWEETWATER sent out a new one and it is an really OK li'l Amp. I did not know the speaker is an 8 Ohm speaker so I can not use the amp for what I originally intended to use it for: The right side power source in my Home Studio Rig, which is a Stereo Rig.
I have a Marshall 2525C Jubilee Re-issue w/12" Celestion for the left channel, it goes out to a Marshall Stereo 2X12" Jubilee Feissue Cabinet and this was supposed to be the right side power source, which would make the Rig in my studio a 42 Watt Stereo Half Stack.......complete BAD-A**, but, this Bugera Amp has an 8 Ohm speaker! So I have to stick with the VOX Night-Train 15 Watt Amp that I wanted to use this Bugera Amp to replace it with. But until I get a 16 Ohm speaker into this Bugera Amp I have to use it separately and it sits in my living room and it howls pretty. I only really use the clean channel and with a Friedman 'Dirty Shirley' Pedal and I can get just about any Rock sound I want to get out of it.
The amp itself is surprisingly heavy sounding, kinda like a Marshall Plexi in the Low End, but i have yet to crank it up over 4 to see if the speaker is a dog or not..the speaker is getting replaced w/Celestion so I am sure it will sound really good soon enough.
For just being the power source for the right side of a stereo rig I am sure this amp will do nicely and if it blows up after the 2 year warranty is expired it will have only cost me $... (plus the $... I will be spending to get the rat dog 8 Ohm speaker out of it) so it is a real bargain compared to the $... I paid for the Marshall 2525C.

AMAZING AMP!!!

By Julio from Long Island, NY on July 4, 2020 Music Background: Guitarist

I've have this amp since 2016 and from then till now, this amp has been to hell and back with me. I've hauled this thing all over the east coast. From NY to jersey to Pennsylvania and so on and to this day I have absolutely no complaints about this amp. All I've done was a tube change about a year in but from there it's been smooth sailing with this amp. I can truly say that if if my life depended on an amazing, great sounding amp, I would put it into this one right here.

Home run

By Dan from CT on March 11, 2020

First off, Sweetwater is amazing. I've never gone wrong with them and they have -- hands down -- the best customer service of any company I've ever dealt with. Full stop.

Second, this amp is amazing. The cleans are out of this world. It sounds great even at low volumes, but it is astounding when moved up to 5 on master and channel.

It also takes pedals very well. I used the effects loop with my multi effects processor on it into the clean channel with gain and compression before the pre-amp and reverb and delay after and it was unbelievable.

The value is here is out of this world and you can't go wrong.

Great amp

By Scott from California on March 2, 2020

I have had this amp for 2 years. I have played over 60 gigs with it. It has held up well. I just recently had to change the tubes. Nice to have the indicator for the tubes. The sound is very clean and pure, on the brighter side. Not a jazz amp but changing the speaker might help. It is plenty loud. Wish it had a line out. I tried many amps, mostly Fender. This sounds better than the Deluxe Reverb to me. I have an older Twin but it is too big, heavy and loud. For the money this is a great buty.

Great vintage style amp

By James from Rocky Mount, NC on January 21, 2020

This was my first tube amp that I bought. I have had it since 2015. Great clean tones, but not the Fender chime. Sound is very full, but it still is a lower powered amp, meaning you will have to crank the volume higher than some other amps. A word of caution w/ the dirty channel, use only w/ the "bright" input. If you use the dirty channel w/ the "normal" input, it will sound like crap unless you have a guitar w/ really good high-end pickups... even then, it doesn't sound that great. The dirty channel using the "bright" input will work best if you want great crunchy vintage rock tones. This is not a high gain amp. It will not do metal tones unless you use a pedal on the clean channel. And does work great w/ pedals. For the price, it is a great affordable tube amp, and a great first tube amp if you are looking for one.

Excellent!

By Jonathan N. Hose on October 22, 2019

I just want to chime in (pun intended) that this amp is a tone machine... lovely lovely sounds! The choice for me was a used amp or this, with it's good reviews and tube protection and monitoring features. I just plain love it!

My first purchase from Sweetwater but not my last. Over the top in service.

Excellent Amp

By Scott Bigler from Tennessee on October 5, 2019 Music Background: Hobbyist with almost 50 years playing guitar

Surprisingly, this is one of the best tube amps I've owned at any price. I currently own several tube amps and i will say that this is on par with the best of them! I am running a POD HD 500X to the amp using the four cable method. The amp simulation on the POD is turned off so what I'm getting is the pure Bugera sound plus effects. I have a compressor, Tube Screamer, and FUZZ Pi running through the Bugera preamp and the effects loop block, chorus, reverb and delay running through the power amp. Wow! What distortion! Couldn't ask for better sound from any amp. Turn up the master and blow out the windows!!

Awesome Amp!

By Paul Delsignor from Maine on September 25, 2019 Music Background: Intermediate Player

This is my very first all tube amp and for a 22 watt amp it is plenty loud enough! I spend most of my time in the Triode Mode which is 11 watts and that is plenty most of the time. This amp has great sound for a 400 dollar amp.I love the clean Channel, headroom is great especially with the boost switch engaged.
Distortion channel is great for classic Rock ,although I wouldn"t call it a metal amp,but you can use pedals on the clean channel to get good grit if you want that much distortion.Reverb is very useable.A great value for the money! Get one ,you wont be disappointed!

Yes its that good

By Ed from El Paso on September 13, 2019

I can't estimate how long I spent searching for my first amp. I know I wanted tube and I wanted to spend under $1000. Put this against any sub $1000 Fender, Marshall, Blackstar, you name it and you can't say that they have a better clean tone than this Bugera. I liked the gain channel on some other amps but the Bugera is still good, you could buy any gain pedal with all the money you saved. It has an open back so you can even upgrade the speaker easily even though the stock one is great. I love it and you will too.

Great Tube amp for the money

By Sam Krubish from Michigan on August 20, 2019 Music Background: Professional musician

Not only does it sound good, it is a solid unit with great features. The fact that it comes with a foot pedal is a great bonus. This thing cranks and has a remarkably clear and crisp sound, especially playing it clean.

I also love the vintage look and style.

Oh Yeah!

By Terry Hoffman from Kansas on August 4, 2019 Music Background: Professional musician

I'm an old tube amp player because of my age and, because when I started playing that's all there was. Throughout the years of being a professional musician I've played many different types and, brands of amps and, I will admit that I have been giging with a Boss Katana 100, full long pedal that activates the effects and, channels with your foot. That's just the way I roll. I've went a long time really wanting to try another tube amp and, rekindle the fire that I remembered back in the 60's.
I had some gear that I really wasn't using that much so I decided to liquidate it and, see if I could get enough to get into a tube amp again. I did and, I started shopping around to see what was available and, try them out. First thing I discovered was (some) tube amps command a heavy price and, have very few effects, reverb and, maybe some tremolo. That meant a small pedalboard because all I wanted was just a few to spice things up every now and then. I knew I didn't need a powerful amp because tubes act way different than solid state. Fender Blues Jr., Vox AC-15, and, a 20w Marshall were in the running and, then I came across this Bugera, lower price, footswitchable channels and, reverb, dual power mode and, Great Vintage looks. The search was over I found my amp. I have done several gigs with this amp and, each time I use it I find something that just makes me smile and, inspires me to want to play more and, more.
I'm having a 60's flashback and, loving it! I have a clean boost pedal on my pedalboard and, the first time I kicked it in on a classic rock song that my band was playing I could not believe the sweet overdrive sound that I was hearing and, I waved to the guys for 1 more solo, man I was in heaven!!!! I didn't even use the drive channel and, I had it set on the 11w setting. Overdriving the preamp section just a little resulted in that absolute sweet overdrive sustaining sound! All I could say was WOW! My bass player and, drummer told me that was the best sound they had heard me play on a solo for quite awhile! I definately agreed with them.
I Love this amp! I may buy another for a backup and, the Katana's future may be in jeopardy.

Bugera V-22

By Nevin Waterfield from Lititz, PA on July 29, 2019 Music Background: Sing in working bands.

I absolutely LOVE my Bugera V-22!!! It is a fantastic amp. I have a Mesa Boogie DC-3 and a Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12 and the Bugera is my favorite. The amp is simple to use, has a great clean tone and a killer drive channel. So much better than my Fender Hot Rod.

It"s a nice size for taking to friends houses to play. It"s a nice portable size and plenty loud. Great amp for an amazingly low price!!!

Great tube combo, regardless of price.

By Sweetwater Customer on May 4, 2019

Like most people, I was initially drawn to this amp by the low price point. So I read a bunch of reviews, watched a bunch of videos, and was eventually convinced enough to give it a shot.

I am very glad that I did. I have been fortunate enough to own and/or have access to some very iconic amplifiers over my playing career. Marshalls, Fenders, Voxes... the usual old stand-by's for rock music. As well as some other smaller companies and some fun hand made stuff.

Based purely on tone, this amp very much belongs in the conversation with comparably featured amps that are around twice the cost. I really don't view it as a budget amp... just an amp. It's got it's own sound and character. As others have noted... it lands somewhere on the spectrum between a Fender and a Vox. It is EASILY loud enough to be giggable. And versatile enough to handle a wide range of music. Its got a lot of clean headroom so it takes pedals as well as anything I've ever played.

One thing in particular that I can say I am very pleased with that I was not expecting... is that it has a very sweet, musical quality to single notes high on the fretboard. Ya know... all them guitar-solo notes. It sounds better up there than most Fenders I've ever run across. And much more full sounding in the upper register than the Marshalls I have owned/played (several JCM series). I have also found the reverb to be very useable when set to about 5. Not overpowering but present. And I usually dislike reverbs in general.

The clean channel and dirty channel are both VERY useable. But I have settled into a sweet spot of using the clean channel (master volume cranked) with an OD pedal for my main sound... then kicking over to the dirty channel for my leads. For my sound... I typically don't push the gain on the lead channel past 3 or 4. And if I was looking for a HEAVY sounding amp... I would probably look elsewhere as this amp can get a little thin and buzzy with the gain cranked... but I would say the same about most Fenders and Voxes as well.

Like most EL84 powered amps... it really shines when you really open up those tubes and let that natural breakup come through. For classic rock tones... It's definitely one of the better amps I've ever played.

Don't let the brand name or the low price scare you away... this is a very worthy amplifier. Try one out. You just might discover you prefer how it sounds over some of the "nicer" amps you are considering.

Best for a while

II bought a Bugera V22 Infinium amp from Behringer. Sounded great for about 6 months then developed sound issues. After 6 months of trying to fix it I deposited it in my garbage can. Problem solved.

I've played for 45 years. Spend a few more bucks. Pretty disappointed I loved this thing to begin with but it fell apart with little use.

It Simply Rocks!

By Sweetwater Customer from CO on April 4, 2019

I have had other guitar players come up to me and tell me that that this amp sounds every bit at good at their Fender Reverb or Other much more expensive amps. Another career pro musician once told me has never heard such a great amp for the money and he would stack it against his amps that cost thousands $$$. This amp is a fantastic pedal platform! Super clean and lots of headroom before it breaks up. I will say I dont particularly care for the high gain channel. It get muddy quickly. I get great distortion and over driver tones with my pedal board using this amp as a clean platform. This will keep up with the loudest drummer or loudest band, no problem. I run it a 5 on Pre and about that on the Master Volume. More than enough to be heard over the band. Sounds somewhere between a Fender and a Vox amp. If your are on a budget You'll love it! You'd probably love it even if your aren't on a budget. Its just a great sounding tube amp!

GREAT LOOKING RETRO AMP

All there is to say about this amp is FANTASTIC sound(s) LOOK AND PRICE! I was fishing around for a tube amp after moving and I saw the smaller 5 watt version of this and thought I might as well get the 22 watt model, not thinking I would stop there.I thought for sure I will get this to hold me over then give it to one of the kids,no way I will let this out of my sight or ear-shot! I have scrapped my fender amp plans and with the money I saved bought a New 61 Gibson SG re-issue from Sweetwater and my private sales person Matt M.Anyone that has not tried one of the Bugera models should and save your money and buy another guitar. After trying Sweetwater I will stick with them because this guy Matt called and thanked me after I bought a set of strngs and a strap, the other place never got in touch with me after I bought 5 guitars and 3 amps.Bugera amps have the most positive reviews of any tube amps and on every site they rule,go get a couple from Matt Mcgowen!

Dynamics!!

By Mitch Murray from CT USA on March 14, 2019

I"ve played just about every tube amp to hit the market since 1976, and this is one of the most responsive and dynamic I"ve come across. The gain staging is well planned out to deliver DYNAMICS. The tonal range is more than you could ask for, the reverb is a mile deep without sounding artificial and cheesy. Solid construction. Aesthetically gorgeous. The footswitch is solid with a long enough cable to reach even larger stage applications. Back to dynamics and gain staging: my Strat has come to life as I"ve never heard through other amps. Light picking doesn"t merely fall away in volume. It takes on the dynamics of the subtler nuances. Spank it harder with som heavier attack and all of those middle-mellow, bluesy, stinging tones come to life. The clean channel could use a bit of gain attenuation and crunch near the 7-10 range, but that"s why pedals are made. The crunch channel? Unbelievable. My only minor complaints - the feet being an inch or so in from the edges make it feel a little tippy, and if Bugera swapped the orange/red crystal for either blue or green, it"d be more pleasing in low light conditions. Forget the low price. It doesn"t mean "cheaply designed and built". This is the last amp I"ll ever buy. Lastly, the Bugera cover is heavy duty and I imagine might outlast most vehicle convertible tops. Go for it.

Dynamic Combo

By Mitch from CT USA on February 6, 2019 Music Background: Guitarist/producer/recording engineer

I"m blown away by the SOUND of this affordable yet well crafted and engineered combo. My main guitar is a 70"s reissue Strat modded with Fender"s Noiseless pickups. I"ve played it through a dozen amps, from a vintage Ampeg V7 to a Fender Blues Jr., and none of them brought out the dynamics of the Strat. The tonal range is perfect. I could easily rave about the aesthetics of the face, knobs, logo, color, fabric, etc. but it"s all about the sound. This is a dream for any player looking for dynamics, sparkle, killer crunch, warmth, and flexibility in a solidly made, affordable unit. I would have given it 5 stars, as the only minor drawback is the orange front panel crystal, but it"s still a beauty. It weighs in at around 40+ pounds, so it"s no lightweight as far as 1-12" combos, but the cab design and heft warm up the tone nicely.
Engineering & Design comments: The rubber feet are great for keeping hardwood floors spotless, but if they were 1/8" less deep, it would feel a bit less "tippy". The handle is solid and looks like it"d last through a lifetime of use. All of the hardware is solid and stylish, right down to the pots behind those lovely vintage chicken-head knobs. The push switches, triode/pentode rocker, and toggles are top quality. There are some vids out there of folks swapping the speaker with a Celestion et.al. I have a Celestion in my Blues Jr. and the one in the Bugera is far superior as far as tone - all across the entire dynamic range. Okay, so I used the word "dynamic" three times in this review so far. It"s no accident. This amp brought my guitar to life as no other has before. Lastly, Sweetwater"s Customer Service and knowledgeable staff are awesome. If you"re looking for an upgrade, a stage amp, a flexible studio amp, something to blow your ears away - pick this baby!

Great Professional Combo at a Great Affordable Price!

By James Kelm from Duluth, MN on January 3, 2019 Music Background: Over 40 years as a gigging professional.

I purchased the Bugera V22 combo from Sweetwater in August. I wanted to give it a nice trial before I gave a review. The following are my impressions, and I hope that they will be of value to potential buyers of this amp.

First of all, let me say that I will compare the Bugera V22 with other combos around the same price, or with those that are maybe double the price. I will not measure it against amps costing $3000.00, and $4000.00. I don"t think such comparisons are of any value, and they simply aren"t fair! I also will explain that I play a Gretch hollow-body guitar, and play finger-style music primarily as a solo act. I do not use any distortion, and therefore cannot offer any meaningful opinion on the amp"s dirty channel. I use only the clean channel.

Now for the Bugera V22 combo. I have to say that I am extremely impressed with this amp! It has become fashionable within some circles to vigorously attack Bugera amps, but I think that they have missed a company that has diligently worked to listen to their customers, and truly improve their products. I guess that they did have some issues with their first run quite a few years ago, but now are making a really great product, and offering it at a price that actual musicians can afford! Good job Bugera!

I will say that this amp does need some time to get broken in. For the first maybe month or so, I was happy with the sound, especially for the price. But once the speaker, and whatever else that has to be broken in became smoothed out, I quickly became extremely happy and satisfied with this amp! The speaker is full and warm, and offers quite a bit of bass response, although the overall sound is well balanced. The controls are nice and responsive, and don"t feel cheap. The reverb is very usable, and while it may not compare with the high priced spring units, I think that it works quite well at low to moderate levels. There are two inputs, one for regular/normal, and the second for bright. To be honest, I don"t really notice much of a difference between these two inputs. Maybe the bright is slightly less volume, but that"s about it. The amp goes from chiming bright to nice and dark quite easily however, so the different input feature is not a big deal for me.

Now where this amp really surprised me, is in the amount of headroom that is capable, again on channel one. I have not yet changed tubes, speaker, etc. The amp is completely as it came out of the box. I have had this guy"s main volume at around 3:00, and the channel volume on around 12:00. Let me tell you that it was loud! I think that it would have no trouble keeping up with a drummer, especially playing Country, Blues, Jazz, Classic Rock, and other types of music that doesn"t focus on blowing the windows out of a club. But even though the amp was really loud, the sound was clean, full, warm, and sweet! I will feel very comfortable stacking this amp up against many of the much more expensive amps, made by companies that are well known for producing a very clean tone. I am quite confident that if many of the "snobs" who enjoy hating Bugera would hear one of these amps without being able to see it, they would conclude that it is one of those big boys! Yes, I think that it sounds that good!

I can"t speak to its long-term dependability, since I haven"t owned it all that long. But it looks pretty solid, and if you are gentle with your equipment as I am, it looks like it will last a long time. It is a rather heavy amp, and while it isn"t overly taxing to lift it, it is not a super lightweight, if that matters to you. So in conclusion, if you are looking for a truly professional sounding tube amp, and don"t want to spend a rediculace amount of money for an impressive name, I think that this Bugera V22 is simply the best offering out their! Will it measure up against a $3000.00 custom made amp? Probably not. But I do think that it will stack up nicely against anything under $1000.00! If you are looking for a "real" tube amp, at a price that is affordable on a "real musician"s budget", you will be extremely happily surprised with the Bugera V22!

By Steve G from Upstate,NY on October 28, 2018 Music Background: Experienced

Amazing amp but someone made a coment that it didn't come with a cover and fenders do. I'd love to know what fenders under $1000 come witha cover? NONE is the anwser. and fow many fenders in this price range have half the features this Bugera does, NONE once again. This is the BEST amp on the market for the money, bar none.

"The One"

By Julio from Redlands, CA on October 15, 2018 Music Background: B.M. Music, M.M. Performance

I have played and owned numerous amps and gear, ranging from Fender DeVille, Deluxe, Reverb, Peavey, Crate, Carvin, Line 6, Boss modeling. I've been playing and gigging for over 19 years, and before purchasing this amp, I researched many more. I was looking for sort of a "unicorn" amp, something that had the portability of a 1 X 12 combo amp, the clean tone of a Fender Princeton (thick and punchy), the versatility of a true working amp with effects loop and channel switching, and enough headroom to use with pedals. This is it.

If Fender made a Princeton with a 12 inch speaker (some limited edition models do have them), an effects loop, slightly higher headroom (20-30 watts?), and two working channels, I would jump on it and gladly pay around $1,000 for it! This amp comes stupidly close to replicating my dream rig, and at a ridiculous fraction of the cost. $399 NEW?!? Come on! That's an amazing bargain. I use a Boss GT-100 multi-effects pedal with "4-cable method" so I can choose where to place my effects in the signal chain, hence the importance of having an amp with an effects loop since sometimes I want to use the tube pre of my amp, and sometimes I don't, primarily for my lead sounds the Boss GT-100 is killer! Having two EL84 power amp tubes in this thing allows my modeling pre amps just sing! The Turbosound speaker is AMAZING!!! I know many people have praised the speaker in this amp, but you really have to try it out to be, quite literally, blown away by it. Fantastic speaker, can't say enough about it.

Ok, enough praises - here are the CONS (not many):
1. Quality of the stock tubes; they can be replaced so not a deal-breaker, but they're terribly constructed. They sound good, and if you're lucky, you might get a good batch out of the box. But, I wasn't so lucky and had to return my first order, got a second amp and the tubes were better, but still had some microphonics come through the speaker. I replaced with some cheap JJ tubes and it sounds soooo much better, cleaner idle at low volumes, and the break up on the EL84s, oh just so sweet. Do yourself a favor, if you pick one of these up, give it a chance, get some new tubes, and be amazed (I'm glad I did).
2. Tube Cage; stupid design, inaccessible screws, need to remove the amp chassis (four screws on top and 4 on the back top) to get to the tubes. Do yourself another favor, when replacing the tubes when you get this amp (which you should do), don't put that tube cage back on, it's useless, keeps you from quickly swapping out a bad tube at a gig, and if you keep removing the head every time to replace tubes, good luck on having those wood screws on the chassis hold up over the years.
3. Doesn't come with a cover; ok, I know it's petty, but fenders come with covers and it helps keep your amp looking nicer over time. If it comes with a foot switch, which is way more expensive to manufacture, why not a cover? I had to buy one at around $20, so again, not deal breaker.

If you've made it to the end of my review, I hope you're at least interested in trying out this amp. Buy it, enjoy it, gig with it, mic it up at an arena. Save yourself a few hundred (or thousand) dollars in finding a solid tube amp.

Almost 3 years old now.

By Bill Bostwick from Cape Coral FL on September 21, 2018

I purchased my V22 from Sweetwater almost 3 years ago. Since receiving it, I've worked it pretty hard doing 8 to 14 shows a month and using it almost exclusively. Had a problem right away with the OEM tubes but remedied that with a set of J&J's. Very versatile amp with great tones on both channels. Handles pedals nicely. I've been a working musician for 50 years and have owned all of the great, classic tube amps (except for a Dumble). In my opinion, there is no better tube amp on the market, for the price, than the V22. I'm going to buy another one. Good job Bugera and Sweetwater!

Fabulous Amp

By Mark from Port Charlotte, FL on September 17, 2018

Bugera got this one right! Great sound/tone, beautiful retro look and built light a tank with a very quality fit and finish. Just unpacked mine yesterday and can"t stop playing and admiring it. Love it! BTW, returned my Marshall code 25 for the Bugera v22.

Awesome amp

By Bruce Hope from MD on September 17, 2018 Music Background: Drummer aspiring to be a guitarist

This is my first tube amp. I spent literally hours shopping for used equipment in several different brands and power ranges. While some of the reviews suggest this amp has had problems, I believe those folks were just the unlucky few. While I've only had this amp a couple weeks, so far it is flawless. No problems, rattles, tube problems etc., just pure tone, AND it's plenty powerful for my needs. I almost sprung for a v55 but I'm glad I didn't. This guy fits the power needs perfectly. This amp has much more style than the competition, and while many brand snobs would argue that it's not a Fender or ??? try one out and you'll see what I mean. Will this one last as long under pressure? Only time will tell. Controls work nicely, although, I'm still trying to figure out what Presence does. Sweetwater, and my sales tech Craig were awesome as well. Had the amp in two days, in great shape, with good followup from them. If you want a tube amp that won't break the bank, with nice features and a great vibe, try this guy out. I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

Love it

By Zz on August 31, 2018

I Just bought an "older" V22 and i love it. No issues, love the clean channel as i use mostly pedals in front of it. Theres quite a few amps that sound good with my super bright ibanez, but the V22 is just what i was looking for.

Would recommend it for blues, country jazz and rock players.
Amazing amp for the price.

Great budget "Boutique" Combo

By Peter Mc Ardle from Malone NY on June 9, 2018 Music Background: 40 years music background in bands plus casual

Great job Bugera and Sweetwater for carrying this brand. For 22 watts this thing is plenty loud enough, will fill a small club-100 people or so-if any bigger you can always mic through the PA. Clean channel is great, I can get just about any tone from my Les Paul Jr with two humbuckers, my Dot studio with SD Phat Cat p90's and my Squire Tele with Fender Vintage pups. I've only had it for 2-3 days and I'm still learning the tonal palate. I'm don't use overdrive very often, but I'm sure I'll be able to dial in some useful tones. I also have a Fender Super Champ head which has more American tones than this which is more British with the EL84"s. Don't hesitate, it's not a Fender Delux or Blues Delux reissue, but it is way less expensive than either of those, and you can pocket the rest. Take the wife for dinner, she'll appreciate it.

Great little amp!

By Noah C. Walker from Sacramento on May 29, 2018

...Great company! Anyway, this is my very first Tube amp, and I'm blown away! I'm still learning about it, but I can't believe the tone that comes out of this amp. And , it's LOUD when you need it to be. I haven't changed anything on it other than taking the tube cage off. I read somewhere that it would rattle, and it did. It's all good now. I've also played my Lee Oskar Harps through it, and it sounds Great! This amp met my budget and talent needs at this time. So far I'm a Happy camper!

Great amp, but prepare to replace tubes.

By Alex Haralson from Knoxville, TN on March 29, 2018 Music Background: 25+ years of live and studio sound, 20+ years of film/TV production sound and post audio, 25+ years as a performing musician.

I"ve waited a while to review this amp to be sure that I"d put it through its paces. Don"t be devceived by the price tag: this thing is inexpensive, but it packs a punch.

Overall, the amp sounds great. It clear, clean, and offers floor-rattling lows. 22 watts of tube power puts out tons of sound. The built-in reverb is rich and detailed. Its retro design is a nice touch on top of a great sound.

The V22 Infinium does have its challenges, but these are relatively minor in the long run:

The built-in distortion is a one-trick pony. It"s crunchy and doesn"t have much ability to be shaped. It is what it is, great for the heavy stuff, but not versatile. No matter, as I keep a Blues Driver in my rig.

The cage around the tubes is a terrible design that is nearly impossible to remove without first removing the 12" speaker in order to get to the screws on one side. This is poor planning by Music Group"s R&D, since tubes eventually go bad an need to be replaced - and some musicians like to customize their tubes anyway - and having to take the whole thing apart to access two small screws is more than frustrating. Which brings us to the tubes...

The factory tubes don"t sound bad out of the box, but there are several reviews on Sweetwater that reference tubes going bad quickly. The tubes in my amp went bad with just a few hours of use. I"d already replaced the power tubes with JJs, and then the 12AX7s all went bad. It"s all JJ tubes now, and those honestly sound better than the Bugera tubes.

In all, this is a stellar purchase... a gem in the inexpensive amp bracket. I recently had to use a Fender on a gig and was disappointed by comparison.

The V22 Infinium is very much worth consideration, even against more expensive amps. Lots of power, clean sound, rich lows. Go into it knowing that you"ll be upgrading the tubes and you won"t be disappointed.

BEST AMP

By Rocker Dan from Midwest on January 26, 2018

This amp IS the best amp out there. Not just the best amp for the money but the BEST amp period! If it works and most do but may need to have the tubes steadied because of shipping I found the amp actually settled down and the tubes were a bit loose a friend came over and taped with a pencil and tubes were fine. I have heard that some people replace the tubes but I think they are great and judging from the sound coming from this gem I am very happy! I have had Fender's,Peaveys and even a Line 6. For a tube sound there s no beating this and the vintage look is killer. A great amplifier.

Sweet Little Amp That Can

By William Anderson from Bogota, NJ on December 30, 2017 Music Background: Semi-Pro Multi-Instrumentalist, Composer, and Singer/Songwriter

I read the reviews before buying, and listened to the demos. I have ot say, now that it's here, it's even better than I expected. Thinking it might not have enough distorted grunt to do some metal-oriented stuff, I put the Mesa-Boogie V-Twin in line between my guitar, and the amp. Put it on clean mode, adjusted the volume, treble, etc...

Whoa! Awesomely rich, and warm, acoustic tones! Okay, clean sound is so important, but what about driven? WHOA! This thing does saturation right. Nice and tight, focused, and raunchy! I've decided that the V-Twin pedal is going on the auction block, as this beauty fulfills my every need. I haven't even popped in the set of JJs I plan on installing Tuesday, and I may not even have to. Out of the box, this wonder is giving me tone six ways until tomorrow.

I'm very pleased, and my Sweetwater guy, Scott Brobst, made everything hum smoothly from order to delivery. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Good amp for me

By Sweetwater Customer on December 13, 2017

I got this a few months ago. I've happy with it. I wanted a simple tube amp after having digital ones. Also one I could afford. This amps sounds good to me. I use it at church in a medium sized room. I don't have to crank it in there. I've yet to use it our my regular band except in practice, but that's been good. I also play harmonica through this on the dirty channel and I think it sounds great.
I'm not a pro in ability, but this is more than adequate for me.
It is pretty heavy though.

Solid Amp but a little disappointed

By Austin Barker from Indiana on December 1, 2017

I really like this amp. I think it has been a wonderful amp for me the past 2.5 years. I toured with this amp for a few months and I noticed a spinning sound and it was not appealing to my ears at all. I hadn't turned the volume up more than to 5 and when I took it in to get worked on the technician said that the speaker was broken. There were some other issues with the PCB board and things that shouldn't have been a problem. Luckily, Sweetwater is amazing and they did $90 worth of repairs because it was under warranty. I don't know if my has just been a dud or if Bugera amps just have manufacturing issues altogether.

Great amp, and can be made even better1

By Gerry Gilmore from Dahlonega, Ga on November 21, 2017

First, I must give a shout-out to Connor Smith, SE Extraordinaire at Sweetwater for putting up with me AND delivering superb Customer Service(TM), almost unheard of in today's corporate America.

To this amp, I had a bad pre-amp tube at the outset, but had a spare handy so no problem. As shipped, the amp is really, really good. As others have noted, the clean sound is great, but the drive channel is meh-ish.

Even with that great clean sound, though, I felt something was a bit on the thin side that the EQ could not compensate for. On a whim, I put a Bad Cat speaker in (around $150-$200) and...just freaking Wow!! I could not believe the difference! I'd expected a slightly more fattish sound and it delivered not only that, but many, many more dimensions to the sound than I had expected.

With the new speaker, tweaking that great Bugera EQ tone stack becomes an experience of tonal variety that is just incredible to hear. Sure, the Robert Cray still sounds super-clean, but the ZZ-Top Fandango can be had through the clean OR drive channels! Whoa! JJ Cale....just an EQ/gain adjust and you're right in the groove.

Basically, by combining this awesome-as-is Bugera V22 Infinium with a Bad Cat speaker, I got what sounds to me 100% identical to a $1500+ amp… (and having a great-sounding spare EV speaker to boot) total! I'll call that a win. :-)

Great tone, well built, awesome style

By Dennis from Spokane, WA on September 18, 2017 Music Background: playing for many years, many styles

Great experience all around. Started with double box packaging with full color inner box, great if it's going to be a gift.
Could tell it was well built when I lifted it out of the box. Footswitch was included. Very cool retro looks with chicken head dials.
Powered up and the power and tone were as good as amps costing many times more. Lots of ways to shape the tone clean or crunch for playing style. If the special circuit prolongs tube life, that's great.
My only concern is, how do they do it? This has the sound, look and feel of a top quality amp at a very low price. What gives? You can buy one to keep as a back up or just enjoy a great amp.

The more I use it the more I like it

By BobV from New Jersey on August 14, 2017

I haven't had this amp very long and haven't had a chance to take it through the paces but so far I'm liking it more and more. I'm getting really good clean tones out of it. The reverb is great in that I set it a little above 3 and it just makes the sound fuller without hearing the reverb. I haven't used channel two yet so I can't give any details on that or the boost at this time. I've been concentrating on clean sounds for now. I'm very happy with this amp so far. I am using this amp in a wet/dry setup with my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Both amps compliment each other very well and sound great together. This amp also has some power to it when you need it. This amp works for me. Great for the price.

Burgers V22 Amp

Awesomeness!

By Pete N on June 16, 2017

Just got this delivered today! Opened it up, leveled out the tone settings, set gain to 4, turned to half power with the triode switch and played some tunes. I was impressed. Clean channel is warm with some nice bright tube tones and hit the footswitch and you get that nice crunch which can be a little or a lot. For the price point, I think this was a good purchase for a tube amp considering the price tag of other big brands. And you get a nice footswitch to boot! Why should that be an optional more $ item on top of an already high price...

Excellent Value, Exceptional Tone

By Thurman Storing from Paris, AR on June 12, 2017

This is quite possibly the best tube amp one can buy under five (maybe even six, seven) hundred dollars. Cosmetically, it's an attractive looking amp, somewhat resembling a boutique amp that costs 15x as much. As for controls, the Bugera V22 comes packed with many different options including a drive channel, EQ (bass, middle, and treble), mid boost, presence control, and a usable digital reverb. As for tones, this amp is impressive. Despite being 22 watts, it's a very loud amplifier. The V22 has qualities that are reminiscent of both Fender and Vox amplifiers but the V22 retains its own tonal character. The clean channel is beautifully clear for a low-wattage EL-84 based amp. The amp can easily conjure up great vintage rock, smoky blues, and country-flavored tones within minutes. The V22 also features a bright channel and a pentode and triode mode as to not wake the neighbors or provide new means to experiment with volume and pushing the amplifier at a reasonable master volume. The amplifier also takes pedals incredibly well and has an effects loop.

There do exist some issues but they are mostly minor. While the V22's drive channel is usable, it does lack a certain punch and can seem a little fizzy at times. However, this is nothing that adding a tube screamer or overdrive pedal can't fix. Also, I highly recommend having the stock tubes in the amplifier switched out by someone who knows how. One of the stock Chinese tubes went microphonic within minutes of unboxing and playing. A set of JJ's really opened up the dynamics. While the amplifier allowed me to dial in single-coil guitars (strat, tele) easily, humbuckers proved more challenging (Les Paul, Epiphone Dot). Given time, however, I found settings that I enjoyed for humbucker-based guitars. Also, the V22 is not an amplifier for the metal crowd. It's a vintage voiced rocker not a high-gain destroyer. The Bugera line of amps also have a notorious reputation for subpar quality control but I have not experienced any issues (other than the microphonic tube probably caused by shipping) in the eight months I have owned the V22. From reading others reviews, it seems as if Bugera has done much to improve the reliability of their products.

In conclusion, despite some (fixable) issues, the V22 is an affordable and impressive amplifier that has a variety of different tonal options and features. I tested the V22 against a Vox AC-15cc and felt the Bugera easily went toe-to-toe with that amp and even bested it in many regards. Dont be fooled by the fact that it doesn't have a popular or boutique company name plate bolted onto the speaker cloth. The Bugera V22 is a seriously underrated (and maybe even under appreciated) amplifier that can benefit new and seasoned guitar players alike.

Con: Needs better inspection. One of the transformers looks like it was dropped on the ground then mounted. It has a dent and scuff marks.

took off .5 because there is a 6in scratch down the side of the amp- but nothing bad.. not worthy of a return imo.. adds character ;)

Entry Level Tube Amp

By Keegan on April 13, 2017

I've owned this amp for a little over two years and was looking for the cheapest tube amp I could find. I had previously owned a Fender Deluxe Reverb, which I had to sell in order to pay for my wedding. In my experience with this amp, it does have "tube tone", but I would classify this amp as an entry level tube amp. While this amp gets plenty loud, the tone doesn't even come close to touching that of the Fender Deluxe Reverb. The tone seems very two-dimensional compared to that of other higher quality, more expensive tube amps I have played. Also, the build quality isn't the best. The channel switch button fell off of mine, and somehow the foot switch doesn't work anymore to switch channels. If you want to make the jump from solid-state to tube amps and have a limited budget, this could be a good option for you. But, if I were you I'd probably save a few hundred dollars more and invest in something a little bit higher in quality.

great and all, but...

Bugera V22 Infinium

By Michael C from USA on March 23, 2017 Music Background: Have played for 40 years.

I've owned several amps in my lifetime, and while I can't knock any of them, this amp blows me away! Wish I had it way back when I was gigging! You just simply can't buy boutique looking amp that performs the way this one does for the money! In fact, it would be a great deal at twice the price (you didn't hear that Bugera)!

Unless you're just wanting to spend a lot of money, buy this baby... you won't regret it!

FANTASTIC AMP! A BEST-BUY FOR SURE!

By Wild Bill from California on January 30, 2017 Music Background: Classic Rock, Country and even 50's.

I've owned many many amps in my career - from Marshall to Mesa. I am telling you, this amp is truly first-rate regardless of it's very reasonable price for an all-tube amp.

I use a Boss GT-100 FX pedal, so I have everything I need in a single pedal, so I do not use the reverb.
I plug into the clean channel and set the input to pretty much full tilt. Treble almost off. And it rocks. I can go from a feisty clean to a rockin' hard sound no problem.

You can NOT go wrong with this buy. I like the looks too. I always prefer the knobs to be facing me instead of top or back so I can see at a glance the settings. And it properly has a stand-by switch.
Ya don't need anything else any fancier believe me!

A Killer!

By Simon Sundberg from Spring Arbor, MI on December 26, 2016 Music Background: Student slowly turning Pro

A phenomenal amp with a multitude of clean and dirty sounds - works very well for Chicago electric blues sounds ala Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, etc. Responds well to pedals - I run a five-pedal Jimmy Hendrix-influenced rig through it and it takes them like a champ. Other amps have NOT worked well with the same setup. It is quite loud for its size; I've used it for both practice and gigs (without an extension cabinet). I prefer the Pentode mode, as it seems fuller than the Triode mode.

Overall, I highly recommend this amp - I love it!

Bugera v22 is a must buy

By Zach Haefner from Menomonee Falls WI on December 12, 2016

First of all, the price. The price was amazing for what this amp is, and that's an all tube amp at 22 watts, for $. Second, the sound is just amazing. I owned the V5 before upgrading to this one and I have only played this amp once since I got it yesterday, the first impression is always the most important. And I was absolutally blown away. And last, this thing is built very good, it's heavy, but it's worth it. I love my new amp!!

I have been searching for an amp like this for years. I started playing guitar seriously in my late 30s and I am now 48 but it my time I have had jcms ,blues deville, blackstar, vox etc.I could never hear that sound in my head ,no matter what pedal I used or speaker or valves.
I just wanted something to play at home as these days I don't have much time to commit to a band. This thing has just blown me away .The clean channel is warm and bright and what ever pedal I put through it ,it sounds great .The overdrive channel is also nice for blues and rock. I don't think it's a metal amp.It also looks great, very retro and it looks well built. I am not sure if I will have the chance to crank it up in a band situation but I am pretty sure it will handle it well.
If you have the chance to get one don't hesitate, you will not be disappointed.

VERY Happy with this Amp!

By David Smith from AZ on November 8, 2016 Music Background: A/V church tech fo 20+ years, aspiring guitar player

I used to have a mid-60's Fender Reverb Amp that was all tubes. When I went to college, I sold all my gear. Now that I'm retired, I'm getting back into guitar. I looked & listened to some solid-state amp, but didn't like their tone. I started looking at re-issue amps using tubes. Most were way too expensive and too large for my needs.

One of my favorite guitarists is David Gilmour. By accident, I came across his "Gilmourish" website. One of his pages talks about amps.

After I saw this, I did further research and decided to try it. I am very pleased with the tone and solid build of the amp - box & all. At 43 lbs. it is no light weight.

Good jazz amp.

By Josh King from Bruceton, TN on October 29, 2016

Might make a great jazz amp. Cleans are thick and good response. Clean channel stays clean even at a cranked volume which is a problem for me. I want an amp with more breakup. Maybe its the 80w speaker but I don't know. The amp is not bad per say just not my style.

Fantastic!

By Dave Smith from AZ on October 15, 2016 Music Background: Church Sound Tech, New Guitar Enthusiast

I thought I was buying a "small" amp. This thing is a tank! The 43 lb. listed weight should have clued me in. Really nice sound both clean and with gain boost (distortion). I really like the effects loop. I have plugged in my DigiTech RP300 XP and it works & sounds great.

Very pleased with the purchase.

I own an American made Peavey Classic 212 (4-12ax7s, 4-EL84s). V22 produces same tones, clean and overdrive channels. NOT a grab and go amp, weighs in at just over 50 lbs. A Blues Jr. is 31 lbs. Note of reference for us 50+ players :(

Great tube tone

By Ryan from NH on September 3, 2016

Great tube amp. A few minor things to take care of once you receive it. Remove the speaker so you can remove the tube cage. It rattles and it will need to come off once the tubes fail. Do not overreact when you play a chord and hear a strange rattle, just the tube cage which appears to only be installed to protect tubes during shipment. 2nd, order a set of replacement tubes because its only a matter of time. High end replacement would cost what this amp costs new, so it appears booger uses inexpensive tubes from the factory...they had to cut something in a $400 amp, which is fine by me. I probably would have retubed it anyway, even if stock tubes didnt fail after 30 days. This is great little amp with awesome tone that would normally cost double or triple the cost of booger to achieve. I installed JJ tubes and this amp CAME ALIVE. Very impressed, plenty loud enough to rehearse or gig with a drummer (mic required for large rooms).

Love it

By Julian from Tennessee on August 30, 2016 Music Background: extensive, I'm almost 55

I did not buy this from Sweetwater, I bought lots of other stuff from them and they rock. Mine was B stock and Infinium, plus Bugera older speaker. The new amp with the new speaker sounds great. However, I bought a Celestion B stock from Sweetwater and new tubes from JJ electronics. This amp is sweet!!! Buy a new one and it already has the newer speaker, tubes aren't too bad anyway.
Really love this amp, and the footswitch. Why should you have to purchase an additional footswitch? Many amps require just that, not Bugera. This amp gives a great classic rock/blues tone without any pedals. I have a few pedals that I run into it and it sounds super sweet. Mine is set in Triode mode usually so I can really push it, even at home. It's not a vintage AC30 or Fender but for the price, it could be. I use a Tele, Strats and Les Pauls, sounds good with them all. Had I bought it from Sweetwater I know customer service would have been awesome. I have bought a bunch if stuff from Sweetewater over the past 5 years and they've always been first class. I also like this amp a lot. I started playing in England in 1978, when old Marshalls and Vox were super cheap. This amp has it all going on

What an all around champ!

By Don on August 28, 2016

For the price, you'll be hard-pressed to find another amp with this many features. The one thing that everyone who does research on these amps wonders: what about the quality? I can only attest to the V22 that I own. I traded a guitar for this amp some time ago, so I received the amp 2nd hand. To this day (and knock on wood), I haven't had a problem with it at all. For 22watts, it's loud. The 2 channels, offered reverb, and bass/mid/treble/presence controls are just a small insight into how flexible this amp gets. Furthermore, the option of triode/pentode just makes this amp incredibly versatile. Throw in the effects loop and 2 different options for input (normal vs bright), and you'll find that you can experiment for days on this amp. I am absolutely astounded by its playability. Yeah, it's no Marshall/Fender/Mesa, but for the money, you really can't find a more well-rounded, versatile tube combo amp!

Bugera WOW !

By Josh R from Santa Cruz CA on August 10, 2016 Music Background: Playing guitar since 1971, Blues, and Southern Rock

I just received my Bugera V22 Infinium from Sweetwater this morning.Fed Ex takes such good care of these deliveries. Even the outer box didn't have a scratch. I knew I was going to like it,but I just didn't know how much. I plugged my Strat into the normal channel.Used the footswitch that comes with it ,and started with a clean sound. Right away ,that beautiful airy single coil tube chime came right through, then stomped on the footswitch for leads and that overdriven but controlled tube growl was music to my ears. These are the sounds that I thought you could only get from Thousand dollar plus amps. How do they do it for $400? It's a beautiful thing. I can't say enough about Sweetwater. This amp was not my first choice, but it was the best choice . Brian, and Zack made sure that I was happy, and got the amp I really wanted, and it's now clear that this was the amp I really needed.Cannot thank you guys enough. You are a class act. This was a great experience ,and I'll be back for more.

First Tube Amp

By Ryan Minor from MI on July 9, 2016

Within the past year or so I have been playing lead guitar more and more in live situations. Nothing big just small jams at bars and such. I knew the time was coming where I was going to need a real amp. I was looking for an all tube combo with 2 channels and a fx loop and found this I was very hesitant with the price it looked way too good to be true... finally I had to make a decision on something as I was asked to play with a band at a 4th of July celebration. I ordered this from sweetwater knowing how good there customer service is. Received it, plugged in and warmed the tubes up and was impressed! played for an hour before taking it down to it first jam night... after a few songs in the light started flashing and it got very hot smelling. I contacted Sweetwater and they told me it sounded like more than just bad tubes and sent me a whole new amp that I received two days later!! Very carefully and nervously I tested this one out hoping I wouldn't have the same problems and so far so good, it made it through the rest of the month and played through the 4th of July gig last week and I've been very happy with it!...... My advice is if you really want to give this amp a try, go for it! just make sure you have the patients to get one that works properly. Im aware of the quality problems this Amp has had and I just wish Bugera.. or Behringer.. or whoever would just bump the price up a hundred bucks and make it a little more reliable! if you can get one that works though, it is very worth it in my opinion! Thank you Sweetwater for your great support and service!

Love this little Booger

By Lance from Denver, Colorado on June 25, 2016

I'm really blown away by this little guy!!!
First things first, I use this guy only in the studio. I bought it because my other amp blew a filter a cap, and I'm in the middle of recording an ep for a client. I had never heard it or played through it before it arrived, but the reviews were just too good so I took a chance. Boy, am I glad I did!!!!!
This Booger has some unique features you dont find on amps of this price range. Firstly, it uses el84 tubes, which are smaller and less powerful then Thierry big brother the el34. Not a lot of companies use this gem of a tube, but they are really cool. If you already own an amp with el34 or 6l6 tubes, this guy will fit nicely in between. Has a different character than the other two, an old school clean like a vox, but much more adjustable. The tubes break up early which I love!
The pentode/triode switch is really cool! In a lot of ways it's like 2 different amps. Haven't had a chance to try out the Infinium thing as ,surprisingly, I got tubes that actually work. However, when I do retube I know it'll be a bugger to get to. A great little speaker in this guy too. Mics up easily, and really easy to dial in.
Sweetwater has been great to work with. Will be ordering more gear soon!! :-)

Great amp, great price...and great service!

By Ed from South Carolina on June 3, 2016

Got my new Bugera V22 amp yesterday—only two days after I ordered it! Talk about quick service. And the free shipping? Well, that’s the icing on the cake.

The amp is wonderful. Clean, bright, way loud enough for my home and I’m convinced it would work very well on gigs—loud enough for smaller clubs and miced for larger venues.

This amp really rocks. Clean is delicious…throw it over to high-gain and there’s some power and grit I never got out of my sold state amp. It’s going to be real fun discovering all the voices this amp can sing with!

Only one negative I’ve found to the Bugera v22: When it comes time to replace a tube (read on), you’ll have to go through all kinds of contortions to remove the tube cage. One of the screws holding the cage was so difficult to get to that I had to disconnect and pull out the speaker before I could get to the screw. That’s bad design. And that tube cage? Well, it’s gonna gather dust in the bottom of my closet.

That aside, this is the best amp on the market for less than $400. And I think it may be better than many others priced at two, three times as much…maybe even five times as much! Find one at a local guitar store. Try it…then buy it from Sweetwater!

Why Sweetwater?

First, my sales guy, James Masterson. He has never pushed me to buy anything, but he’s a master at helping me look at the pros and cons on the gear I want. If I have questions, he has the answers—if not, he’ll find the answer and get back to me…quickly. I feel that when I’m talking with James, I’m talking with a friend who has my best interests at heart. He’s never disappointed me and that matters a lot to me.

Second, the service. When I cranked up my Bugera, it sounded great for the first 10 minutes or so. Then I noticed a problem with the sound. Some bad “after effects” when I played a chord or a lead. Ouch! I had no idea what it was but I was really in panic/depression mode for a few minutes…especially after the yellow light on the front of the amp began flashing! I called James and he listened to my problem, immediately referring me to the tech/repair department. When I reached them—two minutes before time for them to close up shop—the tech stayed on the phone with me (for at least 10 minutes) and talked me through some steps to help diagnose the problem. He was courteous and patient and very clear in his instructions, helping to calm me as I went through the testing steps he gave me. We discovered it was a bad preamp tube. He said he’d send one right out to me…and they would overnight it at no extra charge! Now…that’s what I call real customer service! I couldn’t be happier.

And, with Sweetwater, there’s always the free shipping I mentioned earlier.

I really like dealing with these guys!

Nice little amp

By GhostCat from Maine on May 23, 2016 Music Background: Pro since 1980m...Original's, classic rock, modern rock, blues and blues rock ....

I've owned many amps both solid state and tube and this one here is waaaaay above many that I've owned in both quality tone and craftsmanship ....
It's my go to gig and practice amp now.
It's great for classic rock and blues and points in between but I wouldn't really consider it for metal but that's my 2 cents worth.
All in all, it's a very nice quality bargain.

Great sounding amp.

By Warren from San Antonio on March 14, 2016

4.5 stars because of the strange rattle every so often. I'll replace tubes when I finish troubleshooting. Great cleans, reverb, very usable gain channel, works great with all digital and analog pedals. Also, great versatility the mode switch doesn't just knock the watts down to 13, it's very percussive. Ridiculous price for a great amp.

Buy It Now!

By Bill B. from Florida on March 3, 2016 Music Background: Pro/Semi Pro Musician 45 yrs.

Just purchased/received the V22 from Sweetwater. I've played professionally and semi-professionally for 45+ years and have owned 'em all. Tweeds, Blackfaces. Marshalls, Soldano, Vox etc. I've used Vox all tube combos (AC50, AC30 & AC15) exclusively for the last 10 years. In researching smaller (lighter) tube combos, I kept coming across the Bugera V22 with very positive reviews. I figured for $400 to my front door, I'd take a chance. Right out of the box the thing is friggin awesome in all respects. With my Tele, Strat, Les Paul and a little MXR Dyna Comp, I have no complaints period. Both channels sound great. EQ is very responsive, build quality appears very solid and tastefully done. In my opinion, the V22 will hold its own against tube combos costing 2 or 3 times as much. Do yourself and your tone a favor and check out the V22 combo.

Bugera V22 Infinium combo amplifier

By Dave Maskell from Santa Clara, CA on March 2, 2016 Music Background: Classic rock

This amp has a great retro look and sounds fantastic and all for a very reasonable price. At a modest 22 watts, it is surprisingly loud and cuts through the band mix with ease. The amp has incredible tonal range with lots of top end bite. The bright channel, with gain set at 6 or 7, absolutely sings with a sweet, creamy tone and eagerly slips into harmonic feedback. Outstanding value for money!

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars for this amp is that the first one I received had a defect which appeared to be related to a bad tube. I had to return the amp but full marks to Sweetwater for promptly sending me a replacement which I am delighted with. If you are looking for a compact tube amp with a great sound and vibe you should seriously consider the Bugera.

Best Tube Amp Sub $500

By Sam Dowty from Ossian, IN on March 1, 2016 Music Background: Worship Leader, Alternative, Indie

I have spent the last 4-5 months searching for the right amp. As a worship leader at my church I needed an amp that was very versatile and could go handle pedals very well. I tried every tube combo and head I could think of. From Backstar to Vox and everything in between I tried them all. I really loved the tone of the AC-15 but just could not afford that price point. Along comes the V22. This amp has all the chime and sweetness of an AC-15 with the pluses of an effects loop, triode/pentode switching, auto biasing tube sections, and a foot switchable 2nd channel. I tried it with my Gretsch Electromatic Jet and PRS SE245 as well as a friends Fender Strat and this amp shined with all three. If there were any concerns with this amp they would have to be with the second channel and the reverb unit. The second channel sounds good when pushed very hard but at low gain stages sounds thin. However, the lower gain stage stacked with another low gain pedal such as a morning glory or soul food really makes this channel shine. The reverb is very intense and has a slight tonality that I find slightly annoying but for me it doesn't really make that much of a difference because I run an external reverb in the loop. All in all this is a fantastic, versatile amp that takes pedals extremely well and cannot be beat for the $399 price point.

Best Tube Amp Value Out There

By Drew from Fort Collins, CO on February 3, 2016

I have to give this amp five stars. I was looking for a tube amp under $500 and I kept getting directed towards Fender and Orange, and then I stumbled upon this bad boy. It's got just as much kick if not more than the Fender and Oranges priced at the same value or higher. The volume is absolutely incredible. I put this thing on four or five and it fills up a room in my house with plenty to spare. There normal and bright channels have a slight difference but it's negligible. It might be a little more noticeable under some effects. The distortion is my only beef on this machine. It's a very dirty, bluesy distortion, but you can make it sound nice and rocky with a few tweaks. I haven't tried any pedals on this amp yet, I may have to edit in the future. But it really brings out the flavor of my Epiphone Sheraton II. I can't say enough good things about this amp and that guitar.

Awesome!

By Sweetwater Customer on January 10, 2016

Exceeded my expectations! Great sound! Versatile. Nice smooth and warm overdrive and nice cleans. I wanted something with good amount of gain as I play newer style rock. Sounds great with my Schecter that's equipped with EMG 81's. Very happy with this perchase. Also my MIM standard telecaster sounds amazing through this amp. Buy it!

Great Amp, Greater Value

By Mark Myers from Napoleon OH on December 19, 2015

I'm primarily a drummer but have been playing bass and guitar for several years. I started with a couple of very decent solid state amps but became more aware of their shortcomings when I tried out an Epi Les Paul 60's Tribute through a tube amp before I bought it. After that, I began to keep an eye out for a decent and relatively inexpensive tube amp.
I tried out various amps at different places and was impressed by the Bugera. I liked the sound, functionallity and the retro looks as well as the price and wound up ordering one from Sweetwater.
Sweetwater's service was stellar as usual and the amp was here within several days. While I'm a drummer and not a connoisseur when it comes to guitar gear, I know a good value when I play it. The amp has an excellent clean sound and takes pedals extreme well (right now a Way Huge Aqua Puss Delay, a Joyo Deluxe Crunch distortion and an Electro Harmonix Neo Holy Grail reverb). The dirty sound is very organic and works for blues, hard rock and about anything up to metal. As a "bedroom guitar hero" I'm very pleased with it. The presence feature and normal-bright inputs are nice features, as is the pentode-diode switch, which is great for keeping the volume down. This amp can put out some pretty serious volume, though. More than my poor old ears can handle! Highly recommended.

Bugera V22 Infinium

By ronald from escondido california on December 17, 2015 Music Background: 2 year player

when i received it i had my best friend a very experienced guitar player for 40 years bring over his Carvin V guitar and play through it and he was blown away with the sound very clean and strong even at low volume it was still there. he told me that it would be plenty for club playing and would not ever need a bigger amp. when i play through it it does not even in the same class as my peavey 30 watt vipr a lot more range than my peavey. tone is right there even at low volume. just have to wait to neighbors go to work so i can really hear it. for the price there is nothing out on the current market that will compete with it.

Suprising amp!

By Steven Stringer on December 5, 2015 Music Background: Guitar/Keys with We Are Messengers

I recently purchased this amp needing a solid tube amp while not breaking the bank. I did a side by side comparison with this and a Vox AC15C1 and personally, the Bugera had a much better sound than the Vox with more features to go with it. This amp looks great in person and has a wonderful clean tone. The drive channel is usable enough to gig with, but I prefer using my pedals on the clean channel. From what I can tell, the Infinium series has corrected most if not all problems regarding build quality. The Turbosound speaker sounds great as well. I doubt I will change it any time soon. If you have any doubts, remove them and go grab this amp before the prices shoot up on these things. I'm hoping Bugera will have a better name for itself after a few people grab these amps.

Surprised by it. Amazing amp.

By Sam on November 5, 2015 Music Background: Worship

Nothing Negative to say to this beautiful amp. Had it for a week now and I am always excited to go home from work to spend time to this beast. Sounds fantastic and it can handle any pedal I put into it. Money well spent seems like a steal no kidding.

Bugera V22

By Sweetwater Customer on August 26, 2015

Found the Bugera V22 to be the right weight and size I was looking for. Bugera's construction is excellent and it's retro look is beautifully executed. The British tube sound of the Bugera has that warm thick bodied sound everyone talks about when it comes to tube amps and the 22 amps are plenty of power these days for most situations, in the studio or the clubs/ festivals. Most of my guys insist on micing the amps so they can best mix the sound so the V22 does the job and more. The design of the control panel sports two channels and a mid range selection that was not present on other Bugera models along with a good reverb unit . The tube cage makes it a little inconvenient to get to the tubes for replacement but the tubes themselves are very well protected when it comes to how much an amp is moved about if you are a performer like I am. Well that's about it ..... yours truly ...... very pleased.

Outstanding Amp for the price

By Johnny S. from Jacksonville, FL on August 13, 2015

Upfront i will admit that I am a very novice guitar wannabe! I once had dreams of owning a blistering made in U.S.A. Fender Twin Reverb, but I have come to the conclusion that I do not need it for what I do (Trying to get the perfect Electric Blues sound) . Sitting in my bedroom this amp gives me the exact sound that I want without rattling the windows! I previously owned a Fender Blues Junior and I honestly can say (IMO) that head to head w/o any pedals, the BJ cannot touch this amp. I also own a Fender Deville 212, very nice, but very loud to get the sound that I want. For the price I would be really suprised if there is anything that can beat this amp. I am so glad that I got one before someone gets smart and jacks the price up on it. The amp looks and sounds great - I cannot speak for durability yet, but for the price I paid I think it will be alright!

5 Years Old - Sounds Great

By SDH from Tampa, FL on July 31, 2015

My Bugera V 22 is 5 years old. I have owned it for 3 years as I bought it used. I replaced the tubes upon purchase just because I didn't know the amps history. The sound from the V22 is awesome and the reverb is great. Not so crazy about the gain so I use a Boss Blues Driver pedal. Quality of this unit has been great.

Great Sounding Amp-Questionable Quality

By Felton Offard from Park Forest, IL on July 6, 2015 Music Background: Professional guitarist 25 years-recording-tours-commercials-Broadway shows

I played this amp during Gearfest and was really impressed with the sound quality. It sounded wonderful and I couldn't believe the price. Sweetwater had the head on sale and I bought that one and it had power problems. So they offered me a great deal on this amp and man did it sound good, just as I remembered. Within minutes of playing the amp, I noticed it had a strange rattle and contacted Sweetwater tech support. We couldn't figure out the problem so I returned it. Again, the amp sounds wonderful. It sounds like my Fender '65 Deluxe Reissue for a fraction of the price. They offered to replace it but after two amps I just said, "no, thank you". Incidentally, when I spoke to the Behringer rep at Gearfest who invited me to try the amp, I told him that I was dubious about Behringer quality and he told me that he understood and that Behringer now manufactures all their own parts and builds their products in one facility so their QC is vastly improved. Sorry to say I believe they still have a long way to go.

A Fantastic value.

By R. H. from Long Beach Ca. on June 29, 2015 Music Background: Active player.

I bought a demo Bugera V 22 amp for Sweetwater after using one at a local store. It arrived a few days later and I was quite impressed with the quality of the amp. It looks just great and feels solid when you pick it up. Not too heavy but not a feather weight either. My first impression of the sound was disappointing. I used a 50's Fender reissue strat and felt the amp had way too much mid range tone. Not sweet or glassy at all. The overdrive channel was loud and had great harmonics but it was not sweet sounding. I considered sending it back but after contacting Bugera they suggested the pre amp tubes may be faulty. It was a demo after all and the tubes were loose when it arrived and had to but pushed back into the chassis. It was necessary to remove the grill protecting the tubes to get at them but I got it off and I happened to have a matching set of pre amp tubes. What a difference! The tone really came alive. Bright, sweet and harmonic. Since then I have not had a single problem with the amp. Every tube amp I have ever bought has needed some attention out of the box. They are somewhat delicate instruments and don't respond well to FedEx travel.
I couldn't be happier with this amp. It has tremendous power and presence. A fantastic value.

Great First Amp

By Jeff T. from New Orleans, LA on June 17, 2015 Music Background: 30 plus years, piano, flute, sax, clarinet, drums, 6 string, bass own a strat, les and PRS 24 custom

well after 5 months, one bad tube had to be replaced ;( so 6 weeks later I get it back. great mids, you can scoop it some but you need a equalizer. also handles pedals great. got it going through my mesa 212 rectified and it gets LOUD! with pedals and patience you get use to its quirks.
clean channel 1 but you will have to balance it out as the gain is somehow wired into it? so channel 2 had ok gain up to 1985 standards. with a tube screamer or any pedal you like will work except one. blackstar ht pedal my amp couldn't handle the boost and I couldn't be within 30 feet or full on distortion! so watch what you do. this is a learning and practice amp with great attributes except one which they could improve is having to bias the tubes!
this is why I gave it a 4 but I would recommend it for country, blues, clean, and oh with my pedals, I use a red witch chorus and wampler tape going through the effects loop and my wah, and whatever else through the front and when im playing channel 2 solo lets say some Tool on my PRS or LES, when I mute, SILENCE!!!!!!!!!
must I say more, hand built, ceramic components. made to last years. wound not recommend though if you have to move it a lot then carry extra tubes and a meter to bias them. one reviewer evidently thinks tubes last! thats why your amp not sounding right
I change my tubes after 6-8months of operational time. sometimes sooner in triac mode as you only using 1/2 the tube so its harder on tubes imo.

Amazing sound, lots of options, great with pedals

By Sweetwater Customer from CA on June 15, 2015 Music Background: Playing for many years but seriously in the last few

I've had the Bugera V22 Infinium for about two weeks now and I am very happy. Along with playing solo at home, I used it for band rehearsal once and it held its own against a custom built Randall 55 watt combo, drums, and a bass. Everyone commented on how good it sounds. I will use it to play a house party in a month and I'm confident it will perform well. The clean channel is rich and warm and sounds like a tube amp should. Turn it up and it just gets better and doesn't have that splatter that you can get with lower priced solid state amps; it remains clean and clear. If I hit the gain button and turn up the gain and volume knobs I get all the crunch and dirt I will ever need. It looks great and everything feels solid including the knobs. I switch between the Triode and Pentode modes when playing with others or just practicing; it's nice to get the tubes cranking without blowing the windows out of my house while practicing.
It takes my Boss Distortion/Overdrive, Compression, and EQ pedals very well. I haven't tried the foot pedal yet for gain and reverb but I will add to this if necessary. The reverb is solid state but sounds great and can achieve that "large hall" vintage sound.
At this price point, I know I couldn't have done better. I play a G&L Legacy electric and it brings out all the great qualities of that guitar. I also play an Ovation acoustic/electric through it and it sounds beautiful.
++Shaka Dhladhla is my sales rep and he has been great. Sweetwater is going the extra mile to keep my business.

Sounds Good to Me

By Pat Brown from Round Rock on June 12, 2015 Music Background: Hobbyist

After reading the previous review. I could not disagree more. Bugera took nearly a year and half from introducing this V22 Infinium Combo at NAAM 2014 and it finally coming out. I also own the V22 Infinium Head that I use through a pair of Marshal 1x12's and to my ears I like the new Turbosound speakers better. Enough so that I'm considering by the 1x12 Tubosound Cab.
Since this Amp just came out I'm interested in others opinions but for my money this one is a winner. Enough so that I sold my Vox AC30c2 and passed up a tremdous deal on the AC15C1.

Don't be dissuaded-it's a great amp

By Mike from Missouri on June 11, 2015 Music Background: Hobbyist

Before you judge this 22-watt 1x12" tube combo amp, read ALL the positive reviews of the V5 & V55 infinium. I own both the V5 infinium (for serenading the misses in the living room) and a V22 infinium (for more punch at the low end in my music room) and find them both an exceptional value for all-tube combos. I must admit these are my 1st forays into tube power, but I really love the tonal qualities made possible by the EQ and amazing Reverb. The Tube life Multiplier Tech can only be a plus, but time will tell. Many thanks to the positive reviewers who have gone before me and helped sway my decision to purchase these amps. Ordered the V22 infinium on a Tuesday and it arrived on Thursday AM. Very satisfied with the entire process from purchase to delivery to customer service follow-up!

Frustrating

By Rom Petarli on June 5, 2015 Music Background: Singer, Guitar player, mixing engineer

First of all, I have to say that this is not exactly the amp I bought. I did buy the standard Bugera V22, not this Infinium type, which is new. However, I needed to express my opinion somewhere, and since the old V22 is no longer listed in this site (as I am typing), I’ll review it here. Moreover, the only apparent change between the two amps is the Tube Life Multiplier Technology anyways. So, summing up, I am very disappointed with this amp. It is extremely midrangy and honky, especially the drive channel. I have tweaked the hell out of the amp and tried it with three different guitars (two Gibsons and a Fender), but nothing seems capable of cutting this midrange out. Just to give you an idea of how midrangy and honky we are talking about, I am using the normal input (not the bright one), with the mid knob all the way down and mid boost disengaged, and I still have to cut some mid frequencies by 6-7 dbs with an Eq in Pro Tools when I record it. It’s funny because I remember trying one of these amps in a local guitar shop a couple of years ago, and it sounded amazing. It was slightly different though, it had the vintage Bugera speaker, not the Turbosound one that comes with the V22 now. I contacted Bugera and they claim the change of speakers was an improvement, even though the old amp I tried back then sounded much better. It doesn’t have much gain either. It works fine for classic rock, but a tube screamer would be necessary for heavier stuff. Bottom line, I either got a defective unit or it just lost quality. I am still giving it 2.5 stars because the clean channel is good, but as a rock player, there is not much use for me.
