An Analog Classic with Modern Mojo

NOTE: This plug-in requires an eLicenser or iLok (not included) for authorization.

The XILS-lab Syn'X soft synth gives you the sound of a legendary analog synthesizer keyboard along with cool performance options unheard of in the pre-MIDI world. From its pitch/mod joystick to its signature filter and FM sounds, Syn'X perfectly re-creates the sound and functionality of the Elka Synthex, one of the last analog synthesizers of its age. In addition to its polyphonic, multi-oscillator engine and meticulously modeled signal path, Syn'X delivers XILS-lab's unique modulation functions, including Chaox and Rhythm LFO as well as random polyphony, allowing you to create jaw dropping sounds that morph and change in an infinite variety of ways.

A classic analog synthesizer keyboard reborn for your DAW

While the Elka Synthex may not have been a household name, this early digitally regulated synth was one of the first truly stable analog keyboard to hit the market. It also offered a ton of bang for the buck, and artists such as Asia and Stevie Wonder were quick to adopt the highly portable 8-voice synth. Part of what make the inspiration for the Syn'X virtual synth so cool was its combination of the CEM3396 chip filter, which was central to the Oberheim Matrix line, and FM technology based on Yamaha keyboard circuitry of the time. XILS-lab put all of this together, along with a handful of improvements and some truly cool extras, when they created Syn'X. Stack up massive sounds with eight layers each with two 4-waveform oscillators, an ADSR envelope with MIDI-syncable delay, four LFOs, and a set of cool onboard effects. No synth nut could pass up this kind of tone-shaping power.

Unique modulation modes unlock extra sound-shaping power

One of the biggest things that sets one synthesizer apart from another is the extent of its modulation capability, and XILS-lab Syn'X certainly brings some fresh ideas to the table. Two of its LFO modes, for example, go far beyond the classic Synthex hardware. First up, there's the Chaox LFO. This dual-axis LFO resembles an X-Y pad, with 132 assignable destinations for either axis. While you certainly can assign a hardware controller to the parameters, the Chaox also includes four LFO shapes that can automatically trace geometric shapes on the virtual X-Y pad, allowing you to create very unique modulation effects. At the same time, there's the sophisticated Rhythm LFO, which allows you to modulate five different parameters (from the same 132 destinations as the Chaox) at various intervals within the LFO cycle. The results you can achieve are staggering!

Guitar Mode adds playing options for guitarists and drummers

One of the things Sweetwater songwriters and synth nuts love about the Syn'X virtual instrument is its guitar mode. In addition to two MIDI keyboards (upper and lower), which both include independent MIDI channels, split points, and arpeggiation, Syn'X includes Guitar Mode. Originally intended for guitar synth players, Guitar Mode lets you assign two voices each to six different MIDI channels. That lets you play different instruments with each string of a typical guitar synth. It also lets you set up synth drum kits, which you can comfortably use for live performance. And that's not all - when you combine the Circular and Random modes with independently tuned oscillators, you can create extremely cool patches morph and evolve on their own an you play.

XILS-lab Syn'X Synthesizer Virtual Instrument Features:
  • A 16-voice virtual synthesizer based on the classic Elka Synthex
  • Each of the 8 layers includes 2 oscillators with 4 waveforms, Ring Modulation, and Pulse-width Modulation
