    Eric Johnson RW Strat

Out of the case, this guitar is very well made! The tone of this guitar is
beyond good. after setting the action to my preferred height, and replacing the 5 stock springs with Raw Vintage springs, it opened up with more tone than any Stratocaster I have owned. The pick ups on this guitar are very strong, and set up with the right pedals and amp
bloom with Stratocaster goodness! I would highly recommend this guitar. The finish is very beautiful and the staggered string tuners are spot on! even if your not a big fan of Eric Johnson, this guitar will make any type of music sound really good. I own 6 custom shop Stratocasters, and have played many vintage Strats, this one blows them all away! Run don't walk, and get one of these guitars.

    Worth it

This guitar is one of the nicest Strat's I've yet to play. The detail and quality is glorious. It feels like a true NOS vintage guitar made with the highest quality materials. The nitro paint is beautiful. The quarter sawed neck has a great strong feel and has the extra added beauty of the white binding. 12"radius make string bends easier and action nice and low. Played great out of the case, I still may have a pro setup though. I find myself staring at this guitar a lot, the Dakota Red paint reminds me of a classic car from the 50's. I've bought and sold many Strat's, this one is a keeper. The extra goodies in the case are very cool as well. Thank you Sweetwater and thank you Eric Johnson/Fender

    The best Strat I own

I already have 1956, 1958 and 1964 r/w Strats but I worry about taking them out of the house as the climate here is often so dry (like 8% r.h. at times) and it isn't unusual to have 35 degree temperature swings in a day. I do have a 90 Clapton Strat but with my smaller hands I find the neck shape awkward and tiring after awhile.

Stopped by the local guitar store and played some Fender Custom Shop Strats but then I came across several E.J. Strats. While the specs say that the E.J. model has a 'soft V' neck profile it is softer than the Clapton and my left hand fit the neck well. The frets are fabulous on the r/w neck, and while I would have preferred to have the neck unbound the white binding wasn't a deal breaker. Very resonant body and neck. The special pickups are voiced quite well and perform through a variety of amps (Fender, Mesa, Fractal Axe), and having the bridge pickup wired to the tone control is quite useful.

The bottom line is that I play this guitar quite a bit (I have other vintage Fender, Gibson, and Gretsch guitars) because I enjoy it so much, and am looking to buy another with the maple neck. Yes, the nitrocellulose finish will eventually show some weather-related wear but I believe it contributes to the great resonant tone you get.
