Retro Vibe-O-metric is high

The retro vibe-O-metric of this mic is high. The Mix review rated it as slightly better sounding than a new AKG C12VR, which is what grabbed my attention. It is very present which makes it good for vocals that need to punch through a thick mix. The down side is that it needs a good de-esser and some eq to tailor it to each vocalist. I have used the Waves Renaissance plugins with good success. (FYI, currently using a Grace 101 pre for extreme clarity but plan to try a Great River ME-1NV or a Vintech X73 to move further into the retro sonics.)

Quite good

I have found the studio projects T3 to work well with vocals but I have not been as impressed with it on acoustic guitar. With certain vocals, the mic really does have a rich high end tube sound. I'm sure it probably sounds good with some instruments but it certainly is not my first choice for acoustic guitar.

Pleasant Surprise

This is a great all-around mic. I primarily use it for vocals, but it's polar patterns and generally bright character lend it some versatility in the studio. As a vocal mic it really works great on certain vocalists and certain types of music. Sometimes it's just too bright and present, and it might be best to use something else. Other times bright and present is what you want. So, like all things, it's just a matter of what sounds best.
