The American Special Telecaster gives you a great selection of cool Tele features, including a supremely playable maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, and jumbo frets, two Texas Special single-coils, and Fender's innovative Greasebucket tone control. Cut through the mix

You're sure to cut through the mix, thanks to a duo of Fender's Texas Special single-coils. These pickups give you classic tones that have been with us since the dawn of the Tele. But these pickups have a little something extra that sets the American Special Tele apart from previous Tele incarnations: Fender's way-cool Greasebucket tone circuit! If you're looking for an American-made Tele with unbeatable bang for the buck, then you need the American Special Telecaster.

Greasebucket tone control rolls off highs without adding bass

Fender has fitted their American Special Telecaster with their Greasebucket tone control, which rolls off highs without adding bass or affecting your volume. This is seriously cool, because it gives you explicit control over your tone onstage without your having to compensate for volume loss - making the American Special Tele a serious tone machine.

Go to guitar...

I've had my Telecaster for about seven months now, having purchased it as a demo model from Sweetwater in this Lake Placid Blue color. I have eight guitars in all now, but this Telecaster has been the one that gets picked up and played the most. I've owned Mexican Telecasters in the past and added Texas Special pickups to them, but they didn't sound quite as good as this one. There's just something different about any Telecaster, but the workmanship and the quality of this one makes it stand out. I have a hard time describing how I feel about this guitar. Nothing can be this good, huh? But I'm totally happy with this purchase, and this Telecaster gets played every day with increasingly satisfying results. I play through a Vox AC-15. The combination is a joy to play. Thanks, Sweetwater and Fender.

Don't know what you're missing!

After playing a gaggle of teles in shops looking for "the one", including Reissues, top end mexis, and american made, i fell in love with the special. everything about it was amazing. so i bought one from sweetwater! the neck isn't too thin or thick, the satin finish makes it easier to play and feels great, the jumbo frets make playing easier and it feels like the neck has been scalloped. You dont feel the fretboard hardly at all. the fret ends were nicely manicured. the tuners were easy to turn and nut was filed and dressed with great care. the finish is top notch, the controls felt solid and the pickups i thought id have to replace since they were "hot", but i quickly found i could get all the tones i wanted out of them JUST FINE!! Truly a remarkable guitar. Ive had about 15 guitars in the past 3 years from trading around and always scoffed at american made fenders as being pretentious and too expensive. i used to say "the mexican standards are just as good for 1/3rd of the price!" WRONG. I didn't know what i was missing out on, clearly! Highly recommend this guitar and sweetwater for their phenomenal customer service.... and candy.

I would not change a thing

I was looking for a guitar that would give me a classic sound for under $1000. Brian in the sales department help me find the perfect guitar. It has the sound that I was looking for and I get a lot of compliments on the color. Fender did a great job on this guitar. Purchasing from Sweetwater gives me the confidence that if I do have an issue they will be there after the sale. I have worked with Brian for a while now, not only does he know guitars, but he is what customer service should be.

The only

I got this guitar, in this color, today. I always get excited about a new guitar when I'm first playing it. And I have a number of really good ones which I have bought from Sweetwater. But there's something different about a Tele, especially for country, blues and jazz. The first thing I did with my new one was to add riffs at the front and the back of a country-sounding jingle I had just written and recorded (less the intro and outro riffs). I simply could not get the tone I was looking for, from any of my other guitars -- but I got it, spot-on, right out of the box with this one.Take a look at what some of the more experienced and versatile players say about this model. I know what I like, but I can't compare this to other instruments after years of experience of playing the way others can. I'm just finishing year one after a decades-long break.I haven't found anything wrong with this instrument -- other than the inevitable sorry that I didn't have this years ago. It might have prompted me to pick the guitar up again that much sooner.

A very nice Telecaster

It was a toss up between this one or the Baja Tele and after careful and thorough review the American Special won! I like being able to access the Truss rod if i need to without having to unbolt the neck or raise the pickguard and the fact for a few dollars more you can get an American made Telecaster. Im glad i chose this one. It plays like a dream! Being a former touring musician and guitar tech i did have to lower the action but i didnt have to adjust the truss rod to get where i wanted. This is a really nice guitar for sure! Also i would like to add i am a master guitar shipper having shipped many guitars and Sweetwater ships guitars like i do, meaning, they package them as if they were headed to the Moon! Good job Sweetwater!
