    Great place to start

I bought a V-Compact Kit with this module and I am surprised with the versatility and options on such a simple module. There are some great acoustic drum sounds here, Maple, Birch, and Brass snares, toms, etc. But where this unit really shines is in the tuning and muffling functions which takes the original samples and really allows you to improve upon the sounds and find your own style. I am not a "drummer" but I have worked with software drums and the samples here may not be as great as Addictive Drums or Steven Slate samples - but they are definitely very usable and flexible.

    A much improved entry-level module

Having owned a TD-3 before, I have to say that the new TD-4 is miles beyond Roland's previous entry-level module. Sound quality is excellent, especially the acoustic sets. Dynamic range is vastly improved which results in much less "machine gunning" and greater realism. If you're looking to get started with electronic drums, this is the brain to get.
