Hot rails liberator loaded pick guard

I was building a Frankencaster from components and decided to select the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails Liberator as a unified solution for the electrical portion of my project. I am thoroughly satisfied with my decision, as the loaded pick guard dropped right into place. I chose the Hot Rails pickup because I was looking for high output, which matches my playing style. These pickups have a voice of their own, and do not expect them to sound just like a Strat, just louder. The tone is warmer, a lot warmer. I ultimately rolled the low end and mid down on my amp and boosted the high end to get the tone I wanted. Clean tones are well defined, but with maybe a little less definition to the low strings (5&6) than I like. The high notes, all the way up to the top fret, just blast out of this thing. You will be heard when playing this piece. All in all, I love this thing...very satisfied. The Liberator setup makes it easy to change pickups, too, no soldering. One more note. The tone controls are wired to the neck and middle pickups, leaving the bridge pickup in full scream mode. Somebody told me this is how Strats are wired, but I plan to change the mid tone control to the bridge pickup.

Perfect for Me

I don't usually do reviews, but wow what a perfect fit for my style of playing. I play anything from Jazz to heavy Rock. Was easy to install. I replaced a set of noiseless fender single coils with these. The single coils sounded very clear and clean, perfect for clean tones and a bit of overdrive. For my style of playing I need more bite and edge. These pickups are perfect. If I need less all I have to do his roll back the volume. I like to know that I can play either clean tones or heavy tones when I need to These still have the Strat sound but with the punch and power of a humbucker.

Strat Monster!

After 2 prior sets of "loaded' pickguards, I decided to try Duncans. Sets with an s/s/h arrangement left gaps in the sound mix that just didn't suit me and anything with 3 singles sounded too thin. All I wanted was some power that could be dialed back if necessary without dying out at the same time. Besides, I don't solder that well and wanted easy installation. Kenny pointed these out to me right away and I am not disappointed! They make the new EVH 20w 16 ohm speaker I got here and loaded in my 12" cab explode. "Unchained" is the only word to describe these pups!

The Ultimate Pre-Loaded Pickguard !!

I'm a Les Paul player, and I purchased this set-up to drop into a strat that I built from very carefully selected parts, so I could have a locking tremolo without the expense of purchasing the LP Access or Alex Liefson Model, as I would never cut up one of my existing LP's to mount a locking trem. It was definitely the right choice for me !! The sound from each pick-up is full, tight and focused (in a swamp ash body) with no hum or noise. This is definitely a set-up geared toward classic rock, hard rock and classic metal but also produces some of the nicest clean tones I've ever heard. Installation was quick and easy with the liberator system, and Sweetwater delivered in record time as always. For nu-metal, this set-up probably won't get you there, but it is definitely versatile enough to handle most types of music.

Sounding good!

Good stuff! Seymour Duncan delivers! Good half single coil half humbucker sound. Get some better single coil sounds in the "in-between" switch positions. Couple of issues (hence the 4.5 rating) the pick guard didn't quite fit exactly and the provided output jack wouldn't fit in the cavity. So had to replace that with a smaller single conductor switchcraft jack I had sitting around. Also the switch side of pickgaurd has to be kept away from the side of the body otherwise it grounds out/knocks out the sound. The middle pickup was disconnected on arrival so I fixed that. So now it's just a matter of tweaking my sounds to fit the new pickups. Better and quieter than the pickups that were in it (even though they weren't too bad for stock Squire pickups ...ya..that's right I put this in a squire beater/project guitar!) Looking forward to making this thing sing! Sweetwater=the best service, shipping and customer care!
