    Wonderful tone

Portable, powerful, and light. This bass is really good, especially for jazz and early rock. Strings don't cut fingers and the mellow tone can be akin to an upright bass.

    Kala U Bass

This is a great travel bass with a unique sound. When everyone else breaks out their ukuleles this is the perfect accompaniment. Stays in tune quite well and the onboard tuner is a nice touch. Feels like a quality instrument given the modest price. The only negative is the tuning pegs which should be upgraded given that this is close to the price of a Taylor GS mini.

    Lady perfect -

Being 60 and a woman - this U-Bass is perfect - easy to carry, tune and on the fingers. The drawback is it's not very loud, especially on the E string. Must use a bigger amp when jamming with others, but it's a small price to pay for the ease and convenience of it.

The Only Bass I'll Ever Play

When the advertisement says "upright bass sound" they aren't lying. This instrument has the incredibly deep warm tones I've been looking for but on a 21" scale length.

While the small acoustic body is great for practicing by yourself, you will need a bass amplifier to truly appreciate the low end this instrument produces. The bottom E string's first 5 frets are so deep that they barely register if you run this instrument through guitar or keyboard amp that doesn't produce anything below 30Hz. I've paired my uBass with a Hartke A70 Bass Amp and am getting low end that will knock your house down.

I also love the short scale length as it lets me glide quickly around and find other notes that weren't always as convenient on a 34in scale electric bass. The short scale length, however, has taken some getting used to. The shorter scale means less space between the frets and a smaller sweet spot when fretting notes. It's easy to mis-fret and get a raspy sound while you are learning your way around the uBass.

Overall, this is a fun and functional instrument.
