The Way Huge Swollen Pickle is one of the most versatile fuzz pedals I own. With just a bit of tweaking, I can go from I can go from subtle vintage style to massive, heavy fuzz. It's a staple of my pedalboard, and it will remain there for years to come.
Ace of Spades
I ordered this pedal on a whim and it turned out to be a fantastic impulse buy. The Pickle can cover Muff to Fuzz Face and all points in between, as well as coaxing it's own unique sonic signatures. As someone who primarily plays detuned, doomy blues I can confirm this pedal has an adequate gain range. I'm a minamalist, so I only have room for one fuzz and this one more than fits the bill.
Fat Fatty McFat Fat!
Spent many years and most of my spare change on fuzz pedals in the search for perfection. Believe none of what you read: Fuzz is quite the acquired and personal taste. But for the distinguished ear and perhaps lighter wallet, the Pickle is the boss! It allows me to dial-in scooped Bush fuzz to full-out J Mascis armageddon. From the Stones to Smashing Pumpkins, I have ended my search with George Tripp's proud growler.
Pros - The ability to tweak your tone is unsurpassed with the Swollen Pickle. Most boutique fuzz pedals are one trick ponies. No range! The Pickle knobs for input, output, scoop, tone, and crunch are all vastly dynamic dials. In addition, internal dials - voice and clip - allow you to modify tone and breakup even more. Lots and lots of headroom. Quality quality quality tone. No joke!
Cons - If you live for zero noise pedals, this may be a tough sell. The pedal shocked me at first as I bench tested the line signal. It is the loudest pedal in my chain before I strike a single note. I will happily trade the additional hiss for the tone. Don't get me wrong, playing style at any level of professionalism required control over this element, but nothing great ever came from something timid.
If you crave REAL TONE, and especially if you're not intimidated by P90s, then you MUST have this pedal in your arsenal. Rich Robinson and Jon Auer would be proud, but Neil Young's minis may also be a little jealous...
The best Fuzz pedal or box eve, man!
I owned 1 0f these and I was mostly playing metal at this time. And it gave it a huge sound. Than I started to play punk again and it was awesome. It is best with stuff like Jimi Hendrix, and that sort. It is even better than any Fuzz Box I ever owned. It gave me the power to reinvent sounds that are mind blowing with the Wah Wah added! Forget about buying some pedal fuzz box from yesteryear and this is where it,s at cat!
Great fuzz. Incredibly malleable tone and built very well. The pots are sensitive and provide a broad range of tones with each turn. My only gripe is that the two internal pots (for filter and scoop) aren't on the outside. Well worth the price tag. Replaced a few more expensive pedals on my board.
This pedal lives up top its name - Way Huge , Swollen tones and fuzz! There is a lot of opportunity for creating your own distinctive sound. A great addition to anybody's board.
