Small Size, Huge Tone, and Impressive Playability

Small in size but big on tone, the Kala U-Bass SUB brings you a unique bass-playing experience. Plug into your favorite bass amp with the U-Bass SUB's Shadow pickup system, and you've got the full-size tone of a traditional solidbody bass guitar. Kala's proprietary polyurethane strings have a rubbery yet expressive feel that many Sweetwater bassists find very fun to play. Its small size makes it easy to transport, and the two-band EQ lets you shape your tone for a wide variety of styles. Basically, the Kala U-Bass SUB is an impressive alternative to a traditional bass guitar.

Kala U-Bass SUB 4-string Solidbody Bass Guitar at a Glance:
  • Reliable long-term performance thanks to preset intonation
  • Warm, mellow tone from polyurethane strings
  • Plug-in with great tone from the Shadow pickup system and EQ
Reliable long-term performance thanks to preset intonation

Your Kala U-Bass SUB is ready to play in tune all the way up and down the neck, right from the start. Kala uses a compensated saddle assembly that means you'll never need to fine-tune the bridge saddles for intonation.

Warm, mellow tone from polyurethane strings

Bass players at Sweetwater know many bassists prefer the sound of older strings that have been played enough to lose their initial brightness. The cool thing about the polyurethane strings on the U-Bass SUB is that they already sound like a well-worn set of strings with a warm, mellow tone. These strings will last for years, but their tone will stay the same from day one.

Plug-in with great tone from the Shadow pickup system and EQ

Expect great plugged-in tone from your U-Bass SUB, whether it's for an impromptu jam session or a live gig on stage. The built-in Shadow pickup system gives you bass and treble EQ controls to help you shape your tone for any situation, making the U-Bass SUB a versatile instrument for stage and studio.

Kala U-Bass SUB 4-string Solidbody Bass Guitar Features:
  • Compact and easy-to-play bass guitar with 21" scale neck
  • Reliably warm and mellow tone from proprietary polyurethane strings
  • Precise intonation never requires adjustment thanks to compensated saddle assembly
  • Rich, flexible plugged-in tone from Shadow pickup system with 2-band EQ
  • Gig bag included
The Kala U-Bass SUB packs big tone in a compact instrument!

Ubass Guitar

Well it is very easy to play and is very light weight to take with wherever you go. Even though I bought a demo I still think the g string is flat and doesn't have a good sound. I spoke to Steve about this and his only suggestion was buy a new set of strings. I think you guys should just send me a new g string. I could have bought a brand new one on ebay for half what I paid you guys for a used demo. Outside this I really like the sound of the Ubass and would recommend it to other bassmen or women who are looking for something a little smaller with a BIG sound. Bigfish in Southern Illinois

Kala Ubass SUB

Poor quality control on the over-seas build and set up. I had to return the first one that was shipped to me, and the second, which was worth keeping, needed some work to get it to play it's best. I did not have any issues with an acoustic ubass that I own, as well, but that could just be luck of the draw. As far as sound and tone, I recommend ditching the stock strings immediately. The pickup/preamp seems too hot for the instrument, and to get the best tone I have to roll back the volume a bit from full volume and dial the bass tone nob almost all the way back to avoid distorted or muddy low notes. This instrument is definitely not worthy of being a main instrument, rather a light weight and portable practice or hobby instrument.
