Trust Evans for Heads That Rock!

The Evans Hydraulic Glass tom drumhead features two plies sandwiching a thin layer of oil, giving the head an especially fat, deep, and short sound - made famous by early-70s rock. The oil decreases sustain, while enhancing attack and low end. Plus, Evans Hydraulic Glass drumheads are famously easy to tune, so they're a great choice for troublesome drums - or beginning players wanting instant access to great sound.

Evans Drumheads has been in the music industry for more than 40 years, and pioneered the original plastic drum head in 1956. These weatherproof heads changed the drum world forever. Evans' state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Farmingdale, NY produces heads that are unparalleled in consistency, durability, and sound quality. Evans is looking to the present and future needs of drummers worldwide.

Evans Hydraulic Glass Drumhead Features:
  • Size: 14"
  • 2-ply head, sandwiching a thin layer of oil

Great head

I use this as a snare resonant underneath an ST dey batter head, and its the best snare sound i've ever been able to achieve. All attack, instant decay, and its the most powerful and brutal sound that i need for metal.

Best Clear Snare Head

I've had to learn how to be a drum tech due to my new position as worship director at our church. I gravitated towards the hydraulics due to their claim to be easy to tune and premuffled.

I'm using the uncoated Glass 14" head on a snare (blasphemy, I know), and it is so good. It still has overtones so as not to be completely dead, but through the mics the extra harmonics give our Gretsch Renown snare a nice cut that only sustains for a quick moment. If you've ever wanted to try a clear batter on your snare, this is the way to go so as to not drown in all that extra ring.

Sounds great in every tuning. Rock solid. Loud and clear.

My favorite heads.

Deep punchy sound. Very little sustain. No filler all killer. Just buy them. They're worth it.

Shake hands with BEEF!!!

I purchased a tube-lug Black Beauty Snare over two years ago and it came with the Ludwig Medium coated batter which is really the equivalent of a Remo Diplomat 7 mil thickness. Cute, but not beefy enough. So, I replaced it with the standard Remo Ambassador coated and noticed an increase in body to the tone.
My tastes have changed in snare drum sound these passed few years and I really love a fatter, lower-pitched batter head. I went from my C# pitch down to B and fell in love with the sheer bigness in sound this provided. The bottom head remains at F just above Middle-C. I don't really like sticking on muffling devices to reduce the over-ring of the batter. So, I tried the Evans Hydraulic Glass and fell in love with the BEEF!
I know, I know; it isn't coated, but I understand Evans now has coated versions of these heads, including coated color versions! In the meantime, I'm just loving the deeper, reduced ring and solid feel of this head. As always, Evans heads tune up easily; even long before the Level 360 collar came into production. My snare is now fatter than a tub of lard, and I had a blast tonight playing along to the Beatles Let It Be and Don't Let Me Down in honor of Ringo's birthday! Cheers!

Evans Hydraulic

OK I bought my first brand new drum kit a month or so ago. Of course the factory heads had to go. The store I purcheased drums from didn't have a great selection of heads on hand and I let the fellow talk me into these about two weeks after drum purchase. Beleve they are not near as "ugly" as they appear in these pictures. You can't see any oil like it appears in these pics just looks like a few flat air bubbles. I was needing to do a lot of recording so I wanted a lot less sustain and not way to much resonance. These did the trick yet still leave a nice tone on my new Mapex Mars "birch"kit. The recordings sound graet for an entry level kit.
You can search reviews and find people who swear they'll never use anything else so don't be a fraid to give these a try if you do a lot of recording or just need to tone things down. And from what a hear they last a good deal longer than the average skins. Good luck!!
