Get the Feel and Sound of a '63 Telecaster!

The Fender Custom Shop 1963 Time Machine Relic Telecaster solidbody electric guitar delivers authentic visuals in a highly playable instrument. It was in the early '60s that Telecasters were first adorned with a rosewood fretboard, and this '63 Relic Telecaster gives you the twang, bite, and vibe of the original. This axe sports sought-after vintage appointments including a comfortable 9.5" radius, 6105 frets, and a mid-'60s "oval C" neck shape. Topped off with a pair of authentic-sounding single-coil American Vintage '64 Tele pickups, the Fender Custom Shop 1963 Time Machine Relic Telecaster is a must-have guitar!

Fender Custom Shop 1963 Time Machine Relic Telecaster Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:
  • '60s Telecaster single-coil pickups provide classic Tele tone
  • Quartersawn neck gives you ultra-stability and ultra-playability
  • Relic finish and hardware for vintage vibe
'60s Telecaster single-coil pickups provide classic Tele tone

Crystal clear, smooth, and punchy - ask any seasoned Tele player at Sweetwater, and you'll get slightly different descriptions as to what this iconic guitar is supposed to sound like. Words alone can't capture the sound, but the '60s single-coil Telecaster pickups loaded in this this solidbody electric guitar certainly can. The American Vintage '64 pickups used in the Fender Custom Shop 1963 Time Machine Relic Telecaster utilize Alnico V magnets and staggered polepieces giving you a focused and balanced sound. Fender Custom Shop also fitted the 1963 Time Machine Relic Tele with their Greasebucket tone control, which rolls off highs without adding bass or affecting your volume. This is seriously cool, because it gives you explicit control over your tone onstage without you having to compensate for volume loss.

Quartersawn neck gives you ultra-stability and ultra-playability

The neck is one of the most important aspects of any instrument, which is why this Fender Custom Shop 1963 Time Machine Relic Telecaster solidbody electric guitar features a quartersawn maple neck. Besides looking good, the straight grain of quartersawn necks is about 50% more stable than plain-sawn necks, and less likely to warp, twist or shrink. Your fretting hand will appreciate the 9.5" radius that keeps things nice and comfortable for natural, relaxed arpeggio work. Take it from Sweetwater - the Fender Custom Shop 1963 Time Machine Relic Telecaster will be one of the best playing guitars you've ever owned.

Relic finish and hardware for vintage vibe

As you can imagine, a true 1963 Tele would show signs of wear and tear, and this Fender Custom Shop 1963 Time Machine Relic Telecaster solidbody electric guitar is finished to represent those years of playing. The worn finish on the body and neck, and the aged and slightly rusty hardware will make you wonder if it really isn't a true vintage guitar.

Fender Custom Shop 1963 Time Machine Relic Telecaster Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • Lightly aged Telecaster with premium lacquer finish
  • Fender's classic mid-60s "oval C" neck profile serves up outstanding feel
  • 9.5" radius and 6105 (medium jumbo) frets let you bend up high without fretting out
  • American Vintage '64 Telecaster pickups provide classic Tele tone
  • Greasebucket tone control maintains your overall gain level while rolling off highs
  • Round laminate dark rosewood fretboard true to the fine process used to prevent splitting in the early 1960s
  • Black hardshell case with red interior included
This Fender Custom Shop 1963 Time Machine Relic Telecaster is the real deal for vintage Tele fans!

Lightning strikes twice !

Earlier this year I purchased a Fender Custom Shop 1963 Time Machine Relic Stratocaster in 3 color sunburst from Sweetwater. (you can read my review of that guitar). I loved the feel and vibe of that guitar so much that I had to grab this Time Machine Relic Telecaster in sunburst to make it a pair. This tele sound good unplugged. The relic job is authentic, not overdone. The aging is perfect. I plug her into a Fender EC Vibro Champ and its instant Roy Buchanan. Plays fantastic and has the Tele bite I remember from the 60's. It's a great Telecaster, and as always, the Sweetwater team made certain I was happy with my purchase. You can buy guitars all over the WEB, but if you want to feel 100% confident about your purchase and receive a guitar that is ready to play right out of the case, buy it from Sweetwater.

Expected more from Custom Shop

Nice weight and nice pickups, great sounding guitar but out of the box the fretwork was deplorable. When I first received the guitar I knew it was a solid guitar but something seemed off in the neck feel. I hesitated and didn't return in in time so I was stuck with it. Frets seemed very unfinished and edges were very sharp. After bringing to a pro luthier who I trust and having to pay for a fret level, crown and edge re-finish it is a wonderful guitar. I do not mind having to have a pro set up a brand new guitar but I do not believe a complete fret job should be necessary even for a lower end model, but especially not a Custom Shop guitar. On the more affordable end of the Custom Shop spectrum but having to pay for the extra fret work negated the value for me.
