Regardless of whose name is on the headstock, this is an amazing guitar. A departure from the standard Telecaster Deluxe, this Chris Shiflett model features a Rosewood fretboard and CS1 & CS2 pickups - this is a great way to bridge the gap between the beefy tone of humbuckers and the comfort of Telecasters!
Awesome guitar, but.....
I have had this guitar since March of 2013. It came in perfect shape. The humbuckers aren't as high output as what I expected. So, I swapped the electronics to what Shiflett's Warmoth Tele uses. A Duncan JB in the bridge, and a 59 in the neck...upgraded pots to 500k, and now this thing has my heart. Anyone looking to buy this should know that people who don't even know who Chris Shiflett is love this guitar and it can be seen from far away.
Swap out the pickups, pots, and lower the action....this is a beast.
This guitar is fantastic. I have played it almost every day since receiving it and I absolutely love it. The quality is fantastic. The humbuckers rock. It has good balance and a great feel. It is by far the best guitar I have ever owned. If you like the Foo Fighters sound, this guitar is the one for you.
Notes: 1. I play this through a Fender Mustang I and the range of tones is amazing. I love to rock, but blues, jazz, etc. are all available with this guitar and amp combo.
2. Purchasing from Sweetwater is a breeze. They are ready and able to answer all questions prior to ordering and perform a set up on all guitars. This was an added bonus as the guitar arrived ready to play.
I received my new guitar from Sweetwater and I was VERY happy with my guitar and the service that I received from Sweetwater. I am very picky about my guitars and I was promised by my sales rep that it would be in perfect condition when I receive it. When I received my guitar, all I needed to do is plug it into my amp and start playing! It was in mint condition when I received it and still in tune! I LOVE my new guitar and would tell everyone to buy their gear from Sweetwater!
One of the 1st to get one of these
This is my 2nd Telecaster - I wanted a solid rock guitar with 2 humbuckers and fell in love the minute I saw it.....quality is high - guitar is gorgeous (in fact MY guitar is the one on this site) - even the case is high quality. While this looks and feels like a Tele deluxe - this guitar is a rocker!
5 Stars with an explanation
I picked this baby up as a deeply discounted blemished model. Came in a solid (made in Viet Nam) case ... very nice ... opened the case, and I was stunned. It was gorgeous! Gloss arctic white body, with a pearloid pickguard, set against a rosewood / maple, fretboard / neck with chrome hardware and black knobs. The stock tuners are accurate, and give a vintage look. It weighs 8.25 lbs, which compared to a les Paul ain't bad ... overall ... instant love. . So at first glance I could find no blemish! Then I examined it ... Found a blob of finish on the fret board, fret ends needed filing and it needed a MAJOR set-up. So ... I got to work. Fixed the frets. Changed the strings to D'Addario 10 gauge NYXL's, adjusted the relief, set the string height (to get rid of all the buzz I had to set it at just over 4/64's, which is OK), set the humbucker height ... it became playable but ... didn't sound great. WTH! Humbuckers were hot enough, 250k pots were fine, there were no grounding issues ... but it lacked mids and lows though it had plenty of fender zing ... The cure ... string saver classic saddles 2 1/16 spread. The stock bent steel saddles it comes with are worthless junk ... Now it sounds great! Not only are there mids and lows but sustain was greatly improved... I took off the metric black toggle switch tip and put on a white one. I also swapped out the black witch hats for jazz master white ones (Not only do they look better but they are easier to read) ... The guitar now plays like butter, sounds awesome, and looks great. On the one hand, I wish fender Mexico (or the other online retailer I bought it from) gave a hoot about quality control ... But if they did I never would have been able to buy this guitar. So what's the moral? If you are handy at modding gits and can find this guy at a discount then jump on it like arctic white on a tele deluxe ... or buy from Sweetwater and save yourself the work.
