Not only is Native Instruments' Traktor Kontrol Z1 a great sounding interface for the price, but it's also a software controller for most of the top level functions in Traktor. I've had analog DJ mixers with less functionality than this, AND you can use it with a laptop or iOS devices! The best part about digital DJing is the devices keep getting smaller and I stay the same size.
Fun, Easy, Geat
Traktor makes DJing fun and the learning curve is almost nil with the Kontrol Z1. The cueing is easy to figure out, and works seamlessly with Traktor Pro.
This controller is not a bad controller and it isn't a great controller. It does just what it is supposed to do and not a drop more. I purchased this mixer to compliment an X1 and and F1 on some smaller gigs. The build and appearance seem solid and clean however I can not speak on its durability as I have not gigged with it yet. I'm thinking that this was really meant to be more of a tactile interface for Traktor dj on the ipad first and foremost. The biggest flaw for me is the lack of browser control as having to use the X1 for this task is not intuitive and disrupts my workflow. I find I have to "relearn" the layout after using the S4 and then moving over and using the modualr setup. If you are a Traktor dj user you need this, if you are using pro or scratch you might consider other options. unless you plan on using only a Z1-X1 combo as the workflow is unorthodox. I do recommend this product based on quality and appearance as well as performing its given task, however you might want to take a moment to evaluate exactly how you plan on using it before purchasing as this controller may find itself relegated to "shelf candy" as mine is apt to do. I recommend this product based on appearance, build, and doing as it is supposed to do. I do however suggest sitting down and specifying what exactly your needs are before purchasing.
