Zoom TAC-2R Thunderbolt Audio Interface at a Glance:
  • Recording has never been easier
  • High-end processing delivers better sound
  • Blazing-fast performance with Thunderbolt
Recording has never been easier

The Zoom TAC-2R Thunderbolt interface is simple to use, and Sweetwater has been impressed by the high sound quality. A pair of XLR/TRS combo jacks let you hook up mics, instruments, or line signals in seconds. A convenient pair of TRS jacks in the back let you hook up your powered monitors in a flash. Best of all, the TAC-2R uses high-end Burr Brown converters for stellar sound.

High-end processing delivers better sound

The power and speed of Thunderbolt is sure to change the face of audio recording. The TAC-2R not only records, but it also performs four times upsampling of your signal during the analog-to-digital and the digital-to-analog conversion. So, when the sampling rate is set to 44.1kHz, the TAC-2R is processing the signal at 176.4kHz, which helps minimize aliasing noise and increases clarity. In other words, your audio will sound amazing.

Blazing-fast performance with Thunderbolt

Apple's Thunderbolt connectivity has opened up a world of professional recording possibilities. Thunderbolt is five times faster than USB 3.0 and up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0 and FireWire 800. This gives you the speed to record and monitor with virtually no latency. In fact, Thunderbolt is so fast, it isn't bothered by computer jitter, so you don't need a master clock. No more hunting for an extra power outlet because Thunderbolt is bus powered from your computer. It even gets enough juice to provide your mics with phantom power. Super fast, super stable, and bus powered - that's Thunderbolt!

Zoom TAC-2R Thunderbolt Audio Interface Features:
  • 2-in, 2-out Thunderbolt audio interface

A must have for T-Bolt equipped Macs

Giving five stars based on no latency, clean sound, portability, and that no wall wort is needed. Needed a smaller interface coming from an eight channel PreSonus that was overkill for me. Small, easy to use, and I don't have to do anything to tweak the latency in Logic. Just plug and play. Using a MacBook Pro.

Right On!

I bought a Mac Book Pro quad core and started looking for a live use interface that wasn't usb and has MIDI as many don't. When this arrived I loved it. Super compact interface WITH the thunderbolt cable included. Built solid and nice simple layout. Software was easy and setup as well. Logic Pro X runs it perfect. Never a glitch and the no detectable latency at all. The sound is big and wide, very warm. No wall wart needed plugs right in to the thunderbolt port and go. Look no further.

Great Deal, Great Sound

The TAC-2R is an excellent audio interface. I read a couple of reviews on it and was intrigued by its specs and price. Now I have had it for over a few months, used it in both studio and live situations, and it has worked flawlessly. I use a MacBook Pro with 10.9.5, Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton and use multiple instances of Omnisphere 2, NI Komplete, Ivory, Arturia, Uhe Zebra, Synthmaster 2.7. Also, 1.2 rack space is convenient as I also use it for field recording as part of a class I teach at COSMOS UCI. Clean, easy to use, MixEFX software a plus, built very solid. Little rails are nice as you could put undo pressure on knobs and mic inputs if not there. Highly recommend checking this out especially at this price point.

Zoom TAC-2R

After much hair tearing out, not being able to find drivers after upgrading my OS to Maverick, for my old USB 2 audio interface, ... AND... trying a new Firewire interface that was noisy.. I decided to go with Thunderbolt Tech. I received the unit in perfect shape (Sweetwater is great that way) and the building anxiety for the duration of the wait (new, NEW gear is like that... "will it work or am I going to have to upgrade all my plug-ins or what??) was completely washed away as I set it up. After going through the whole processes of un-plugging my old unit... I plugged in the audio cables and Thunderbolt cable (simple ...) downloaded the drivers from Zoom (just to make sure they were up to date) turned on my 'puter and waited. The screen came up and off I went to ProTools. I opened a session that was constantly crashing ... and low and behold... just good old "everything is as it should be. Now , that's what I like, invisibility in the work flow.... sitting over in my rack (I put it on a rack shelf with double sided tape) doing the job it was designed for with NO interruption of workflow!! Now I can be creative again without having to "tech out" problems........ It might be an illusion but I think my mixes are clearer, more stable sounding then before.... I highly recommend The Zoom TAC-2R, great new tech, easy to take low price and ease of setup.
