A Pickup for Peterson Tuners

Peterson continues to be the world leader in the development and manufacture of precision tuning equipment and intonation training devices. The V-SAM tuner/metronome and StroboStomp guitar tuner pedal combine small size and battery-operated portability with unprecedented ease of tuning.

The Suction Cup Tuner Pickup allows you to connect an acoustic guitar to a Peterson tuner for accurate onstage tuning. It provides isolation and sensitivity, picking up signal directly from a vibrating surface.

Suction cup doesn't work well.

I'm afraid that this item was a disappointment. I play hammered dulcimer, harp, psaltery, mountain dulcimer and autoharp, none of which have much of anyplace to clip on a transducer but are full of extensive flat areas which would seem perfect for pressing on a suction cup. Unfortunately the suction cup wouldn't stick to any part of the hammered dulcimer, or the harp, or the psaltery, or two of my three mountain dulcimers. It attached fine to the autoharp and stuck to the bottom of the one mountain dulcimer for about a minute and then fell off. Of course I made sure everything was clean before trying it but it was still a no go. You could always I suppose tape the transducer down but that seems silly; better off getting something that will actually work out of the box without having to futz around with it. If it attaches, as to the autoharp, it functions beautifully, sending a fine clean signal to my tuner but from my experience it appears more likely than not that it will fail to work on many or most instruments. Before purchasing this item I would recommend that you find a suction cup somewhere (maybe from a holiday decoration or a child's dart gun or whatever), and make certain it will hold on to the instrument you need it for. If you're lucky and it sticks properly it's an excellent tool and you'll be fine with it. In summary this product is a great idea but with limited practical use.
