Stunning power

The Mesa/Boogie Bass Strategy Eight:88 is about power - tube power (and lots of it). With eight KT88s under the hood, the Bass Strategy Eight:88 generates 465 watts of stunning, stadium-filling volume. And remember, these are tube watts - they're much louder than equivalent solid-state watts. Impressive, yes, but the Bass Strategy Eight:88 is also a world-class tone monster.

Monster tone

Mesa/Boogie's Bass Strategy Eight:88 head not only serves up amazing bass tone, but it also gives you the tools to shape it to achieve your signature sound. This head has three 12AX7s in its wheelhouse, along with massive tone-shaping mojo. You get a gain control, active bass, passive mids, active treble, a 5-position active mid-voicing switch, and, of course, a master volume. But there's much more, including a footswitchable, assignable, or bypassable 9-band graphic EQ. No wonder it's called the Bass Strategy.

Amazing versatility

The Mesa/Boogie Bass Strategy Eight:88 is one of the most versatile bass heads we've seen. Take its footswitchable solo level control, for instance. With this nifty feature, you can nail the perfect volume for your solo with a tap of your foot. Speaking of your foot, the Bass Strategy 5-button footswitch, a highly recommended option, sports buttons laid out ergonomically, in two rows. And to prove Mesa has their thinking caps on, there's even a second tuner-out jack on the footswitch! There's more, including fixed bias for consistent maintenance-free performance, a balanced XLR line-out, and multi-impedance speakON-1/4" combo outputs. But you really must experience the Bass Strategy Eight:88 for yourself. Get a taste of what playing through a world-class bass amp feels like. It's addictive.

A tube bass amp flamethrower

I use this amp to replace an old SVT I was retiring. Every gig I am more amazed by this amp. I play every size of venue and with the power selector switch youcan fit the amp to the gig. Pick whatever cabinet configuration you need and you'redone. Numerous ways to EQ if you must. It still weighs a little, way less thanthe SVT, but the 8 KT88 power tubes are well worth the price/weight. As mentioned in another review the foot switch makes it even better. Thanks to Mesa/Boogie and Sweetwater as usual. Great work helping me with the purchase.

Killed my 2600 solid state

As a bass player I consider headroom when I think of the amp I want to purchase. Not all of us touring artists play huge arenas or even small outdoor venues every show. The house system is not always going to cover you. Clipping is a major issue with the tuning I use as anyone knows that plays low F#... For reference My old rig was powered by 2 matrix SS amps totaling 2600w of power. It did ok on most days..... Now as far as the Mesa Boogie eight:88 I honestly don't know how I ever performed live without it! I get massive volume and ZERO clipping!!! The sounds you can get out of this amp are amazing and clear. I would suggest buying the foot switch as well to take advantage of the Awesome EQ and other features. I did run into one problem with the amp. The power switch was broken on the unit when it arrived. I called mesa and bam within minutes they said ok we are sending a replacement set. 2 days later I installed my new switches Super easy plug and play....Customer service at sweetwater was BEYOND excellent they are still keeping in touch and this amp now has some road time on it.....
